Historic Center Apartment Rental Photos and Description

Apartment, 3 Bedrooms + Attached Unit, 2.5 Baths, (Sleeps 5)

This apartment, named 'Achille', has recently been renovated in high detail, and is located in a small piazza in the very heart of the city, just a 5 minute walk east of the Duomo. It is also just minutes from Piazza San Marco and Piazza Santa Croce. The apartment is 1 of 7 in a 17th century patrician building, with at ground level a large entry in the style of that period. Surrounded by shops of all types, it is also in close proximity to a large city supermarket, and the fruit and vegetable market of Sant’Ambrogio. The gamut of excellent restaurants and famous trattorias in the immediate vicinity are unlimited!

“Achille” is on the 3rd floor (no elevator) and measures 123 sq.meters / 1324 sq.ft. It sleeps maximum 5, is fully furnished, and is light and airy. Ideal for a family of 4 or 5. The entry hall leads into a large living room with fireplace and facing north onto a large, sunlit, plant-filled courtyard. The adjoining master bedroom faces the lovely courtyard and has an ensuite bathroom (tub/shower) and independent toilet. To the other side, the double bedroom also faces the same courtyard, and has a bathroom (shower). The additional single bedroom can also serve as a study. The large “sunken” kitchen/dining area is 9 steps down into a charming and cozy ambiance. It has an open-beam ceiling, a high-tech stainless steel workspace with lots of counter space; it includes stovetop, oven, microwave, dishwasher, and fridge with freezer. The dining table is for 6. There is a small laundry/utility room, with washing machine.

The apartment has newly laid hardwood “Doussier” floors and is furnished in an interesting mix of classic and modern styles. Bathrooms are decorated with Stucco Veneziano and have all new fixtures. Thick walls and double-glazing ensure quiet, and thermal insulation. There is central heating, air conditioning, Wireless Internet Access, Digital TV, satellite hook-up and DVD. Kitchenware and linen are supplied. Maid service is available on request.

An independent and fully equipped 1 bedroom apartment, also owned by us and named 'Gea', faces 'Achille' on the same 3rd floor landing, and can be rented together with it, to accommodate a larger group of 7 persons. Please see our website for details. Our Skype buddynames: 'florenceapts' and 'emylina'.

When Emily Rosner took a semester off from her studies at New York University to travel around Europe, she had no idea that she'd end up meeting the man who would become her husband, Maurizio. In 1970 when she arrived, Florence had an exciting atmosphere with the numerous anti-war movements that students were organizing. It was far different from suburban Long Island, where Emily was from. She soon found herself a part of a group of 20 or more students that would meet every night and discuss politics over dinner. Among them was Maurizio. As do many expats who arrive in Florence without a plan, Emily went out looking for work, first finding a job at a disco, and then at a leather shop in Santa Croce.... ----- Article from 'The Florentine' - Oct 22nd, 2009 The rest is history! Maurizio and I got married and had two boys, Jacopo and Arturo. In the beginning, I taught English and developed audio/visual courses to teach English to children. We opened our bookshop in 1979, and it has become a watering hole for the entire Florentine expat community, a must-stop for English-speaking tourists, and an important textbook supplier for foreign study programs. After being in Florence for most of my adult life, I still find time to appreciate the city. I often stop while riding my bike across Ponte alla Carraia, taking a moment to enjoy one of the most splendid views of the river and the city. When I am walking around the city center, I make a concerted effort to look up and notice the details of the buildings. Florence never ceases to surprise me, in all of its beauty!

The Owner purchased this apartment in 1986

In 2007, we decided to move to a hill overlooking the city. This was our home for more than 20 years!

The area is extremely central and lively, restaurants, bars and shops! It is also located in an extremely central position, just minutes away from all major attractions...

A perfect home in Florence

  • 5 of 5
We stayed in Emily's Achille apartment for 4 nights in June, 2014. I am not overstating to say that we fell in love with the place. My husband, two kids (12 and 14) and I stayed in the Achille apartment, and my mother stayed across the hall in Gea, a spacious studio. The apartment's location is simply outstanding. While the Duomo is visible just down the road, less than five minutes walk away, we felt like we could come home to a place that was completely separate from the throngs of tourists.

The apartment had plenty of room for all of us with a spacious master bedroom and ensuite, and a lovely separate suite with two twin beds and a bathroom. My teenager and almost teenager really appreciated the privacy this arrangement offered. The kitchen is gorgeous and very well equipped - almost made us want to cook dinners there, but we couldn't resist the Florentine restaurants. Everything in the apartment was beautifully maintained, and the A/C and wifi worked well.

Emily was a pleasure to deal with from the start. She met us at the apartment on our arrival, and provided us with a list of suggestions for restaurants, gelaterias (very important) and other amenities.

As we were leaving, my daughter remarked that she would like to return to Florence and live in Emily's apartment. A feeling shared by all of us!

family of four enjoyed our stay

  • 5 of 5
We stayed in Achille in early June of 2013. We are a family of 4 (children 10, 13). Our daughter had one bedroom and our son the den. The apartment was as described - clean, modern and exactly what we required.

The kitchen was beautiful - we only used it for breakfast and a lunch or two, but it was well stocked and would be a fun kitchen to cook in!

The location was great - close to the Duomo without being to busy - we walked everywhere from the apartment. We felt very safe here and did not mind the stairs at all - made up for all the gelato we ate!

The bath next to the second bedroom was wonderful - clean and modern. The master bath was also great - only complaint for the entire apartment was the toilet separate from the main master bath...really such a slight complaint!

Our favorite restaurant was just around the corner - Touch - be sure to visit it when you stay here...my husband and I went alone one evening and liked it so much we took the kids with us the next night!

We would not hesitate to recommend this apartment and hope to return one day!

Fantastic Flat

  • 5 of 5
This wonderful flat was “home” to our family of four adults for 17 days over Christmas and New Year’s and we highly recommend it to anyone seeking something beyond the typical futon-couch holiday let. “Achille” is one of the most comfortable vacation apartments we’ve ever rented; it has been lovingly decorated and furnished to create a stylish yet warmly welcoming home.

We wanted an apartment that would allow us to spend time together as a family at Christmas. But we also wanted a place that would provide us with some personal space, too. Achille was perfect in both regards. The living room truly is a living room – it is comfortable and inviting, easily accommodating four adults or more. And the kitchen is amazing. Not only is it fully equipped so that you can really cook, but it is a great space with wonderful reminders that most buildings in Florence have hidden histories all their own. We spent a lot of time together in both rooms and felt very much at home.

As for sleeping/privacy areas, I’d say photos of these rooms don’t really do them justice. We found them much less austere, and more comfortable, than they appear. It was wonderful to have so much closet space – so much nicer than tripping over one’s suitcase. Our adult children were pleased to have their own bedrooms; one had the double room and one the converted television room. Needless to say, having two bathroom facilities for four people was a definite plus.

The location of this flat suited us perfectly and allowed us to feel part of the city. As it is just outside the pedestrian-only area, “Achille” provided a blessed refuge from Florence’s ever-present crowds. Yet everything we wanted to do or see was close by. When we stepped outside of the building each morning, we were greeted by views of the Duomo to our right. To our left, a few blocks’ walk would take us to Santa Croce and on to the Arno.

The neighbourhood around “Achille” is interesting in itself and is a pleasant change from Tourist Florence. A supermarket is close to the apartment and handy for necessities. We also enjoyed shopping at smaller stores, and highly recommend the friendly, helpful and extremely patient butchers in Piazza San Pier Maggiore.

“Friendly, helpful and patient” are words I’d also use to describe Emily, who owns “Achille.” From start to finish, she made everything easy. Simply put, she is a dream host and we feel privileged she and Maurizio allowed us to make their former home ours for a little while.

Lovely home away from home!

  • 5 of 5
Never having rented through VRBO, I was a little skeptical at first, but after my experience with Emily and her beautiful flat, I will always start my accommodation search with VRBO.
We were a group of three adult women who had never been to Florence and we wanted to stay somewhere that was close to everything, as well, had a neighborhood feel. When people say its all about location, location, location...this flat nailed it. We were just a few blocks from the Duomo, you can actually see the Dome from the building entrance. We never took a taxi except to and from the airport and we were able to walk to everything with in minutes. As well, there is a large grocery just down the block. As Emily mentions in the description, there are several flights of stairs, but it wasn't too bad, except that one person in our party just had knee surgery and it was a little difficult, but we were fully informed of the stairs, so we just took our time. If you are physically unable to climb stairs, this flat would be a challenge, but other then that, it is perfect.
We also wanted enough room so we didn't feel like we were climbing on top of each other. Well, Emily's flat fit the bill! The flat is truly spacious and beautifully decorated. It felt like a home, but not cluttered. There was enough storage for our belongings so we could tuck everything away and go about out days adventures. One of the highlights of her flat in my opinion is the kitchen. Most other flats had a small wall with appliances. Emily's flat has a large, beautifully renovated space with current appliances and a dining area. While we planned on dinning out a lot, we ended up making quite a few meals in the kitchen because it was so convenient and intimate. One other plus for us, was a full size bathroom in the Master Suite. It allowed for soaking of our aching muscles after long days of exploring.
This flat was truly a gem to stay in and the owners were so wonderfully accommodating. I will recommend this flat to anyone visiting Firenze.
Grazie Emily and Maurizio your flat is absolutely lovely!!

ideal location, gorgeous apartment, clean, spacious

  • 5 of 5
We stayed here for 4 nights in October 2012 with my wife and two young children (age 5 & 2). The apartment was only few minutes stroll to east of Duomo and easy to walk to main attractions in Florence. Fantastic food and shopping blocks away. The apartment has 2 large bedrooms and a TV room with a convertible bed. We found the apartment to be spacious and elegant. The kitchen is state of the art gourmet appliances, although we ate out every night (hey - we are in Italy!). Definitely would like to come back and stay in the same apartment. Owner was a breeze to work with.

Excellent Central Location

  • 5 of 5
The apartment is walking distance to the train station, as well as centrally located to everything in Firenze. We just happened to meet Maurizio at the front door and he helped us with our luggage up (60+ steps) to the Achille where we were warmly welcomed by Emily. The apartment is well furnished and definitely a welcome refuge after full days of walking all over the city being tourists! Emily provided helpful lists of favorite restaurants, grocery stores, and other services. She made herself available if we had any questions at any point throughout our stay. She is very thorough and we would recommend the Achille to anyone looking for a place to stay in this great city!
