We had visited The Sea Ranch many times over the years and wanted to come more often.
We purchased the Redwood Cottage in 1998, spent some time putting our imprint on it and have enjoyed sharing it with many visitors since then.
Gary Gallaher purchased this cottage in 1998
The 'walk-in cabins' are a unique group of small but well designed homes with a minimal footprint in keeping with the original Sea Ranch concept of living lightly on the land. Each is surrounded by 'commons' rather than having lots which are contiguous with their neighbors.
They have everything you need in one open space, plus a loft for sleeping.
When we had visited The Sea Ranch we typically stayed in one of the conventional Sea Ranch houses. They were lovely, but we kept thinking all we need is 'a little cabin in the woods' .
When we learned about these unique homes it just seemed right for us.
Waking up to see the towering redwoods through two huge skylights is always amazing.
One of us is a runner and hiker who loves to run/hike the many trails right from the cabin.
One of us enjoys the peacefulness of the forest with the ocean in sight.
We both look forward to relaxing in the spa and watching the stars overhead.
A short drive takes us to easy access to the bluff trail to be close to the always changing ocean.
My husband and I loved it. Very close to the Pacific Ocean and quiet with just the sounds of nature. Would go back if time permits. Very nice cottage at The Sea Ranch.
This place is amazing! If you're looking to get away, need fresh air, or just appreciate nature, this cozy cottage will go above and beyond your expectations. We were so relaxed and at ease with simply being surrounded by the serenity of trees and greenery. The bed is so comfy, you wake up gazing at the tops of trees through giant ceiling windows. The kitchen is efficient and fully stocked with any and all supplies you could need. Everything is clean and comfortable! The cottage is beautifully decorated, and it is clear within moments of entering that a lot of love went into ensuring the comfort and joy of your stay. It was beyond a pleasure and we can't wait to get back! Highly recommended to anyone! Thank you Gary and Elaine for making it possible on such short notice! Certainly a vacation we will never forget.
We really loved this simple cabin in the redwoods, you feel like you're completely immersed in the redwood forest while getting to be inside. After unpacking your stuff, you park your car down the hill and walk in and the setting in the redwoods and the distance from cars helped make it feel like a complete getaway. The cabin is well kept and has a wonderful vibe. Perfect views from every angle of very room. There is a loft double bed and then two bunk beds that would be fun for kids.
The cabin is very clean and well maintained. At first I didn't think the wood stove inspired gas heater was going to be enough to heat the place, but I was pleasantly surprised how quickly everything warmed up. The kitchen is super clean and well stocked with just about everything you could need. The spa is a little on small side; probably only big enough for two. But since there was just myself and my fiancee, it was perfect. I will definitely be recommending this cabin to friends and family!
Beautifully maintained property; responsive owners. Comfortable, well-lighted; windows everywhere plus 2 large skylights in bedroom made this feel like a treehouse in the midst of the redwoods. View of the ocean in a slice through the trees.
A hike down to the bluffs overlooking the ocean in Sea Ranch. Walkable despite an uphill climb back.
Peaceful secluded area in a lovely setting. If you want some time away from the bustle of everyday life, this is a great choice!
So many of the Sea Ranch properties no longer feel like cabins, but generic homes that could be found anywhere. I suppose that many individuals want only luxury with their vacay, but we wanted the true essence of Sea Ranch. This walk-in cabin is part of the award winning cabins architecturally designed by Obie Bowman, and it still retains all the charm and thoughtfulness of a well-designed abode in the woods.
We loved playing games at the table with a view, we loved the cute lighthouse theme, and we adored being woken by the morning sun. We hiked the redwoods, the beach and the meadows; we hit the Gualala artist's studio tour and found some gems to bring home (never too early for Xmas presents!) and we hit Ft. Ross on the way home for a piece of Northern CA history. As for the amenities; the spa was fabulous, the bed and pillows comfy, and the kitchen well apportioned.
There is a NY Times article titled "Utopia by the Sea" we found, and wondered if the writer was referencing this cabin. Overall we adored this place, and plan to be back! Soon.
Renters have access to all Sea Ranch facilities are available only to owners and guests/renters. The facilities include 3 pools, saunas, tennis counts and many miles of well maintained private hiking trails, both near the ocean and though the redwood and pine/fir forests.
