MID-WINTER MEMORIES

  • 5 of 5
My family and I are most fortunate to have spent the long Presidents' Day weekend at this comfortable, inviting home. Happy Times indeed!
From the moment you view this private home, nestled at the end of a charming lakeside road, you are pleased. It is even better when you enter the well cared for property. There are the "creature comforts" but the home beckons you to sit and enjoy the ever- changing, wonderful lake vistas from so many seating areas!
My family and I enjoyed the wonderful dining table for enjoyable meals and many fun board games! There are many spots for family gatherings and for some quiet time, as well.
if you want to venture out, there is much to do in the neighboring towns. From shopping to snow sports, everything is just a short drive away.
The owners are most considerate and pleasant to work with.
One of our nights was quite stormy & windy and yet we felt protected and safe in this very sturdily built home!
We look forward to a return visit and we thank the Owners for allowing us to share their beautiful, lakeside retreat!

MUST READ -- HOMEAWAY USER (FL, SC, GA, MA, ME)

  • 5 of 5
My ideal American dream is owning a home by a lake and kicking off the shoes and taking a quick-nap on the back-porch with a book to lay-on-the-belly. I never did finish that book and I didn’t get to sit on that porch either, because we arrived to this wonderful place on Sunday, December 29th just a few short hours after a torrential snow blizzard hit. We were on route 84 in Connecticut coming up from our home on the Jersey Shore when the snow started.

Once you get inside the house, the pictures on the web site don’t give adequate homage to the well-kept appearance and decorative treatments like the Christmas tree with ornaments, lights in the windows and even wreaths outside – this place is like the Country Home magazine real charm.

More important to me is the value. There were lots of priceless moments for picture taking as the niece and nephew from Boston opened their gifts from the wife and I in front of that gorgeous stone fireplace while others gathered in the kitchen area preparing food for the bunch of us. Around in the great-room, all the young adults were leaning over the table with cards tagged to their foreheads playing that guessing game – I don’t know what it is – but they were laughing a bunch. Honestly, it’s the first time in four years I’ve seen my son, who is home from the military on leave, having so much fun hanging out with his cousins.

When it came to preparing the food, everything came out fine. It was like a prep-area in that kitchen just as stuff came off the stove it was served, and there was plenty of room for more than one chef there. All the spices we needed were there and plenty of tin-foil and plastic to keep stuff in the fridge for later. Everyone who came over for dinner on Sunday fell in love with the scenery of the snow over the frozen lake, and there was plenty of everything and something to accommodate all of us regardless of age.

After all the eating and gaming, the guys hustled for a seat on the curvy-couch and watched the Patriots against Miami – you know who won – while the ladies sat around the fireplace and talked about us “probably…” We talked a lot, me and my brother and his son and his grandson, they all have good jobs and wonderful families and we are planning some golf this summer. I did go outside with my niece and nephew a bit to check out that tire swing and we ran around the snow a little bit and did lots of laughing.

I highly recommend this experience to those like me and my family.

CHARMING LAKE HOUSE

  • 5 of 5
We had a great time staying in this home and it had all the amenities needed! The owners, Mark and Maria, were very nice and stopped in on our second day there. They provided a lot of information on the area including things to do, restaurants to dine at and places to see. We loved the outdoor porches and the fire pit outside. The only thing I thought that was somewhat odd was that you are required to make sure the house is relatively clean before leaving, strip the bedding from the beds used and place the used towels in a designated area for housekeeping. Even thought that wasn't a problem, that is part of housekeeping's job and they should be doing it. Otherwise, we had a great time and would recommend this property to anyone that was looking for a nice, beautiful relaxing lake house!

Owner's Response: Maria and I are very happy you enjoyed your stay @the lake house. We are sorry that you feel that stripping the beds and putting the towels in a tub was something that 'housekeeping' should do. We are trying to keep the guests cleaning fees as low as possible and by asking our guests to spend 10 - 15 minutes stripping the beds and placing the towels in a 'designated area' is not unreasonable. We feel our cleaning fees are extremely reasonable and we spend a lot more than we charge for the professional services we provide. We have not increased the cleaning fees since we began renting although the fees we pay have increased significantly.

AMAZING PLACE!

  • 5 of 5
We came from the UK to stay at the lake house for a 2 week holiday after finding it on this website. We can't say enough good things about it! The owners are really helpful and friendly, and advised us via email several times about where to go, what to do, where to eat, any info you could've wanted. They even decorated the house with Halloween decor after I told them we loved Halloween. Our stay was just perfect, the house is amazing, just like in the pictures. It felt like home as soon as we arrived, and we didn't want to leave. We definitely want to come back as soon as possible, but during the summer so we can take full advantage of all the outdoor activities this place has to offer. We fished in the lake, went walking in the woods, played games etc even though the weather wasn't great, as you can't help but want to be outdoors here! It's such a beautiful view to wake up to every morning, you have to pinch yourself that it's real. There are some awesome things to do if you don't mind driving (we love driving in the USA so were happy to drive over an hour for days out) Such as Boston itself, Salem, the Yankee Candle Village, the Alcott house, the John Adams houses, so much we wanted to do we couldn't fit it all in, but you wouldn't even have to leave this house to have an amazing 2 week holiday if you just wanted to chill out. Would love to keep this place a secret so it's not booked up all year round, but it's just too awesome not to share! Oh and we accidentally left some clothes behind, but the owner is kind enough to ship them back to the UK for us, amazing!!! Thanks so much again Mark and Maria, for a dream holiday. We will be back!

"THE LAKE HOUSE"

"The Lake House"

The lake house was perfect. Everything you need is provided, it's clean and comfy. The lake was so much fun, we enjoyed the boats, swimming, and fishing. Every morning a little bunny came to visit and we saw a beautiful heron and eagle. The fire pit was great, we enjoyed an evening in front of the fire and under the stars. Our warmest thanks to Maria, Mark, and their family for sharing their little slice of heaven!
