This apartment, named 'Achille', has recently been renovated in high detail, and is located in a small piazza in the very heart of the city, just a 5 minute walk east of the Duomo. It is also just minutes from Piazza San Marco and Piazza Santa Croce. The apartment is 1 of 7 in a 17th century patrician building, with at ground level a large entry in the style of that period. Surrounded by shops of all types, it is also in close proximity to a large city supermarket, and the fruit and vegetable market of Sant’Ambrogio. The gamut of excellent restaurants and famous trattorias in the immediate vicinity are unlimited!

The entry hall leads into a large living room with fireplace and facing north onto a large, sunlit, plant-filled courtyard. The adjoining master bedroom faces the lovely courtyard and has an ensuite bathroom (tub/shower) and independent toilet. To the other side, the double bedroom also faces the same courtyard, and has a bathroom (shower). The additional single bedroom can also serve as a study. The large “sunken” kitchen/dining area is 9 steps down into a charming and cozy ambiance. It has an open-beam ceiling, a high-tech stainless steel workspace with lots of counter space; it includes stovetop, oven, microwave, dishwasher, and fridge with freezer. The dining table is for 6. There is a small laundry/utility room, with washing machine.
The apartment has newly laid hardwood “Doussier” floors and is furnished in an interesting mix of classic and modern styles. Bathrooms are decorated with Stucco Veneziano and have all new fixtures. Thick walls and double-glazing ensure quiet, and thermal insulation. There is central heating, air conditioning, Wireless Internet Access, Digital TV, satellite hook-up and DVD. Kitchenware and linen are supplied. Maid service is available on request.
An independent and fully equipped 1 bedroom apartment, also owned by us and named 'Gea', faces 'Achille' on the same 3rd floor landing, and can be rented together with it, to accommodate a larger group of 7 persons. When Emily Rosner took a semester off from her studies at New York University to travel around Europe, she had no idea that she'd end up meeting the man who would become her husband, Maurizio. In 1970 when she arrived, Florence had an exciting atmosphere with the numerous anti-war movements that students were organizing. It was far different from suburban Long Island, where Emily was from. She soon found herself a part of a group of 20 or more students that would meet every night and discuss politics over dinner. Among them was Maurizio. As do many expats who arrive in Florence without a plan, Emily went out looking for work, first finding a job at a disco, and then at a leather shop in Santa Croce.... ----- Article from 'The Florentine' - Oct 22nd, 2009 The rest is history! Maurizio and I got married and had two boys, Jacopo and Arturo. In the beginning, I taught English and developed audio/visual courses to teach English to children. We opened our bookshop in 1979, and it has become a watering hole for the entire Florentine expat community, a must-stop for English-speaking tourists, and an important textbook supplier for foreign study programs. After being in Florence for most of my adult life, I still find time to appreciate the city. I often stop while riding my bike across Ponte alla Carraia, taking a moment to enjoy one of the most splendid views of the river and the city. When I am walking around the city center, I make a concerted effort to look up and notice the details of the buildings. Florence never ceases to surprise me, in all of its beauty!
In 2007, we decided to move to a hill overlooking the city. This was our home for more than 20 years!
The area is extremely central and lively, restaurants, bars and shops! It is also located in an extremely central position, just minutes away from all major attractions...
