A trained hospitality and restaurant professional, the owner lives in the same Victorian building and manages multiple rental units and has been listed with HomeAway/VRBO since 2009 (see HomeAway listing 297503).

Laurence Chang purchased this apartment in 2004

This historic Victorian is located in the very heart of San Francisco, with access to great transportation all over the city and much to do within convenient walking distance. The neighborhood is safe, pedestrian-friendly and public transportation options abound.

This Queen Anne Victorian is located in a neighborhood with many Edwardian and Queen Anne Victorians, but it is within easy walking distance of some of the City's best dining and shopping. The street is lined by old Magnolia trees and there are large parks close by, but this apartment also faces a small garden in the rear. For us, from the moment we walk into the gated front yard, filled with jasmine and lavender, it is a quiet oasis, with the Castro District, restaurants, bars, clubs, parks all conveniently located close by.

Secluded and Quiet

  • 5 of 5
There was no decision easier to make than when I found this listing. When we got to the house, everything was exactly as described. Lawrence greeted us and showed us our new "home" that we'd be living in for the next few days. After that, we saw him around but he was never intrusive - we honestly felt like we were staying at a friend's house.

Staying in a suite in a house versus staying at a hotel is something we always prefer to do as it makes us feel like we are living and experiencing the real life of San Francisco. Both Nick and Lawrence made us feel comfortable and gave us lots of wonderful suggestions of places to see, restaurant recommendations, and even directions how to get to Candlestick Park.

The suite was spotless and the bed was comfortable.

Thank you Nick and Lawrence for having us. We would love to stay with you again, soon.

Hidden Gem in the Castro.

  • 5 of 5
We stayed here the last week of July 2014 and absolutely loved it. Beautiful hardwood floor, tastefully decorated, and a wonderful zen garden in the backyard complete with fountain and fish! We enjoyed several nights sipping wine on the back deck just listening to the fountain. Perfect for unwinding after a full day of sightseeing!
We also loved the complimentary coffee and teas as well. The queen bed was extremely comfortable and the unit is extremely clean. The neighborhood is very quiet and safe, but is close to the Castro area and if you want you can be almost anywhere in SF in 15 mins. There is a narrow set of stairs to the back unit so if someone has issues walking it might not be the best, but doable.

A really cool place to stay in San Francisco!

  • 5 of 5
We stayed here form 23rd May- 8th June 2014. This is a really nice apartment with large living area with TV, Convertible sofa/Double Bed, and Armchair/Single bed. It has a large bathroom fully equipped with towels etc and a large Bedroom with a very comfortable double bed, built-in wardrobe and lots of drawers in side-table and bedside tables. A fully equipped kitchen (with coffee/tea maker and complimentary teas and coffees!) and a nice deck area at the rear make this a super place to stay. It has a brilliant location, beside the famous Castro Street Theater and shopping area and is a only a 2 minute walk from the MUNI tube serving the City (frequent trains - 20 mins to city centre) and a train direct to the Zoo. The F train is also 2 minutes away and takes you direct to Pier 39 and to the Exploratorium and the cable car ride up California Street! It is 15 minutes walk to Haight Ashbury and the nearby N train from Duboce (5 mins) leaves you 10 minutes walk from the Botanical Gardens, California Museum of Science and all the other attractions of Golden Gate Park. The area is very safe and everyone id really helpful andf friendly We intend to return again next year! Our hosts were very thoughtful and made sure that our stay was a really enjoyable experience - We would never want to stay in cramped hotel rooms again!

Vacation trip

  • 5 of 5
Great apartment in a prime location for the Muni cable car and subway transportation. Muni, located down the hill takes you to the center of the city, union square's shopping district, as well as fishermans wharf. Short walking distance to many cafés and stores. Furthermore, a bus stops right in front of the complex to jump on if you wish to avoid climbing up or down the hill. Close to Ike's sandwich shop, Dolores Park, Dolores Mission and the infamous Castro Theater! Fabulous night life entertainment just minutes away.
The apartment is well kept, clean, and comfortable. We felt safe at the location and the people are generally friendly & helpful.
Appreciated the complimentary coffee & tea. The patio and garden is fabulous and very serene.
It can be a bit cold at night since the thermostat is locked and set at 72, but it gives you more reason to snuggle up :). Also, be aware that there are stairs going down to get to this 1 bedroom, if your lugging bags. We really enjoyed having a washer & dryer on the premises (bring plenty of coins).
Overall, this is a great place that is all about location, location, location. Btw, Nick & Laurence are very helpful, welcoming, and allow for privacy :).

Owner's Response: We appreciated this wonderful review and are happy to promote 'snuggling' but we also want ensure all our guests are very comfortable and happy. The unit is equipped with the latest technology "Nest" brand learning thermostat. But based on this feedback we have expanded the settings to allow guests to adjust to a wider range of temperatures and are providing written directions in our visitor book on how to use the Nest Thermostat.

Excellent choice in SF

  • 5 of 5
There are so many reasons to give a "thumbs up" to this property: location, quality, quietness, comfort...and a few extras too. Let's take a look at the highlights:

Location: right in the Castro/Noe Valley area and a short walk to the Muni (light rail), streetcar line, and with a bus stop literally at the front door. Lots of restaurant options in the area, parks nearby.

Quality: new or nearly-new furnishings throughout. Large bathroom, living room, dining area and well-equipped kitchen. The apartment was very clean.

Quietness: not expected in a busy city location, but this apartment faces a beautiful back garden and the apartment is remarkably quiet.

Comfort: the bed is comfortable, which is so important, but is not always the case with a rental.

Extras: welcoming and accommodating hosts offered tips about the area. The hosts were flexible and helpful, but left us alone too (and that's a positive).

Car: not necessary

Known as Duboce Triangle, this area features many Victorian homes but is close the restaurants, bars and nightlight. Located on a Magnolia lined residential street just north of the famous Castro District, this quiet residential neighborhood is safe and walkable with nice restaurants and shops close by. And across Market Street is the historic Castro Theater; up the hill is the Randall Children's Museum overlooking the City. One block away is our weekly Farmer's Market (seasonal April to December). The unit is within blocks of all San Francisco MUNI light rail ones and the historic F line which features historic street car from around the world and is a fantastic way to travel to Union Square, Fisherman's Wharf, Ghirardelli Square, the Moscone Center, museums and so much more. You won't need a car! See the map - look how many parks are located nearby. Hike? Play tennis? There are a number of free public tennis courts nearby - play tennis surrounded by redwood trees and views of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco Bay. Or walk a few blocks down 16th Street to Mission Dolores the old Spanish Mission which is where San Francisco was founded.Visit the historic wooden church across the street which still holds services in German. Dine outside and enjoy the California sun in this neighborhood which is part of the sun belt protected from the summer fog by the ridge line to the West of us.Enjoy all San Francisco has to offer… but come home to quiet, cozy place to rest.
