We spent an another AMAZING week at the Hill Country Haven last week. We got engaged at the farmhouse last summer. We could think of nowhere more perfect to hold the wedding, so we had a small intimate wedding the first weekend in October. We absolutely love our time at the farmhouse, and now it's even more special to us. Loren and Denise went above and beyond to make our event special and we will be forever thankful to them for providing this location and for their loving hospitality.
We just returned from a little get away to Wisconsin as a family. This farmhouse was one of the best parts of our trip! The reviews and the pictures online were accurate. The owners were so sweet and friendly as they made sure everything was taken care of and said to be sure to let them know if we needed anything. Very clean little place and the new bedroom addition was very nice...we brought a blowup bed to use in that room for extra sleeping as the room was very spacious. It was a beautiful scenic drive to get there and its location was perfectly serene. In the evening we sat out back enjoying a bonfire, listening to the clip clop of several Amish buggies as they drove past. Our teenagers loved exploring the mowed down trails behind the farmhouse and we all went for walks down the country roads. This property did not disappoint...it was nice to unwind and have the teens put their social media aside for a little while. If you are looking for relaxation...then this is the perfect place!!
My husband and I were looking for a nice, quite place in the country, which was pet-friendly, where we could take our dogs so they could enjoy some wide open spaces to run and explore and we definitely found a gem in the Hill Country Haven. The farmhouse was adorable, comfortable, perfectly appointed, and beautifully maintained. The house is perched in the rolling hills and farmland...just beautiful! Once our city dogs got used to the sights and sounds of the countryside (mainly Amish Buggies and Horses and a HUGE un-fenced yard), they loved running around the neatly mowed grounds and taking hikes on the mowed trails behind the house. I loved sitting outside and listening to the birds and the breeze through the trees...it was so nice not even hearing the highway in the distance. Only the occasional car or Amish buggy/wagon would pass by. We didn't have cellphone service or WiFi at the house or even for miles around (we have AT&T), but that makes the Hill Country Haven all the more perfect...it was so nice "unplugging" for a couple of days.
The best part was meeting Denise and Loren and learning about the house and property. Unfortunately during our stay, we discovered that the refrigerator had gone out and Denise and Loren went all the way to Baraboo on the 4th of July to get a replacement! So not necessary, but greatly appreciated. While Loren installed the new fridge, it was great hearing stories about the house and family that have owned the farm for over a century.
I was really sad to come home today and I think our doggies were too. Thank you both so much for the wonderful hospitality and sharing your historic homestead with us! We can't wait to come back...we are already planning on trying to come back for at least 1 long weekend a year. Take care and we hope to see you again soon!
(we were actually here in April or March 2013 but it's been so long that the system won't let me put that)
Had a lovely time here with our two small dogs (we're a couple in our 20's from a larger city)! We went hiking with the dogs at Wildcat Mountain State Park and had a meal at the Hillsboro brewery. Owners were very nice and accommodating. Home is very cute, and the kitchen has everything you could need. The outside area is nice too. Had a great time here.
A fantastic retreat in a beautiful setting. Incredibly clean and welcoming. Everything you need and more. The grounds are beautiful and a terrific way to unwind strolling their many mowed trails. Not too far from Wildcat Mountain State Park and Kickapoo River Reserve both with great hiking. Highly recommended.
We loved our stay. Very relaxing and enjoyable. We loved being around the Amish community. Great location for those wanting to get away from it all for a while. The home is cozy, comfortable, and felt like home. Our dog loved running around and exploring the property with us. The bedroom is gorgeous. The owners were kind and accommodating.
