Photos and Description of the Lost River vacation cabin rental
2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, sleeps 5 with sofa bed

The Wild and Wonderful mountains of West Virginia are the perfect vacation getaway for this property. Only two hours drive from Washington D.C., (3 hours Baltimore, 3 1/2 hours Richmond, 5 hours Philadelphia) this private cabin is secluded in the woods and offers you the pristine beauty of the Shenandoah Mountains. Near the George Washington National Forest and Lost River State Park, there are a wide range of recreational activities: swimming, horseback riding, hiking, antiquing, fishing, canoeing, archery, as well as fine dining or simple, country eating. During the winter months, skiing is convenient. Lots to choose from or just relax and enjoy a sweet cabin in the woods.

Adventures Abound: From Washingtonian Magazine May 2006 - : 'The Lost River Valley of West Virginia has been found.' 'Tucked between two mountain ridges, the valley, a couple of hours from Washington, is drawing more weekenders. The lure is rugged woodland scenery, tumbling mountain streams, and outdoor fun - hiking, fishing, biking, canoeing, swimming, rafting, climbing, horseback riding.' You'll have your choice of the Lost River State Park, where the Hidden Trails Stables is located for horseback riding, archery, outdoor pool, tennis and a restaurant. Also nearby is the Trout Pond Recreation Area at the George Washington National Forest, with fishing, a gentle lake with a beach for swimming, lovely light walking or more serious hiking.

Serenity: The moment you enter our cabin retreat, you'll be struck by the scent of fresh pine. The cabin is inlaid from floor to ceiling with fresh pine wood and the sweet, woodsy, smell will be with you throughout your stay. It is an authentic country cabin which has been modernized, by bumping out a bay window and building a sun room, so there's lots of light to be had and includes all of the modern amenities, with A/C. You'll have both the rural mountain feel and all of the conveniences from home. Perfect for a romantic getaway or kids will love our back yard where they can knock around a soccer ball. This is a back to nature locale for a couple or a family with children.

Local Restaurants and Shops: While we are a getaway, there are still local businesses to visit during your time in Lost River. The Guest House at Lost River has fine dining with a 40 seat restaurant and bar operating on weekends throughout the year. Lost River General Store offers crafts, lunch and ice cream for tourists on the shopping prowl. Lost River Grill serves breakfast, lunch and dinner throughout the year, as well as an evening bar with Karaoke on weekends. South End Grocery will offer any of your other household needs.

This cabin is a gem

Submitted: May 19, 2013 Stayed: May 2013
We arrived on a dark and stormy Friday evening to a attractive, clean, and dry cabin. All was as advertised. It rained much of the day Saturday, but we enjoyed a lazy morning in the very comfortable "sun room" before exploring the area. We went to the nearby Artisans Co-op (some great crafts and don't miss the funky museum downstairs) and to drinks and a delicious dinner at the very nearby Guest House. We met the Guest House masseuse at the bar there and we returned Sunday morning after checking out of the cabin for my wife to get a massage. Then a nice hike in Lost River State Park. We recommend "Cabin Sweet Cabin" and hope to return on a sunny weekend.
Owner's Response: Larry,

I'm delighted to hear that you had such a lovely weekend. Rainy days are meant for luxuriating in a sweet cabin. I'm so glad that you came to my home and I will welcome you back sun or clouds.

Thanks for your feedback,
Sincerely,
Gordon

Thanksgiving Getaway

5 of 5
Submitted: December 2, 2012 Stayed: November 2012
After a rather busy and stressful fall semester of working and teaching, my wife, son and I decided that we would escape for Thanksgiving. Gordon's cabin provided the perfect setting for our family escape. The cabin is warm and cozy. The setting is wonderfully peaceful and quiet. We enjoyed cooking country breakfasts, hiking is nearby George Washington National Forrest and making s'mores by the fireplace. The surrounding area is a great mix of backwoods solitude and Southern hospitality. I would recommend this cabin to anyone in need of a quiet retreat, or wants to do some serious hiking.
Owner's Response: Dear Leo,

I am delighted that you and your family had such a terrific holiday at my cabin. I thank you indeed for the feedback and it feels so good to me knowing that you had such a great time. Y'all are welcome back any time.

Thanks again,
Gordon

Our delightful vacation at Cabin Sweet Cabin

5 of 5
Submitted: September 10, 2012 Stayed: July 2012
We had the perfect week at Cabin Sweet Cabin! It is a delightful modern cabin with a rustic look, just what we were hoping for. We loved the quietness and restfulness the cabin provided. We curled up on the couches and read much, enjoying the coziness of the cabin, especially on the two rainy days. Several does and their fawns stopped in the yard on their way into the woods. My binoculars sat ready on the table to get a close up look at the array of birds in the trees at the edge of the yard. Following the information in the booklet left in the cabin by the owner, we found our way to a couple of enjoyable restaurants, although we liked grilling on the porch and eating in the cabin best. The area offers beautiful places to hike and swim. We hope to spend another vacation week there!
Owner's Response: Oh Hazel,
I'm so glad that you had what sounds like a marvelous week at Cabin Sweet Cabin. You can come back any time. Thanks, Gordon

Wonderful weekend

5 of 5
Submitted: May 1, 2012 Stayed: April 2012
We had a terrific weekend at this lovely cabin. It was clean and cozy with a great view, deck and sun room. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen had everything we needed (including filters for the coffee maker!), and it was so nice to have the linens etc. provided.

Had a fine time playing with my corgi-mix Mister on the grassy hillside and hiking around Lost River State Park. We had a great lunch at the General Store. On Saturday, it rained all afternoon, so we relaxed in front of the fireplace and grilled steaks for dinner.

This cabin is far better than staying at a hotel or guest house.it We will definitely be coming back.

Thank you!

Thank!
Owner's Response: I'm really pleased to hear that you had such a great time at my place. Thanks again for your feedback and positive regard. I'll be happy to have you return again and again.

Be Well,
Gordon

Summer Nights

5 of 5
Submitted: August 30, 2011 Stayed: August 2011
This was such a cozy and charming retreat for me and my Yorkie, Elvis. The warm, yet breezy, summer nights spent on the deck BBQing with a few friends from the area are now some of my fondest memories. Elvis and I absolutely loved the natural beauty of the area, especially the deer with their tiny, spotted fawns that could be seen on numerous occasions. The book selection within the cabin is top notch as well. Thank you, Gordon. Elvis and I cannot wait to return.

Owner's Response: Thanks Rick,

Your friend made the arrangements for your stay at my cabin, so I've not gotten to speak with you yet. I'm so pleased to hear that you and your doggie Elvis enjoyed my cabin so much. It is truly in a remarkable setting and nature abounds. Thanks again for your kind words.

Sincerely, Gordon
