Mixed Feelings
Ok, to be totally honest, my husband and I had mixed feelings about our stay in this villa.
Pros: The location is absolutely stunning. The villa is beautifully decorated and very spacious, kitchen is well-equipped (a big deal for us because we cook quite a bit), has towels and washing machine/dryer - pretty much everything you'd need for an extended stay. Cindie was really great - extremely nice and accommodating, always available if we had a need or a question. Lovely book of sights to see and directions for getting around the island. Groceries when we arrived on our wedding night were a big plus.
However,
Cons: We've driven in mountainous areas before without a problem, but the drive up to the villa on the mountain on our first night was TERRIFYING and was more like a mountain on Mars. Our car slid around quite a bit and there were times it seemed it was almost completely vertical. Cindy cheerfully guided us there in the dark but her husband was pretty irritable with us, comparing our apprehension to the lack thereof in previous guests; I guess he couldn't imagine why we were having such a problem. It took us at least 30 minutes to get off the mountain and get anywhere on St. Thomas. Shower in the bedroom was much less than pristine. There is an air conditioner unit in both the living room and the bedroom - neither worked and hadn't for years, we were told. Made for an extremely stuffy house and uncomfortably sticky newlyweds. One website for the property said there was A/C (big selling point for us), another said nothing about it. We tried opening all the sliding glass doors for the breeze but somehow the house ended up full of mosquitoes that covered us with bites despite the screens (lovely Cindie provided aloe gel for us). 90% of the condiments in the fridge were partially used (in jars!) and/or a couple of years past the expiration date. Oven didn't work. No iron in the house. Sound system didn't work in the bedroom.
Overall, it was a decent experience, but the villa just had this feel like we were staying in someone's house that really needed maintenance and not a spotless vacation villa meant for guests. A lot of small things were overlooked by the owners of the house that would have had a big impact on improving our stay. Maybe we had the issues we did because it was off-season at the time, but purely based on our experience, I don't know if we could recommend this villa.
Owner's Response: This property is only listed on VRBO and it is not nor has ever been listed with air- conditioning. The house is at 1,200 feet and enjoys cool breezes. If you close the house up, it will get hot. If you don't utilize the screens, the way they were designed, they will not work.
St Thomas is a mountainous island, cars can't drive on vertical roads.
We do not supply condiments, most guests enjoy what is left from another as they don't have to purchase them.
The sound system works in the bedroom if you know how to turn it on.I personally handed her an iron. The oven did break on the first night they were there. We are sorry they never left the house to explore St Thomas. We are sorry they never used the pool.
It is 30 minutes to the fartherest point on the island and 10 min to Magens bay, one of the ten most beautiful beaches in the world. Sunny Regards, Cindie
