Where and who are we?: Always wanted to experience the magic City of Amsterdam? Not interested in the hectic and the chaos of the city center? Would you like to sleep nice and quiet in a tranquil village like neighborhood? Then you have found your paradise. Fleur d’ Amsterdam is situated in the Watergraafsmeer, famous for it’s restaurants ( the Kas), and magnificent estate ( Frankendael). Only 10 minutes by bike (provided) from the hart of the City. And within a walking distance from one of the nicesest Parcs of the city. This B&B is a part of a typical ‘Amsterdamse School’ architecture house, a comfortable room, ground floor level, with a private bathroom. A warm and nice family awaits you, to welcome, inform and help you on every wish you can think of. Think of our elaborate breakfast, eat eggs from our own chickens! The freshly made cappuccino is famous already.

Then take our new bikes ( for free) if you dare! And go on an adventurous trip trough this beautiful city!

Or a mint tea freshly from the garden. And with a little luck our chickens will have laid a fresh egg for you! We will have a variety off fresh brown and white buns with freshly squeezed orange's juice. The breakfast is so elaborate that you will be satisfied for hours!

Surroundings: As said we are close to the City, but not so close that we have all the trouble!! Our neighborhood, only 10 minutes away from the center, is tranquil and quiet, green and leisure some. With little shops and bars and restaurants, with a fountain in the middle of the street, and children playing in it. On our bikes or by tram ( 4 minutes away is tram nr. 9) you will be in town in a 'wink'. But you don't need to go 'downtown', you can also stay in our neighborhood and enjoy the special meals from restaurant The Kas or eat at the Pub across the street, where everybody knows your name! ( and live Jazz on Tuesdays). Or eat at 'la Teatina', where they cook 'slow food' fresh from the Italian kitchen. Or sit outside at Cafe/restaurant 1900, and stare at the fountain. The Zoo and the Tropical Museum are in walking distance as are two beautiful parks, where numerous festivals are held in the Spring, Summer and Autumn. Be welcome, enjoy Amsterdam.

We have free museum cards for you on loan, that is a truly great benefit… Read our reviews, they tell you, exactly how it feels to stay with us!

As a 50 year old art historian, I know how much this city can offer you! I live here since 33 years, and there has been not one day that I didn't love this city, with the cultural aspects, the museums, theater and dans. With the wonderful architecture, and not only the canals. The tranquility of the people, laid back and easy, open minded and harted, I wouldn't now where else to live then here!

Fleur Van Heek purchased this house in 2006

This neighborhood, with its parks and restaurant, with broad pavement, and children playing, with the fountains and the cafe's, the nice houses en sweet gardens. With day markets and fun shops, cinema and restaurants. It's simple the best, and the tram connections are perfect!

We have free museum passes for you, it will get you into the Rijksmuseum ( just opened after 10 years of closure) the Van Gogh and als Anne Frank. But we have 39 other museums to for you, the resistance and photography museum, or the Jewish museum with the synagogue from 1650, nothing ever changed there! It will save you up to 120 euro a day if you visit 2 museums with 4 people! Just imagine !

A Wonderful Retreat in Amsterdam

My husband and I and another couple booked with Fleur for a 3 day layover in Amsterdam after our adventurous 3 weeks in Africa. We were so looking forward to our stay with her and her family. Because we had so much luggage, she offered to pick us up at the airport for a reasonable extra fee. Her home is cozy and welcoming! We wanted to make the most of our short stay and Fleur immediately sat us down in her kitchen and gave us our museum passes, oriented us to the city on maps, gave us information on public transportation, and many recommendations of things to see and do, restaurants to eat at (and their specialties!). She was spot on for our needs and everything she recommended was perfect.
Breakfasts were delicious and plentiful, accommodations were clean, comfy, and quiet... a peaceful retreat at the end of whirlwind days in the busy city. The nearby restaurants she recommends were very good and a pleasant short walk.
She also arranged a ride for us back to the airport for a reasonable rate.
I would definitely choose to stay here again if I returned to Amsterdam.

Fleur's hospitality and graciousness was extraordinary. Upon our arrival, she helped us get
comfortable in our cozy room. Fleur helped us stow all our extra luggage in a separate room,
as we had just spent two weeks in Africa climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro. We sat around the kitchen table with Fleur, as she laid out a large map of Amsterdam, sipping coffee lattes. She spent time marking all the important city attractions and restaurants that would be worthwhile for us during our
stay. She gave us a tram map, pointed us to the closest street to hop on, and we were off exploring the city. Fleur gave us a wonderful list of restaurants that are located close to her home; each night after exploring the city, we were able to walk a few blocks to dinner. The location of her home is convenient to seeing and experiencing Amsterdam. Lastly, Fleur's breakfasts were filled with local cheese ,fresh bread, eggs and coffee lattes! Bottom line, if you want to experience Amsterdam from a local perspective, Fleur D' Amsterdam is the place to stay.

Fleur and her family bend over backwards to make your stay in Amsterdam enjoyable. Breakfasts are excellent (even when she leaves town and older son, Jan, us in charge), room is comfortable, museum pass is a real pass. Fleur knows everything about the city worth knowing and has all sorts of good advice for a visitor. Even after a short stay, I think I have a friend in Amsterdam. She even arranged a ride to the airport for us. One caveat: the walk from the tram to the house is long for anyone with walking problems, which I had at the time. But the friendly environment makes up for it. Be sure to bring an umbrella to Amsterdam; it rains a lot. I hope we can visit again.

Home away from Home

We had booked to go to Amsterdam (to visit our daughter who is studying there) on one of the busiest weekends of the year: Fleur bent over backwards to find space for us in her charming family home. The location for us was perfect as it is in an architecturally interesting area, close to the Science Park where our daughter is studying but easy to get to the central district on Tram 9. There are plenty of cafes and shops nearby but it is well away from all the tourist trails.

Fleur sorted out travel cards and museum passes for us when we arrived, making our stay so much easier- we simply went to the front of the huge queues to every museum. She gave us great advice on where to go and what to see. She also provided 2 very authentic Amsterdam bikes which we used to get about locally.

The room was nicely decorated, comfortable and clean- we were at the back overlooking the garden - it was also quiet so we slept well.

Breakfast was very relaxed in the family kitchen overlooking the garden. On the Sunday of our stay, Fleur also invited our daughter to join us and she took us all to a flea market in an area north of the city which was fun.

Overall staying with Fleur gave us an insight into the real Amsterdam and how a dutch family lives- so much better than staying in an anonymous hotel.

We will definitely be going back!

The stay at Fleur’s place is just unforgettable, situated in a lovely ,quiet suburb of Amsterdam. The location is absolutely PERFECT and with Fleur around, you have an on-tap source of information. Fleur is an enthusiastic ambassador for Amsterdam; show interest in one thing, and she will give you many options to maximise your day. It is 5 min walk, from the tram station. The double room is decorated with antiques an collectables and that made me feel quite at home. The spacious bathroom is modern with warm towels, ready! Every thing is crisp and clean. The breakfast served, is made with the best, fresh, mostly organic ingredients. This stay is highly commendable.
