I was struck by how beautiful and unique this home was, and how it is centrally located in Los Angeles. It's not far from the Studios, Downtown, Beverly Hills, Koreatown, Little Tokyo, and a variety of hot spots. Hollywood is an old area with a lot of history, personality and mystery. It is wildly diverse, and you can find whatever you want. There are urban streets, beautiful rows of old California Bungalows, right next to the peace of the hills.

Thank you very much for having let us stay in your beautiful, full of spirit house. It was a wonderful gift for us. We have adore adore to be here with Babette and Butch, your kindest cats. With regrets we have to leave...
We cannot say enough about this experience from the time we placed the order until we left the property to return home. Our primary contact (Mary Kay) was so helpful and full of information regarding directions and sightseeing opportunities. This really helped us plan out our week before we even stepped on the plane.
This was our first family trip to the LA area so our primary focus were the typical tourist spots. The house being built on the side of the mountain provided a beautiful view of the landscape with the city on the distant horizon. The location was perfect - 15 minutes to Universal/Warner Bros, 10 minutes to the strip and museums, an hour to Disney and the ocean. It was originally suggested by the travel agent to use a Disney hotel and we are go grateful we found this place instead.
The house was clean, organized, and they provided a 'guide book' that detailed everything we needed to know about the house, along with emergency contacts. There was more than enough room for our family of five to sleep, eat, relax. When we arrived, there was a Christmas tree set up in the living room, lights on the deck, and a couple of goodies as a welcome present on the dining room table. This was a nice surprise for our kids who reluctantly assumed that we would not be celebrating Christmas this year. During the stay, we also received a couple of e-mails from Mary Kay with some 'secret' directions to be able to hike to a couple of interesting points throughout the park.
We would highly recommend this home to anyone else who may be planning a trip out that way.
My family and I stayed in this unique and beautiful home for a week's vacation in LA. Everything was just as advertised. There was clearly much love and thought put into the design and care of this home. It is beautifully appointed with everything we needed. There was plenty of space to cook, spread out and relax, with comfortable beds and linens and a great set-up for our family so each child could have his own room. We spent the mornings on the deck having the coffee left for us to enjoy while we overlooked the beautiful view. And we especially loved the Japanese bathroom and shower. The location was perfect allowing us to easily access all areas we visited while returning to a quiet, somewhat out-of-the-way neighborhood. A great way to enjoy the city but also feel like we could get away from it all and relax in the house. The owners were lovely to work with, provided very clear instructions and accommodated all of our needs. Thank you for the lovely gifts of wine and the book about Hollywood! We would absolutely recommend this house to anyone and look forward to returning for a future stay the next time we are in LA.
We had the most amazing Xmas holiday at this Mid century zen oasis in the hollywood hills. The house is nestled in beachwood canyon overlooking downtown Los Angeles…Its incredibly light and airy surrounded by stunning nature with fantastic views…
It also has the most spectacular walks in the beachwood neighborhoods and stunning lake hollywood.. We did a hike mostly every day and would spend the afternoons lounging reading books on the balcony overlooking the city… there is also a wonderful breakfast spot in beachwood (5-10 mins walk) old hollywood land so lots of history and charm… if you are a foodie the area is fantastic for restaurants and food markets… lots of cool neighborhoods also in the area…
We invited family for Xmas day and had the most wonderful celebration as the layout was fantastic for entertaining and the kitchen very well equipped.. The house has every mod con you can imagine … the owners also got us a tree and decorated it beautifully and had wonderful xmas lights all over the balcony so it was very festive.. we would sit at night in front of the fire and felt so at peace in this wonderful home…
The owners clearly have a lot of style and take pride in their wonderfully unique architectural home.. the house is spotless and very well organized.. The cat Babette is also lovely natured and was very welcoming.. This is a truly amazing gem we found and will for sure visit again!!! we highly recommend!!!
Once again, we found a great home on VRBO. The house is in a perfect location with beautiful views, nice neighbors and lots of comfort. The owners were very responsive in every way during the rental process and everything was exactly as pictured and described. Our family of four with two teens was very comfortable and enjoyed being "at home" so much at times it was difficult to leave the house. We especially enjoyed being able to open the windows to feel the cool breezes (even in July) and the quiet of the neighborhood. Except for the day the garbage trucks came by, it was amazingly quiet. The Beachwood Market and the the Cafe were favorites and within walking distance. We even saw a few celebrities in the cafe which was fun for us tourists. The hike to the Hollywood sign and Reservoir was indeed a short start from the front door and we enjoyed walking in that area several times. We would love to return here again and enjoy this beautiful Beachwood home in the Hollywood hills.
The location and home were absolutely fabulous!! Also the ownners Mary Kay, and Matthew were excellent to deal with, and truly care about your satisfaction. The neighbor even came over with a cake:) Not your typical rental property. This is a REAL home, not your normal rental where there are 4 plates, 4 knives etc. Our daughter was taking a course in nearby Hollywood, and the drive from this location was only 10 minutes in the morning. We used the grill daily, and loved the location. Coffee in the morning on the deck was very relaxing. Plenty of trees, and wonderful views of the city. I would definately recommend this property to anyone wanting to stay in the Hollywood area. Also the information provided by Mary Kay and Matthew was extremely helpful. Hopefully we can get back here in the next few years.
As background, we have been renting homes when we travel for about 15 years. During those rentals there have been various highs and lows (we still don't discuss a certain home on Martha's Vineyard in front of the kids and we have rented the same house in Goult, FR for nearly 10 years). We understand that "amenities" are not the same thing to everybody and we also understand that the "ideal" home does not represent the same thing to everybody. So when we search for a rental home we rely heavily on an accurate representation of the home and feel its up to us to select an area in the city that we'll like.
With that out of the way, we hope to rent this home again for as long as we come to Los Angeles. Simple as that. As for the physical home... It's a great 2 story open layout for family togetherness downstairs and bedrooms upstairs, it has great outside areas for young and old, it has incredible views both day and night, it comes with an incredibly friendly housecat, it comes with a well-stocked kitchen and it's in that kind of well-kept and updated condition that just makes you want to keep it neat and clean. Accurately described.
Next the fantastic location. We really wanted to stay in the hills and have a view (achieved) but we really didn't want traffic noise (read north of Sunset) or to have too much hassle to grab a quick bite or buy groceries (but not be all the way out in Pasadena or above Malibu). This neighborhood and this house were perfect for that. We would walk downhill in 10 minutes and be at the hoppin' diner (a local joint with a fresh menu) or the well-stocked neighborhood grocery store. Driving for 10 minutes to Franklin we would turn left and be at some more locals only restaurants/coffee/groceries without ever hitting a major road. Turn right and you were right on the 101 headed south to Downtown or the 10 (but we never heard the noise up at the house!). Stay headed south and you were on Hollywood in a flash (we caught a movie at the Chinese theater one evening and from house to parking was < 15 minutes).
The hiking in the area was an unexpected bonus. Without driving we walked over to the cordoned off Hollywood Reservoir area with miles of walking trails (maybe 100 yards away). We could even hike all the way around to the Hollywood Sign or Griffith Observatory without ever leaving trails. Such a pleasant surprise to find with the convenience of LA at your doorstep.
Last thing - excellent owner communication to boot!
Completely private, quiet sanctuary yet only 5 minutes to the heart of Hollywood, with fabulous restaurants, clubs, movie theaters, live theaters, museums, fitness center and other activities.
Walk 100 feet up the street to a wooded path that leads down to the Hollywood Reservoir which is a beautiful 3 mile walk, or take another path past Madonna's house, to the best view of the Hollywood sign, to a dog and children's Park.
