Evening: The house is built along the creek in a small valley keeping it cool...the plaster walls and high fanned ceilings give the feeling of gentle air conditioning. We have central air. The nights are cool and for some of us, blankets feel nice. And you can see a billion stars!!
Keywords: Fifty private acres of woods, hills, meadows and stream embrace the country house with wrap around porch and grassy lawn in perfect harmony with nature. Dining 10 min away.
I grew up in this house - it was built by my grandfather and mother in 1929. It was a active dairy farm for many years. I milked cows with my parents, and had a beautiful large garden every year. The Georgia peach truck used to come by in the summers, and for days we would prepare the peaches for canning. It was a truly blessed experience that I only understood when I moved to the city.
Today I practice 'hands on health care' ,Cranio Sacral Therapy for pediatric disorders and treat adults with chronic pain, depression, anxiety, and use all as a preventive medicine modality.
I love the tranquility and beauty of this property and am sure you will also.
Anita Hale purchased this chateau / country house in 1990
It is amazingly beautiful in the nature of the country!
I love hearing nothing but the birds sing. And the wide open space - with no invasion of the beauty and tranquility..
It was a perfect property for watching spring unfold. The house is immaculate but so relaxing - our dog loved it too! Wonderfully comfortable beds and really cool at night - we slept with fresh mountain air coming trhrough the windows! We did explore 2 states - had great food near by and loved hiking in the woods.
We so enjoyed our stay in Grassy Creek! Such a nice farm and private. You can stay at the farm and relax on the front porch, or take a ride into Jefferson. We enjoyed visiting the cheese factory and all of the quaint little shops. We also got to see the world famous Frescoe paintings. Grayson Highlands Park was a short drive away, and the view of the mountains was spectacular! We also visited Boone & Valle Crucis during our stay! We plan to visit again, but next time we hope to spend more time enjoying the farm house. Loved drinking coffee on the porch while listening to a great local country & gospel radio station. Seeing deer and turkey was a treat! I'm so glad that Anita is kind enough to share her home with others to enjoy the peace and quite in such a beautiful part of NC.
Oh, my gosh....we played bocci all over the entire yard. We went innertubing down the New River (got drenched by rain, but still had fun). The grapes were ripe, and I ate a bunch! We waded around in the creek, played frisbee, chased the dog around the yard (he had the time of his life), grilled out and ate at the picnic table, read on the hammock, rocked in the rocking chairs, cranked up the awesome stereo...it was just incredible. We felt so at home. What a wonderful getaway. We hope to visit again in the near future.
Carolina Mountain House was just what I needed - a few days rest and quiet nights, breakfast on the porch to the rising sun and the sound of birds enjoying life as they do in this tranquil retreat that I will be returning to, time-and-again.
Three nights is minimum - one day I will treat myself to a month!
This farmhouse is so clean and so homey yet not stuffed out unnecessary items. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom a lingering place - better than a library.
I do recommend it for anyone just wanting to get away, write a book, paint a picture or have easy access to the Grayson Highlands just a few miles away. The landlady is very pleasant.
very relaxing vacation; lovely, authentic farmhouse. able to step out the door to walk country roads and fields. cows, deer, and rabbits glore; our dog though she was in doggie heaven. this renovated house near
