Outstanding views, great location, spacious!
This vacation house’s view, spaciousness, pool, and privacy provides families or groups a home base where everyone can gather to eat-rest-play or regroup for your next adventure. Our extended family included four adults plus a 12, 13, and 14 year old. The views change with the position of the sun and the moon. During the full moon, for example, we ate an early breakfast gazing at the moon and dinner taking time-lapse photos of gorgeous sunsets. During full moons, we highly recommend rising early to get photos (from the deck) of the moonlit ocean.
One morning we heard an unusually vocal gathering of birds in the palm tree next to the deck and were delighted to come across six wild love birds who were playing and singing on the palms. Only in a tropical paradise! The house is located at the top edge of a subdivision with a steep driveway – thus, the privacy. All the homes at the top half of this subdivision are very lovely.
In the week we stayed, the temperature was a steady 80 degrees and it was the start of whale watching season. Our activities included body boarding at Big Beach, snorkeling at Makena’s Landing, traveling the Road to Hana to explore Black Beach with a sunset visit to Ho’okipa Point and to watch the sea turtles come in to shore for the night at Ho’okipa Beach, a sunrise whale watching trip with Captain Steve in Lahaina where we saw a mama whale with her newborn plus a few playful adolescent whales, meals at Mama’s Fish House, the Hali’imaile General Store, and the MonkeyPod (highly recommend all), at night at the Old Lahaina Luau (Lahaina) (one of the best!), hiking at Iao State Park, and a group surfing lesson with Maui Surfer Girls (ask for Kelly and Sharkey – highly recommend for all ages, all genders – great educators).
The comments from the November 2013 vacation house renters do bear repeating, as far as pillows needing updates and some light lingering musty smells in areas (the fans mitigate this – so keep them going). Although the trade winds don’t help by blowing dust about, all the furniture, especially the loft and the master, could use some deep polish cleaning to keep it fresh. The house is very clean and easy to keep up with all the supplies available. The flow of the house makes it a perfect choice for a lot of people (think The Big Chill). The house caretakers are a delightful couple: invisible but accessible 24-7.
We HIGHLY recommend this Maui Retreat to you and your group. We are anxious to return!!
