Harry grew up in Salida and the first time he took me to visit, I was enchanted. Some of his fondest memories are of hiking back into the mountain lakes and creeks to fish and getting to skii Monarch. I grew up in the hot, humid south and love the cooler temperatures with low humidity and eagerly look forward to retirement in Chaffee County. When we are on our way to the cabin and we see the snow capped mountains, we know we're nearly home.
Wendy Walters purchased this cabin in 2010
We bought Forest Creek in 2010 and it was love at first sight. The natural setting is beautiful with the river, the majestic cliffs and the forest. In the fall, the beauty of the fall color is awe inspiring and the sound of the river and waterfall are soothing to the ears year round. From the time you enter the cabin you feel at peace, knowing this is a place where you can unwind and remove yourself from the stresses of life. The cabin has lovely views from every window porch and balcony.
Forest Creek is your great escape in any season! For the winter guest.. Skiing Monarch is #1, with all natural powder.. Or you can have a great time sledding, snow shoeing, skiing, or snowmobiling . For warmer seasons, the list of activities is unlimited: mountain biking, horseback riding, 4 WD exploring, Zip-treking, searching through galleries, antique stores or fabulous yarn shops. Evening fun in Salida can be catching live music in taverns or coffee houses or The Steam Plant.
WOW....what an awesome stay at a little piece of Heaven. The accomodations were perfect, every detail was thought of and every need was supplied. The location and mountain views from every direction were a testimony to God's great creation!! It was just my husband and me this time, but I am hopeful that the family can return and capture the "wonder" that we so much enjoyed.
It has been almost a month since our stay in Monarch and it still lives on in my memory. Our family came for two and half weeks and were sad to go at the end. My favorite spot was sitting on the back porch in one of the rocking chairs, sipping my coffee, wrapped in a blanket in the cool morning. Every convenience we needed was provided. It was smalll enough to stay manageable but large enough to move around and give everyone their own space. We did many hikes in the surrounding area that were breathtaking and then came back to sit on the back porch and hear the water rushing. We also spent a lot of time in Salida thrifting at all the hip thrift clothing stores, eating great food at the many restaurants and sitting outside on the lawn for concerts. We loved driving from hot Salida to cold Monarch. In just 20 minutes, it was like we were in another weather zone. We are very appreciative of our time in this house and will remember it always.
Just got back from a wonderful stay in the mountains! The owners have spent a lot of time (and money) making the place comfortable and homey for all who visit. The cabin is nestled in the woods with plenty of off-street parking available right in front of the cabin. They recently resurfaced and reconfigured the parking area making it easy to drive in, park and turn around. As another guest mentioned, the well-equipped open kitchen is a great place to cook and the adjoining dining area make for a great place for a dinner party. The recently added dishwasher makes clean-up much easier. The upstairs loft area has two double beds and would be a great place for kids to sleep and play with the cozy rug covering the floor up there. It's a wonderful place to just sit back, relax and watch the wildlife for your entertainment. If you need more modern forms of entertainment, there are flat screen TVs upstairs and down with satellite TV service. I also understand that they're in the process of replacing their internet service with high speed access. So, everyone can have the option of staying connected at big city speeds. I highly recommend this charming, peaceful get away in the woods!
What a warm stove to cuddle up to! a great kitchen to cook in, and a wonderful table to share meals around after a day of being outside shopping or enjoying the outdoors. The temperatures outside were frigid, but we were warm and toasty inside, thanks to the Empire stove and the warm blankets on the bed. I slept so soundly. Wow! my facebook photos to friends back home were just amazing! It was the best vacation of all times! Thanks for a beautiful cabin and all the love you give to it.
