We had a most enjoyable stay at Mermaid Cottage in July 2010. Mermaid Cottage is one of, if not the most comfortable, rental home we have vacationed in. Well maintained, clean and fitted with everything you could need for an enjoyable vacation. It's a short walk to the beach, a short drive to shopping. We enjoyed the swimming pool every afternoon of our stay. We enjoyed watching the sunrise over the ocean from the upstairs deck, and sunsets over the preserved area viewed from the main deck. We took time to see the Wild Horses of Corolla and the Corolla Light. We ate a lot of great sea food and spent time at Kitty Hawk to see what the Wright brothers had done. We plan to return to Mermaid Cottage.
We are a retired military couple and have traveled the world. Now we call the VA Peninsula home which allows to be hands on home owners. We would like to share the Outer Banks with everyone.
We love the Outer Banks. The development is limited by size and codes making for a uncrowded and relaxing place with pristine beaches. We loved seeing the wild mustangs. They roamed this area when we first came down. Now for their own safety, they have been moved to the 4 wheel drive area which is North of Corolla. You make take tours to go see them.
There is nothing like the beach to relax and the Outer Banks has some of the best beaches on the East Coast.
You will see the brown pelcians flying in a row, going North for fishing (we think). They ride the wind draft coming off the dunes. We have counted a group of 32.
