Lost River Cabin Rental Photos and Description

2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, sleeps 5 with sofa bed

The Wild and Wonderful mountains of West Virginia are the perfect vacation getaway for this property. Only two hours drive from Washington D.C., (3 hours Baltimore, 3 1/2 hours Richmond, 5 hours Philadelphia) this private cabin is secluded in the woods and offers you the pristine beauty of the Shenandoah Mountains. Near the George Washington National Forest and Lost River State Park, there are a wide range of recreational activities: swimming, horseback riding, hiking, antiquing, fishing, canoeing, archery, as well as fine dining or simple, country eating. During the winter months, skiing is convenient. Lots to choose from or just relax and enjoy a sweet cabin in the woods.

Adventures Abound: From Washingtonian Magazine May 2006 - : 'The Lost River Valley of West Virginia has been found.' 'Tucked between two mountain ridges, the valley, a couple of hours from Washington, is drawing more weekenders. The lure is rugged woodland scenery, tumbling mountain streams, and outdoor fun - hiking, fishing, biking, canoeing, swimming, rafting, climbing, horseback riding.' You'll have your choice of the Lost River State Park, where the Hidden Trails Stables is located for horseback riding, archery, outdoor pool, tennis and a restaurant. Also nearby is the Trout Pond Recreation Area at the George Washington National Forest, with fishing, a gentle lake with a beach for swimming, lovely light walking or more serious hiking.

Serenity: The moment you enter our cabin retreat, you'll be struck by the scent of fresh pine. The cabin is inlaid from floor to ceiling with fresh pine wood and the sweet, woodsy, smell will be with you throughout your stay. It is an authentic country cabin which has been modernized, by bumping out a bay window and building a sun room, so there's lots of light to be had and includes all of the modern amenities, with A/C. You'll have both the rural mountain feel and all of the conveniences from home. Perfect for a romantic getaway or kids will love our back yard where they can knock around a soccer ball. This is a back to nature locale for a couple or a family with children.

Local Restaurants and Shops: While we are a getaway, there are still local businesses to visit during your time in Lost River. The Guest House at Lost River has fine dining with a 40 seat restaurant and bar operating on weekends throughout the year. Lost River General Store offers crafts, lunch and ice cream for tourists on the shopping prowl. Lost River Grill serves breakfast, lunch and dinner throughout the year, as well as an evening bar with Karaoke on weekends. South End Grocery will offer any of your other household needs.

Awesome Cabin!!! You will NOT regret renting it!!

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I chose this cabin for last minute getaway! Making the reservation was easy as pie and Gordon, the owner, is very kind and responsive. The cabin itself is extremely cute – it looks much better in person than the pictures suggest!! We loved the cabin so much we barely left!! The couch is extremely comfortable and once you sit on it, you don’t want to get up! There is a fireplace in the den which when lit just added to the cabin feel! I appreciated the attention to detail in regards to the cabin’s decorations!! There are board games, puzzles and lots of DVD’s! The cabin has internet and we brought our laptop which we connected to the TV and we were able to stream Netflix with no problem! I was also very happy that there was a charcoal grill on site! We spent a lot of time outside enjoying the fresh air and grilling! My dogs enjoyed exploring the land around the cabin as well! I would without a doubt recommend this cabin to anyone and everyone, and in fact I have already recommended it to friends and co-workers!

Beautiful and peaceful Fall getaway!

  • 5 of 5
This cabin is very cozy and comfortable. It's very clean and has everything you need for a great vacation. The woods and mountains surrounding the cabin are very peaceful and a great place for morning walks with the dog. The hiking trails at Lost River State Park, just down the road, are well marked and provide beautiful vistas of the surrounding mountains and beautiful foliage. This is a great escape in a great area and reserving it was fast and easy.

5 Stars Cabin Getaway :)

  • 5 of 5
Cabin Sweet Cabin was a very relaxing place! I went with my mother and two sisters to have a girl getaway and we surely enjoyed ourselves. The mountains and green trees surround the cabin which made us all in awe to witness such beauty!! The cabin is very well kept and very clean. We loved the sunroom in which we relaxed and read books. We took advantage of the outdoor grill and table. There are so many different outdoor activities to participate in. Our favorites were the lake and horseback ridding. I would highly recommend!

Cabin Sweet Cabin - How Sweet (and Cozy) It Is

  • 5 of 5
This is our second family trip to Cabin Sweet Cabin, and we just love it. My husband and I took our two kids, and it is their favorite place. We spent our days relaxing and swimming at Trout Pond - a wonderful place to swim - and our evenings grilling and making s'mores and then playing board games in the sun room. The cabin is super cozy and has good lighting (especially the sun room) and comfy rooms. There's also a tv and dvd player with a ton of movies, and wireless if you have to check your email. The cabin is fully stocked and well appointed, so whether you want to cook, read, hike, or take lots of naps, you will be good to go! This is a great place to relax and reconnect with your family, and we hope to visit again. Lost River is a beautiful place, and Cabin Sweet Cabin is a great place to experience it. Thank you!

Great Getaway

  • 5 of 5
We think this place is simply fantastic. From the moment we arrived, you can smell the fresh pine from the wood paneling which lines the entire cabin. It's a cozy and enticing place with a great view of the mountains. This trip was a simple ride from DC and Lost River is a rural wonderland. What a great time we had at your cagbn. Thanks for your hospitality. Daniel

So disappointed in this rental!!!!!

  • 2 of 5
The cabin was overwhelmingly musty smelling. On our first trip to the grocery, we had to buy scented candles to burn while we were in the cabin. There was pet hair on the furniture, cobwebs in the corners, and clumps of dust and hair under the furniture. We felt as if we had to clean before we could relax. There were holes in the couch cushions and a big stain on the chair in the living room. Yuck! 5 light bulbs were burned out, leaving the living room area very dark. The cabin has window air condition units in bedrooms only. If it weren't for the sun room, I would have to rate it 1 star. We spent most of our time in that area enjoying the beautiful view. Sadly disappointed in the cabin!!!!

Owner's Response: Unfortunately, I believe that this posting does not represent accurately a truthful reflection of my cabin. There are 14 other reviews which are all 5 Stars and then this awful review.
I have included this note from my cleaning woman who was personally offended after reading this review:
"I am so upset about this review, I have been getting notes from other guests on how they have enjoyed their stay and how clean the cabin was....I get so excited when I get a tip and a note that they love the place.
This is a refection on me....and I don't like it at all. I put candles in the cabin for the guest for them to have a romantic time. I don't keep them there to cover up smells. You have been to the cabin enough to know that I clean it well. I call all of the guest and check on them...they never complain. When we went in the only light bulb that was burnt out was the lamp on the microwave and we put the bulb in before we left. I always turn the lights on when I clean to make sure I don't miss anything. I know there was nothing missed the day these guests arrived.
I am sorry you have to deal with this" Angela
We will be ordering new living room furniture at the end of July , which should be in place by Labor Day Weekend. Sorry for this poor review. Gordon

There is no cable or satellite television. So bring your DVD's. There is also an iHome port for iPods or iPhones. Cell phone reception is nonexistent in Lost River, but our land line works.
