Overview

Tom Nevers Cottage Rental Photos and Description

4 bedrooms (2 master suites), 3 full bathrooms, sleeps 8

Light and airy, Summer Daze is tastefully furnished with classic fabrics, original art, traditional Nantucket baskets handcrafted by the owner, and whimsical touches. The home features a cozy, comfortable single level with an open floor plan incorporating the kitchen, dining, and living areas. The living area is enhanced by a an enormous, private outdoor deck. The Main house has three bedrooms--a master queen with en suite bath, two twin bedrooms, another full bathroom, and a separate laundry room. Attached to the Main house by the deck is a private studio queen bedroom with en-suite bathroom, perfect for in-laws or nanny.

Located six miles (12 minutes) east of downtown Nantucket in the private Tom Nevers East community nestled among the moors, the location is characterized by a calm and peaceful aura, magnificent intense sunsets, and vast night skies. It is1 1/2 miles from the charming village of 'Sconset and its beach and two miles from the quiet, beautiful beaches of Madequecham.

The deck is spacious and private. Furnished with a table with umbrella and six chairs, two lounge chairs and cocktail table, the deck is perfect for entertaining, reading, sunbathing, or snoozing. It is fully enclosed with access to the driveway and backyard through two separate gates. On the deck is a shed housing all the beach furniture, coolers, and sand toys. A gas grill is also on the deck with extra propane available in the garage. Behind the deck is a small herb garden.

The yard surrounding the Main house is fully enclosed with a Nantucket style fence. The house is adorned with eight self-watering window boxes bursting with color. The driveway is large and provides plenty of off-street parking. A flagpole is on sight and we invite you to fly our flags.

Summer Daze is a value alternative to those considering resorts or B&B's on the island. The secluded Tom Nevers area is a serene alternative to the traffic and 'madding crowd' of downtown.

We love our stays at Summer Daze

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at Summer Daze twice--once in September 2012 and again in July 2014. As you can deduce from our repeat stay, everything is as described in the listing. The house is clean, comfortable, with all the amenities one needs (coffee maker, grill, beach towels, beach chairs). The front yard and back deck are perfect for kids to run around and extended family dinners. The house is very convenient to Sconset, but it's also easy to get into town. We would DEFINITELY stay here again and would highly recommend the house to family and friends.

Perfect family vacation house

  • 5 of 5

This was our introduction to Nantucket and it was wonderful! Nancy was there to greet us and explain where we could find beach chairs, boogie boards and beach toys for kids. I laugh that we packed beach towels as the house was fully stocked. In fact, the house has everything you could want - even a kitchen equipped with spices! The house is clearly lovingly maintained. The kids loved the outdoor shower and we all enjoyed the views from the widow's walk. Easy bike ride to Siasconset beach. We can't wait to return to Summer Daze.

Wonderful Rental

  • 5 of 5

I keep coming back to Summer Daze because I love this charming, CLEAN and lovely house. My September 14, 2014 stay at Summer Daze was my second of the summer. I stay one week in July with family, which includes small grandchildren and one week in September with friends. I have been doing so for the last 6 years. All of my visits have been absolutely delightful. The house is always fresh and clean and Nancy is so welcoming. I would recommend this house without reservations.

Family Vacation Ruined

  • 1 of 5

We stayed at this home in July, 2014 and would NOT recommend renting this property to anyone.

The owner advertised a pet free home in the listing, which was important to us because of pet allergies. She then called us as we disembarked in Nantucket to inform us there was a flea problem because she broke her rule and allowed dogs in the home. We were misled about the condition of the rental. In addition to fleas/bugs, there was black dog hair stuck to sheets, furniture and in the refrigerator. We spent our vacation constantly killing bugs (fleas, spiders, flies, etc.) and sleeping in beds where they were visibly jumping around. I washed sheets and vacuumed filthy carpets all week long. This is not a clean rental.

To make matters worse, the owner handled the situation poorly. She changed her story about the fleas and stopped trying to help us find a more suitable rental for our family.

If you are looking for a clean, relaxing, hassle-free rental then this is NOT the place for you. Our family vacation was ruined. Avoid the headache and frustration and pick a different rental in the beautiful, serene community of Tom Nevers.

Owner's Response: Yikes! I tried very hard to address this family's concerns upon their arrival and during their stay. In hindsight, I wish that I had been informed of their allergies. Because I have two Westies, I cannot advertize my house as pet free; "pets not permitted" means I don't welcome other pets. So, this was a misunderstanding, but I can see how this can be misinterpreted. I will clarify this restriction in the future. As for the insects, no one could find any. I arrived the morning after the tenant's evening arrival with my cleaning staff to respond to the tenant's discomfort. We cleaned thoroughly, again (the whole house had been cleaned before their arrival), but found none. Upon further complaints during the week, I called an exterminator who cited in his written report that he found nothing. I have been renting my home for 17 years and many of my tenants return yearly. I strive to offer my tenants a clean comfortable rental with ongoing maintenance and annual upgrades. I am truly chagrinned by this family's experience, but I hope you will read what other guests have had to say about their vacations here.

Great location and Very relaxing

  • 4 of 5

Our family had a wonderful time at this Nantucket 'Jewel Box'. We loved walking to Sconset every morning. There is a widows walk which is a great spot to watch the beautiful sunsets. The house is in good condition and the owners were super pleasant to deal with. We would recommend this property as a great place to stay in season or off season.

A lifetime of memories in this home!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I absolutely loved staying in this well-cared for home! From the tranquil, gorgeous gardens and window boxes, to the spacious deck, we enjoyed every moment of our stay. Tucked away from the center of town, this vacation home allowed us to wake up to the happy sounds of birds chirping and sunlight pouring through skylights. Pristine tennis courts are right across the street and bike paths that go on for miles and sunsets that will take your breath away were enjoyed by my family all week long. This property has been well cared for by the owners and we appreciated the lovely linens and bedcovering that awaited us each night. The privacy and tranquility of this home was exactly what we were looking for on this vacation, and we got everything and more! We are booking our vacation for next year already and we wouldn't stay anywhere else on the island. Without doubt, the best investment you will make.
