In summer, there is a large sunny deck with chairs and tables for reading or eating while listening to the sounds of birds and the rush of a nearby waterfall. A hammock hangs among the sweet smelling pines in front of the house. The deck also has a traditional wood-fired hot tub to relax in enjoy and watch the stars from at night.
High speed wireless Internet allows you to stay connected to the outside world if that will make your vacation more relaxing. There is an Apple TV to watch Netflix and other streaming content on a flat screen TV.
The large bath was completely remodeled in 2006 and includes an antique medicine chest, a large restored claw-foot shower-tub with a view of the surrounding hills, designer glass tile and bamboo flooring.
In summer, take a leisurely drive (the nearest traffic light is 15 miles away) to some of the wonderful organic farms and farmers markets for fresh Vermont produce and dairy and cook a fantastic meal in the large well-equipped gourmet country kitchen with dishwasher. You can create a feast here - or a simple country breakfast. Or choose from many fine restaurants in the area, like Mary's in Bristol.
More great restaurants using local ingredients are available in Richmond, Bristol, Burlington and Warren or Waitsfield - all within 20 minutes from the property (except Burlington, which is 35 mins).
In winter, ski out the front door and enjoy cross-country delights for hours. Or hop in your car for a short drive to the 'majors.' Sugarbush is 20 mins from the front door. Stowe is 45 mins away, Mad River Glen just 10 mins away. Return home to a crackling glass-front wood stove and hook up your music player to the stereo with provided cable. Relax and enjoy! Much better than a hotel.
New full size washer/dryer and new fridge installed in 2012.

Remote, yet accessible. Absolutely beautiful nature all around and a large well flowing floorplan.
Peace and quiet and tranquility. You won't see another soul unless you want to.
My husband and I traveled to Vermont for our 1st wedding anniversary. After researching various accommodation options, we decided that we wanted privacy in a home rental and were also excited about the hot tub at this house. We diligently read all the reviews for the listing on here and other sites and almost all were positive and raving. So we booked. Steven was also extremely responsive and sent us thorough information ahead of time.
On arrival, we were honestly disappointed in the shape of the house. To be kind, the furnishings are shabby and run down. If we were 25 and with a group of friends skiing, it would probably be great. It just wasn't comfortable, and certainly not at all romantic. The hot tub was fine but took a very long time and constant fire stoking to heat up adequately. I went back and read the listing description, and there are no lies or misrepresentations. I guess I was just being optimistic about what to expect in a fairly expensive rental. Granted, there are a lot of great reviews, so many people must think this place was great, it just wasn't for us on our anniversary.
We really enjoyed our stay in Steven's home! It is cozy and rustic and filled with so much charm! It seemed as if every piece of decor and furniture had a story to it, filling all the rooms with energy and character. I loved the mirrored wooden wall screen in the living room! I had fun just exploring the house to see what vintage item was lurking in the corner. Kitchen is fully stocked with all the pots, pans, plates, etc. you would ever need. Great room to cook together with friends and family. Nice big bathroom with unlimited supply of hot water. The beds were clean and comfortable and kept me very warm (thumbs up to the down comforters!!!). Loved the wood stove - took a little bit of time to learn how to start a fire, but we were pros by the next day. This place would have been perfect for our original group of 8 - and very roomy for our group of 5. After a day of snowboarding the hot tub would have been wonderful, but unfortunately, we started the fire too late in the evening and it takes a lot of time for all that water to warm up. It didn't ruin our stay at all - we were content just hanging out inside where it was warm. :) But that's a definite to-do item on our next visit! I didn't bring my dog with me, but I wish I had! The location is spectacular. At night, you can see every star in the sky! In the morning, I watched the sun rise behind the mountain in the distance. Great place to get away, recharge, find some peace, or spend quality time with friends and family.
We had a good time during our stay at this rental. While I was expecting "a little dust on the bottle," the condition of this home needs some upgrades. Particularly, the couch in the living room has a long line of duct tape along the top seam. Duct tape on furniture is not rustic, it's trashy.
Exceptional rustic country.retreat....we enjoyed the local swimming holes almost every day and the hot tub under the shooting stars by night...went kayaking through Clearwater Sports in Waitsfield, antiquing in Waterbury, hiking and bouldering in Smuggler's Notch. We visited the Neighborly Farm and the Fat Toad Farm creameries in Brookfield and Randolph and enjoyed the bird watching off the deck..hawks/ blue heron/goldfinches/cedar waxwings/a savannah sparrow/ruby-throated hummingbirds in the flowers around the deck and of course the ever-present delightfully darting chickadees. There were also enough great knives /pans/a barbeque and local produce to make a great meal.
Wanted a place to really feel the vibe of Vermont in a setting private, yet accessible; cozy and rustic, yet comfortable. This place is it. We went in the peak of fall and I can't imagine a nicer place to stay. The owner Stephen was also very easy and pleasant to deal with. Would love to experience this place in the splendor of other seasons. The living room area was great at night sitting in front of the wood stove with drink in hand and the kitchen large enough to hang out while preparing the communal meal. Anyway, I highly recommend this wonderful place and would love to come back again.
A great retreat from a busy life. It was adventure indoors! This is a great find! You would think that you were totally isolated but a few yards away, you can see cars passing by. For those city folks needing some time off but not wanting to go completely off radar but still have the luxury to go to very cool places like Burlington, Stowe and ofcourse our neighbors, CANADA.. This is the place to be. The wifi helps to be connected from the outside world while the warmth of the wood stove completely envelops you! The outdoor hottub was amazing against the cold air and as Steven says its pretty magical in the winter! Thanks for an amazing stay!
Relax and unwind in your own private setting. This unique property is located in the gorgeous Huntington River Valley - just over the hill from major ski resorts, yet totally removed in attitude and energy - and much closer to Burlington. If you want to have access to all the restaurants and amenities that Burlington and the ski friendly Mad River Valley offer, yet retreat to your own private world at the end of a day - this is the spot for you.
Situated on over eight private acres (and backing up to hundreds more of state forest), with not a neighbor in sight - the setting will bring you serenity and peace. The interior has been decorated by artists and built by local craftspeople - so you'll feel part of the unique culture of Vermont. Huntington is a wonderful town, close to Burlington, Vermont's largest city, with theatres, restaurants, colleges and great shopping - yet retains its small town charm and bucolic farming tradition.
