Photos and Description of the Custer vacation cabin rental
Cabin, 5 Bedrooms + Loft + Den, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 9-15)

My property is called Elk Valley because it is located on a secluded ridge 100 yards from the Black Hills National Forest. I have a small valley or meadow where Elk, Deer and Wild Turkey live. The Elk come in from the National Forest and water at my pond about 75 yards behind my large 3500 sq ft "cabin." A private service road connects the house and land to Elk Valley Road, which is right off of SD Hwy 89 or "Sylvan Lake Road" a historic Hwy that continues up to Sylvan Lake Lodge, Crazy Horse Monument and Mount Rushmore.

Mount Rushmore is 20 minutes from Elk Valley, Crazy Horse monument is only 5 minutes away. Elk Valley is a magnificent place, secluded yet minutes away from Custer and easy to locate. Mornings are especially beautiful at this unique place which has a spiritual quality.

Keywords: secluded large cabin on 13 acres next to national forest w/horse corral, has small pond, beautiful meadow

About The Owner

I am 55 years old, semi-retired, two adult children. I graduated from O'Gorman HS in 1973, Univ. of Notre Dame in 1977, and USD School of Law in 1983; I love spending time in Custer, South Dakota at Elk Valley, it has a spiritual aspect to it that can only be experienced by going there.

The Owner purchased this cabin in 2006
Why The Owner chose Custer

It was built to be my retirement home where I can keep my horses. Custer County is the most beautiful county in the Black Hills--and that means maybe in South Dakota. It is a tourist town of 2,000 people that services the entire USA and still remaims small and where you want to move to and either retire or raise a family. Custer has 12 churches.

What makes this cabin unique

It is near everything in the Black Hills; It is comfy, restful, and the land is as beautiful as it gets; I have an exercise room, a steam shower, foosball, pingpong, outdoor activities, just about anything you want to do-like camping or making a bonfire in the back yard.

We had stayed at Tim's home last year for a holiday get-together and enjoyed it so much that everyone agreed they wanted to go back again this year. We were not disappointed. Tim made the arrangements so simple for us, and we were wanting for nothing in the way of amenities. Tim's home is truly beautiful and the surroundings are peaceful and relaxing. There was plenty of room for three families, and the kids had a great time playing up in the loft. We highly recommend this home. Thank you, Tim, for the wonderful, stress-free accommodations!

We had a wonderful time over spring break in this home. Tons of space, comfortable furniture, well- appointed kitchen, lots of outdoor space for the kids to explore. It was a pleasure to get away from it all and get unplugged. We highly recommend this home.

My visit to Elk Valley was amazing. The secluded feeling and beautiful property made me feel like I was really on a vacation. I spent hours wandering the Black Hills National Forest which is adjacent to Elk Valley. I must have seen 40 deer in the course of 3 days! Not to mention the Wild turkeys! Great deck view of the meadow was a perfect setting to have my coffee and the fire pit with log seating was an amazing place for a night cap! Beautiful house & land and was fully furnished to boot. I will be going back!

House in the Hills

Nine of us had a wonderful stay at your property in Custer and the Black Hills The accomodations were lovely and comfortable. The property was quite accessable, althoiugh seemed remote when in the house. I loved seeing the deer came out of the forest in the evenings. The forest provided a nice setting for a really nice house. We visited Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse monument, Fort Hayes Chuch Wagon dinner and show, Mammoth Site in Hot Springs and Big Thunder Gold Mine. dn. ..
