Overview

Lancaster House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths (Sleeps 9)

Retreat back into time in this 1867 vintage schoolhouse. Having all the amenities of home, it is nestled on 3.5 acres of woodland and meadow. Sit on a rocker on the front porch and take in the view of the valley, or walk the trail and see nature firsthand. Kids will like their own special area in the pine grove. House has an open layout with the living room, dining room, and kitchen all part of a common area. 2 bedrooms are off of this room, 1 with a large sleigh king bed, the other with a queen bed and view of the meadow. A full bath is on this 1st floor, as well as a laundry room. Kitchen is fully equipped, should you wish to cook. 2nd floor is another large room with old-style knotty pine paneling and wall-to-wall new shag carpeting. With a built-in queen bed, single bed, and bunk beds, it sleeps 5. There is a full bath on this 2nd floor as well. Walking Paths, Outdoor Children's Play Area. TV and DVD in each bedroom. Has Wifi.

Why the Owner Chose Lancaster: : I purchased this home from my uncle and aunt, who lived there for 58 years.

The Unique Benefits at this House: : Year Purchased: 2008 - You are close to nature in this setting. The house is very cozy, with a fireplace and large windows to look out. The second floor 'bunk room' has wall to wall carpeting and real knotty pine walls. A hiking trail runs through the property.

Owner Description/Comments:: This property has been in the Holzinger family for 60 years. As the owner, I bought the property 3 years ago from my uncle and aunt. They initially bought the property in 1948 and had it converted from a schoolhouse into a residence.

Exactly What We Wanted

  • 5 of 5

We were two families (5 kids in all) that spent a lovely weekend in this beautiful retreat. The house was clean, well equipped and comfortable. We have already planned our next vacation there! Thank you for opening up this fantastic hideaway for others to enjoy!

Peaceful, warm and cosy

  • 5 of 5

This is a gem of a house, with every kitchen convenience and utensil one could want. Shops, restaurants and nature parks are so close, but you'd never know it from its private wooded surroundings. The kids loved the upstairs bedroom floor and the separate game building with Foosball. I loved the woodsy ambience of the working fireplace (firewood supplied), large dining table and the view of a farming valley. The owner was SO friendly and helpful. I think he may be Will Rogers reincarnated!

Lights were on when we got there!!

  • 4 of 5

We loved the history of this old school house! The owner was very good to work with and prompt with all communications. There was plenty of room for our family of nine. It was a beautiful location. The only reason I did not give it five stars is because it was a little dusty and the floors were a little dirty when we got there. We would stay again!

Peaceful, spacious, relaxing, what more can I say.

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at numerous vacation rentals and Sylvan Retreat did not disappoint. This place is spacious, the room upstairs was wonderful for the kids to play in and the yard was marvelous. Plenty of room for all eight of us. We cancelled plans to stay home one night and grill, have a fire, and the kids caught fireflies. We played music and relaxed. The yard is truly a retreat. The kids loved the playset, I enjoyed the glider and the men loved the pool table and ping pong table in the garage. There was also a foosball game. It took me a bit to find the garage, but it is down the driveway. We took hikes on the trails and the kids and adults picked berries. I loved it that there was no TV in the living room, but in all the bedrooms. Phil had everything you need there and it was clean (which is my first priority.) No one was ready to leave and hope to be back.

Amazing!!!

  • 5 of 5

We loved everything about this house!! It was such a wonderful weekend away with the kids. The house has everything you could possibly need and more. We enjoyed the grounds and all there was to do. Kids had so much fun running around playing ball and chaising fireflies at night! We had a wonderful bonfire with smores and just a nice family time. We all wanted to stay longer!!!! Cannot wait to go back and relax again.

Thank you Phil for sharing this beautiful home!!!

Wonderful vacation, peaceful, but still close to everything. Plenty for kids to do outside and enjoy the fresh air and lovely breezes. I'd stay again.
