Laurence Chang purchased this apartment in 2004
This historic Victorian is located in the very heart of San Francisco, with access to great transportation all over the city and much to do within convenient walking distance. The neighborhood is safe, pedestrian-friendly and public transportation options abound.
This Queen Anne Victorian is located in a neighborhood with many Edwardian and Queen Anne Victorians, but it is within easy walking distance of some of the City's best dining and shopping. The street is lined by old Magnolia trees and there are large parks close by, but this apartment also faces a small garden in the rear. For us, from the moment we walk into the gated front yard, filled with jasmine and lavender, it is a quiet oasis, with the Castro District, restaurants, bars, clubs, parks all conveniently located close by.
This apartment is spacious and well maintained. It's right near the Castro and transportation to downtown. Laurence is very helpful and not intrusive. Bed is very comfortable. There's a deck overlooking a lovely garden with koi pond. The place is located toward the back of the house, so there is hardly any street noise. There's a full kitchen with auto coffee/tea maker, very basically equipped. Highly recommended.
What a wonderful surprise this was! Perfect location with a bus right out the front door and Muni just down the street. Owners (Nick and Laurence) kept in close contact with us and even provided a notebook full of good suggestions about restaurants and attractions. We went to many of the restaurants they suggested (most within walking distance) and were never disappointed. Our stay was two weeks and we felt right at home in the lovely, clean and well decorated apartment. If there was any downside, it was minor - we wish they had provided enough basics for our 2 weeks like paper towels, foil, toliet paper, etc. We would definitely stay here again and have already recommended it to family.
Awesome little hideaway in the Castro district, everything you need is contained inside this spacious apartment. Laurence and Nick were informative and kept us up to date with things to do while in San Fran, they were also easy to contact and liaise with if we had any questions, they also recommended local restaurants for us to try. Thanks again

What can I say...amazing place. We (party of 4) spent 4 nights in this appartment and it exceeded expectations. Payment and reimbursement of our deposit went without a hitch. The place was exactly as described, a quaint little Victorian place in the city but without the hustle and bustle unless you wanted to. It was walking distance to the tram, restaurants and super market. In fact, just days before our trip, Nick had already started writing to us, giving us tips on places of interest and what to dos. This went on even whilst we were there. All this was on top of the already very detailed file that they (the owners: Nick and Laurence) had put together in the appartment for visitors.
The appartment was modern and extremely well maintained. Cable TV kept the kids quite whilst getting over the time change. One morning the cable receiver decided to take a break but Laurence was in real quick fixing it up. I did spend some time on the porch which overlooked a small garden with pond. A small oasis of peace and tranquility....and some nice wine. There are restaurants galore around the area so just walk around. We had dinner near- by at Super Duper Burgers. Good stuff. The queue did wind out of the doors at one point...always a good sign.
We did spend quite a fair bit of time in the main city area itself which was about 40mins away with the tram (direct) depending on where you were getting off so real convenient getting to the sight seeing spots. Recommend renting a bike and riding across the Golden Gate. There are bike rentals opportunities galore - just walk along the wharf area and you can't miss them. View was spectecular and the bike rental place provided maps and tips - mind you it's not exactly cheap where bike rentals are concerned. We stopped at Sausalito and took the ferry back but you could bike further if you wanted.
So if you're are planing a trip to SF, we were glad that we stayed at Laurence and Nick's place. I believe they even have a studio appartment on top of this one bedroom that we took.
The apartment is comfortable and in a quiet location, close to restaurants and local transport, exactly as described in previous reviews.
We would like to make special mention of the way that Laurence and Nick put themselves out to make our stay as enjoyable as possible.
Nick sent us several emails with information on places to visit and things to do.
One suggestion was Mission Dolores on 16th, a 15 minute walk from the apartment.Completed in 1791, it is the oldest intact building in San Francisco. In addition to the Mission itself, the Basilica, Museum and Cemetery are fascinating and provide an insight into the founding of the City of San Francisco.
The Castro district is fun and we made the 'Twin Peaks' pub our local. Our favourite restaurant was 'Cafe Mystique.' Try the Moroccan Chicken followed by fried banana.
On the day of our departure, Laurence kindly arranged for a taxi to take us to the Airport.
The apartment provided a comfortable and economical way to enjoy San Francisco. Much nicer than any hotel.
Ps. An iron on the premises would have been useful.
No Hotel can compete with this appartment. The appartment is very well situated close to Market Street, thus to enjoy the City by public means is very easy. It is furnished tasteful and clean. WLAN is fast. The is not a single reason to complain.
Known as Duboce Triangle, this area features many Victorian homes but is close the restaurants, bars and nightlight. Located on a Magnolia lined residential street just north of the famous Castro District, this quiet residential neighborhood is safe and walkable with nice restaurants and shops close by. And across Market Street is the historic Castro Theater; up the hill is the Randall Children's Museum overlooking the City. One block away is our weekly Farmer's Market (seasonal April to December). The unit is within blocks of all San Francisco MUNI light rail ones and the historic F line which features historic street car from around the world and is a fantastic way to travel to Union Square, Fisherman's Wharf, Ghirardelli Square, the Moscone Center, museums and so much more. You won't need a car! See the map - look how many parks are located nearby. Hike? Play tennis? There are a number of free public tennis courts nearby - play tennis surrounded by redwood trees and views of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco Bay. Or walk a few blocks down 16th Street to Mission Dolores the old Spanish Mission which is where San Francisco was founded.Visit the historic wooden church across the street which still holds services in German. Dine outside and enjoy the California sun in this neighborhood which is part of the sun belt protected from the summer fog by the ridge line to the West of us.Enjoy all San Francisco has to offer… but come home to quiet, cozy place to rest.
