Sherman is a small town that was twice voted 'The Best Little Small Town in Connecticut,' It has a wonderful grocery, historical Society Museum and a couple of restaurants; and, there are loads of other things to do and places to go within a short distance. New York City is a great day trip by car or train, and there are other fun day trips to cultural places, hiking trails and scenic gardens within 30 minutes to one hour. Depending on when you come, you may catch an old-fashion carnival or a antique car and airplane show, etc. Or, you can go on one of the many hiking trails in the area. So whether you want to kick back or go on an outing, it's all right nearby.
The house is on a small private lake which is just a few steps outside the back door. There are no motorboats or jet skis allowed. It is peaceful, private and serene. The lake is on top of a small mountain (called the 'Foothiills of the Berkshires') and surrounded by wilderness. The ridgeline is covered in trees, so it's kind of like a natural coliseum that curtains off the outside world, like Shangri La . There are very few houses which are hidden behind the trees. It's very dark at night which is great for stargazing. There are lots of hiking trails nearby, and and plenty of woods right outside the door. Even though the house is surrounded by greenry and forest, there are many things to do in the area (restaurants, activities, etc.), and NYC and other days trips are within an hour to an hour-and-a-half. Dia Beacon, Stormking and Innisfree are wonderful cultural excursions that offer natural vistas. Kent, CT has art galleries, shops and restaurants. And, New Milford offers bowling, movie theaters, golf, etc.
