wonderful lakeside home

We just returned from a week at this beautiful home on Lake Champlain and were sorry to leave. The house itself is a perfect size - plenty of room for my husband and myself and our two teenagers plus our labrador retriever. The views of the lake are spectacular, particularly during the early morning and evening hours with all of the colors of the sky reflecting on the water. We made the trip into Burlington several times (about 45 minutes away) and went antiquing in the Champlain Islands (about 30 minutes away). We also took a scenic drive to Stowe and Smugglers' Notch and just had to stop at Ben & Jerry's and Green Mountain Coffee (in nearby Waterbury). If you do go to Ben & Jerry's, make sure you visit the ice cream graveyard near the parking lot. We also stopped at one of the several wineries in the area - Snow Farm Winery (on South Hero in the Champlain Islands) - but have not yet sampled the bottle we purchased there. We did not have a chance to go to Montreal which is close by but hope to do so on our next visit to Vermont. While we had been to Vermont years ago, we had forgotten how truly beautiful it is - it really is the Green Mountain State! We ate out only once at the Asian restaurant in town which, as Warren said, had delicious sushi. If you do plan to cook a lot, as we did, skip the grocery store in the center of town and go to the Price Chopper which is about 15 minutes from the house, on Main Street. Also, the ferry over to Burton Island is worthwhile and don't forget to try the kayaks. My husband caught quite a few fish from his although they were too small to keep. We definitely recommend Warren and Annie's lovely home.
