Treat yourself to time in a tranquil vacation retreat that has 300 feet of private ocean front with a dock out our back door. The home we call the 'Avalonia” is located on three private acres and only 2 miles to the entrance to Acadia National Park. The two bed room unit is on the second floor and is seperate for the main house. The property is peaceful and charismatic, yet is close to all the attractions that make Mount Desert Island one of the most visited National Parks in the USA. This new contemporary house is located on a picturesque and protected deep water cove where mussel beds and crabs are waiting to provide your dinner.

Arthur purchased this apartment in 1999
We built Avalonia together and we enjoy sharing it.
Great fire pit on the shore Full AC
We stayed for a week while in town for the Mt. Desert Island Marathon, and Avalonia was simply wonderful. The view from the main bedroom windows each morning was stunning and peaceful. The grounds are beautiful and the property is close to everything in Bar Harbor. Arthur was very helpful through the entire process and everything he said about the place was absolutely true. We had a wonderful experience. The place is so cozy and as soon you leave you will want to rush back. Do yourself a favor and book Avalonia if you are coming to Bar Harbor, you will love it so much. Thanks Arthur and Karen for allowing us to enjoy the beauty and splenor of Bar Harbor in the beautiful Avalonia.
My boyfriend, our dog and I stayed in this house for a week this September. Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park are gorgeous, and the house and its location made it all better. This is their vacation home (I'm assuming) with a "side rental house", which is what this house is. It's a bit smaller than our city apartment and if you're an avid cook like myself, you may miss your kitchen, but the essentials are there. We didn't find wine glasses though, so you may want to bring a couple.
The owners weren't home during our vacation, which was perfect for us as we were trying to escape from the busy city life, and well, people, haha
The dock and water just a few feet away were priceless. So relaxing! My boyfriend and dog had a blast looking for crabs under the seaweed and putting them back in the water. Seeing the tide raise and go was nice too. We played horseshoes, our dog fetched the ball, we grilled food almost every day and had tons of lobster during our stay.
The house is 5-10 minutes away from the "busy" Bar Harbor life. We did grocery shopping there. No Whole Foods or Trader Joe's available, but Hannafords is right there.
Acadia National Park is also 5-8 minutes away, just perfect! We will definitely be back.
My wife, 2-year-old daughter and I absolutely loved Avalonia. Great attention to detail by the owners. The grounds were immaculate and beautiful and the lodging was clean, well-equipped and very comfortable. The children's room was a real surprise -- it has everything a young family needs to keep kids entertained (toys, books, stuffed animals, a tent and more). The location was perfect: We were just minutes away from the entrance to the national park, a comfortable distance away from the hustle-and-bustle of Bar Harbor, and mere minutes away from some really great restaurants and fine amenities (IGA, a winery, a playground, and more). If anyone asks us where to stay on Mount Desert Island, Avalonia is the place!
We really enjoyed staying at Avalonia. The apartment was exceptionally clean and was the perfect vacation base for our family of four. The view was amazing and the kids loved exploring the shore at low tide. We enjoyed being in the backyard and relaxing and enjoying the view and amenities. We had a wonderful time visiting Acadia and Bar Harbor and Avalonia was only a few minutes drive from both. We highly recommend Avalonia!
The photos don't do this property justice. We really made the right decision when trying to decide between a cottage in the downtown Bar Harbor area and Avalonia right on Frenchman's Bay. The apartment was very clean and comfortable for my husband and I wiith our 11 and 13-year-old boys.
We only had a week in the area and spent much of our time hiking and biking in Acadia National Park. This was very unfortunate, since I really would have liked more time relaxing on this property as well!! Typically after a week-long vacation we are rested and satisfied, ready to return home and be in our own home...not this time! I really could have used an extra couple of days just to do more kayaking (my favorite thing was to wake up early in the morning and kayak before the kids woke up...lots of lobstermen out at that time!) and to enjoy the beauty of the property and have more campfires!
The apartment was stocked with everything we needed for a pleasant stay. The kids' room was amazing! And I loved waking up to a view of the water each morning - even if the sun did come up super early! I felt rested and energized.
Even though we weren't expecting 85 - 90 degree heat in Maine (we picked a doozy of a week to visit - the heat wave made the hiking and biking a little more of a challenge), the apartment had several big fans and lots of windows to cool things down. That was much appreciated, as it was HOT.
Didn't get the chance to meet the owners, but dealing with Arthur over the phone and via e-mail was pleasant and helpful. I rarely like to vacation the same area twice (there are so many places in the world to see!) but my family and I are for the first time ever considering coming back...we couldn't get enough of Avalonia, Acadia and the Bar Harbor area. That, and asmy husband will verify, I actually cried when we had to leave. THAT'S quite a testament!
Our family LOVED our stay at Avalonia. Great property and location. Gorgeous view and very clean, well-maintained property. We saw a bald eagle and a seal and enjoyed fishing and searching for crabs as well as fires and roasting s'mores. Great, comfortable space with plenty of room for all four of us. Owners are great and quick to respond to any questions. Can't wait to stay here again!
No matter whether your interest is hiking, biking, kayaking, golfing, shopping or just plain relaxing on your patio just 75 feet to the water edge, the location of this house is ideally situated. We provide a gas grill next to the covered gazebo with table and chairs for a great picnic spot, plus an outside shower (with hot water) for a quick rinse after that cool swim in the salt water.
Other Activities: shopping, kayaking, boating, wildlife viewing, rock climbing, mini golf
