We are big supporters of family life and have made our vacation rental as family-friendly as possible. There are fun-filled activities here for young and old, indoors and out, active and quiet from swimming or fishing in the lake to chilling in the media room with a movie or in the library with a good book. We lived in this house until our kids left the nest. We now live in a smaller house next door. It's a Little bit of heaven! We hope you'll choose Heron Lodge for your next vacation.
Kathryn Little purchased this house in 1999
Lakefront, beautiful, quiet, able to swim and fish, and for canoeing/kayaking/boating in the lake in the summer, an hour from Seattle/Tacoma or SeaTac airport.
This is the first year that Mom and Dad have offered Heron Lodge as a vacation rental. They bought another (smaller) house on the lake and have kept this one to use for family and friends...and now for others, too. We have had so much fun here. We know you will, too. It's comfortable, quiet, and inviting. This is a kid-friendly place. You'll be happy to have chosen Heron Lodge as a place for your vacation with family, or for a quiet retreat. Sincerely, George, Tony, Mike, Will and Liz
Thank you Kathy for the use of your beautiful home!
We drove more than 1500 miles thru snow, fog and rain to arrive much later than we had expected. As you had stated, you left the lights on for us! Thank you!
Your home was perfect for what we came for. Our son is active duty military and was unable to come home for Thanksgiving, so we came to him. We invited several of his shipmates to your home for a Thanksgiving meal. Your home was plenty big enough to hold all of them. After enjoying a traditional turkey dinner with all of the fixings, they all played charades and apples to apples. It was so much fun to watch them be able to unwind and have some downtime. This would not have been possible without the use of your home! With the kitchen having a double oven and open floor plan, it was easy to prepare a large meal and serve so many guests!
The location of the home was easy for everyone to find, is close to the base and is easy to get to Silverdale, Bremerton and Poulsbo!
Thank you for your hospitality and for opening your home for others to use!
We will definitely be back!
The Weide Family!
I am an active duty military service member and I needed somewhere for my family and a few guests to stay for the weekend while we celebrated my daughter's christening back home in Bremerton, WA. We had no idea what a treat were in for at Heron Lodge! What an amazing home for a celebration! The view of the lake is spectacular and Larry (the owner) came by to say hello the night we arrived. The home contained everything we needed for the celebration (including tables, chairs, a BBQ grill and a rice cooker!). There were plenty of seats for our guests at the celebration and a welcome book that contains all the information you will need about the local area. All of our guests complimented us on our choice in Heron Lodge. We will definitely be back for future family gatherings! Huge THANK YOU to the home owners who made our little celebration an event to remember!
Our family rented the Heron Lodge for our Christmas Celebration and this facility exceeded our expectations. The owners decorated beautifully for Christmas with evergreens and lights and even put up a tree.
They were very kind and generous. On Christmas Eve, they brought over fresh baked cookies. There was a forecast of snow, so they brought over sleds, and gave some good tips of where to park so we could get out without any trouble and a name of a friend with snow equipment in case we got into some trouble.
The Lodge is large enough and spread out enough that it never felt crowded, even when there were 20 of us there.
I highly recommend this home for your next vacation rental.
You won't find the same hospitality anywhere else.
If you are looking for a special place to gather with family and friends, Heron Lodge is it! When we arrived at the lodge and descended the wooded driveway we were greeted by rays of sunlight dancing on Wildcat Lake – the view was amazing! The lawn leading to the dock was green and lush with a hammock and chairs tucked into little coves for relaxing and enjoying the quiet. I was pleased to see that the walk to the dock was easily accessible and required no stairs or a steep hill to navigate.
The lodge itself is beautiful. The large glass windows provide lake views from the living room, dining room and kitchen. There was ample room for our family of eight who traveled from Pennsylvania, North Carolina and California. One of my favorite features was the separation of the media room from the living room providing options for those who enjoy watching tv and movies and those who prefer a more quiet environment. The kitchen was fantastic. Absolutely every type of utensil, pot, pan, and dish is available. I especially enjoyed the breakfast bar with 5 stools that opened to the living room allowing everyone to gather for coffee and breakfast in the morning while enjoying the view.
The guys had a great time fishing from the dock and from the rowboat that is provided by the owners. Early one morning we saw a bald eagle swoop down from the sky and pluck a fish from the lake! We kayaked every day and many of us spent hours swimming in the lake using the tubes and other water toys found in the garage. Because there are motorboat restrictions, the lake is always very quiet and safe. Many days we felt as though we had the entire lake to ourselves! We barbecued many evenings while watching the sun set on the lake.
The location of the lodge is perfect. We were able to utilize the ferry system to take day trips to Victoria British Columbia as well as Seattle. We also ventured to local beaches as well as Bainbridge Island – a lovely area with coffee shops, unique stores and restaurants on the water.
What made our vacation truly special are the owners of the lodge, Kathy and Larry. They are extremely generous, kind and warm people who go to great lengths to make certain your time at the lodge is perfect. We all had a wonderful stay. Heron Lodge is most definitely a magical place!
Heron Lodge was the perfect place for our vacation. An absolutely beautiful property on Wildcat Lake with amazing views of the lake from the great room, the master bedroom AND the kitchen sink! This place was so well appointed, it met all the needs of our mini family reunion. We hadn't seen my brother & his family in 8 years so it was a very special time. My daughter flew in from VA, we came from FL, and the WA relatives joined in. My nephew, his wife, and their two little ones, age 3 yr and 10 mos, were able to stay for a long weekend, too, allowing us to get to know them better. The 3 yr old especially loved kayaking with his dad (Heron Lodge has water safety jackets for all ages).
My daughter enjoyed cooking in this huge kitchen with every gadget imaginable (like three types of coffee makers, meat thermometers, and gourmet cookware). My husband put the new gas grill on the deck to good use when 15 people came for dinner on Sunday. The owners even had folding tables and chairs to accomodate a crowd AND had left a large downstairs room empty for just such an occasion. They live right next door and were available immediately if any question arose.
Groceries were not a problem as there were several grocery stores in nearby Silverdale. Check the house first, though to see what you need. There were many condiments, spices, napkins, foil, etc in the well stocked kitchen.
Most of our time was spent enjoying family, but we did take one day to whale watch in Port Townsend, a charming Victorian port with an old time boat chandlery and lots of unique restaurants and shops. The mother and baby humpback whales we saw made it well worthwhile.
Silverdale also has some great restaurants - Middle Eastern, Korean, all sorts of goodies - along with any store you could need. We did make an almost daily trip into town.
If you are looking for a lovely spacious home for a family vacation, a retreat, or large group occasion, Heron Lodge fits the bill. It was the perfect place for our family get together. It was hard to leave - not just because we enjoyed our family time, but also because Heron Lodge is such a beautiful serene home away from home.
This wonderful home was perfect for our yearly family reunion. We were four families in the house and the cabin and it was an amazing week. The facility was very quiet and each group could be in different rooms playing a game or watching a movie or just chatting. Or we could all be together on the lawn, the deck, the living room. And the recreation possibilities were many - the game garage, the media room, the boats, the lake - it was all available. On a rainy day we answered the door to find a big box of Legos for the younger kids that Kathy had left for us. Saved our day! Our fireworks show was such fun and our extended family get-together was perfect in this roomy house. Thank you, Littles, for your gracious hospitality!
