Port Sanilac House Rental Photos and Description

5 bedrooms, 3 full baths, sleeps 18, lake views, 3 levels with game room!

This spacious home on 7 acres with sweeping views of Lake Huron, situated between the quaint villages of Port Sanilac and Harbor Beach. It is the perfect destination for a group or multi-family getaway or reunion on Lake Huron! 5 bedrooms, 3 full baths, sleeps 18, huge game room, and beautiful lake views!

Our 3-story home is located in Forestville, Michigan -- 18 miles north of Port Sanilac and 12 miles south of Harbor Beach. The home is situated at the end of a long private driveway atop a bluff with sweeping views of Lake Huron. The park-like setting includes a sand beach, several lawns and picnic areas, a game room with billiards and card tables, basketball hoop, campfire pits, grills for BBQs, and enough lawn games (and property!) to keep you busy.

The kitchen is spacious and built to accommodate a crowd, with double ovens, an extra sink, plates and cutlery for many, and appliances and cooking utensils. There are 5 bedrooms total (4 upstairs and 1 on the main level), and a full bath on each level of the home. There are 2 queen beds, 6 full size beds, two bunk beds, a pack n' play, and a pullout sofa. Clean bed linens are provided. Ceiling fans throughout the home keep the home airy and cool on warm days. Satellite TV and wireless internet are available during the summer months for those who want to stay 'plugged in'.

The beach front provides access to a shallow bay for wading, though depending on the water level of Lake Huron, access to the water may be limited (bring your water shoes to navigate the typical Lake Huron rocky or mucky bottom). For swimming purposes, the nearby Forestville beach (1 mile away) and Harbor Beach (12 miles north) are great destinations.

When you are fully relaxed and ready to explore, outings to Port Sanilac, Harbor Beach and Lexington are always fun to take advantage of the sandy beaches, playgrounds, museums, quaint shopping, ice cream and restaurants. Harbor Beach boasts a beautiful harbor, pier and marina where you can rent boats.

This area is great for golf (there is a driving range across the street from the home), hunting, fishing, hiking, sailing, water sports, and in the winter, snowmobiling on the extensive trail system.

The house rents from Sunday (check in at 4pm) to Sunday (check out at 10am) unless special arrangements are made with the owners. Weekly rental price varies from $1700-$1800 during the off-season (end-September through mid-May), and $2000 during the summer months. The week of July 4th the house rents for $2500. If you are interested in renting the house for a weekend or for a longer period of time, please be in touch and we will see if we can accommodate. Weekend (2-night) rentals start at $600 in the off-season and (by special arrangement) $900 during the summer months. There is a $200 cleaning fee for all rentals. Pets will be considered ($35 pet fee). There is an additional $25 fee/person/night for groups over 14 people. Please inquire for consideration and prices for groups larger than 20 and special events.

We hope every member of your family or group will feel at home here! Send us a message with any questions and we'll promptly respond! We look forward to hosting you and ensuring your stay on 'the thumb' of Michigan is a relaxing and memorable one!

Why Betsy & Jim chose Port Sanilac

We built this home as a family retreat 'getaway” for our large family (9 sibs!) from the Detroit metro area.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I don’t have too much feedback because we thought everything was just perfect. I couldn’t believe that such a big group of such diverse adults could all be happy in one house….but we were. We loved it, I asked the group and no one could come up with anything that would have made our stay better, it was lovely.

Thank you and I hope to come again.

Beautiful, clean, quiet, secluded. Miss it already

  • 5 of 5
The house and property was as described at booking. There were 28 in our group and we all agree that it was a great fit for us! Some in the group are avid disc golfers so they set up a mini course throughout the 7 acres. Others are runners and enjoyed the beautiful shoreline as they logged their miles. Some enjoyed relaxing on the beach with the kids or hanging out at the campfire all day! Even on the rainy day there was plenty for us to do and we range in age from 16 months-43.

The owners were easy to communicate with and made everything about this booking easy!

Thank you Jim and Betsy for sharing this wonderful place with us...

Perfect for a large extended family stay

  • 4 of 5
My extended family, consisting of 16 people (adults and kids) stayed for a week. Having previously rented 2 to 3 smaller houses/cabins for summer get-togethers, we decided we actually prefer the single house arrangement after staying at this house. Meals and planning for the day were both much easier, and amazingly, we all felt that we had plenty of space with the basement, vast front yard and beach area. The rooms were set up perfectly for privacy, they were very comfortable and cool at night, there were plenty of bathrooms/showers/sinks for all, and the kitchen supplies were plentiful. It was also nice to have the washer/dryer.

Our highlights were:
camp fires and ghost stories every night (a guy up the road sold us a big trailer of cut oak for $10). We appreciated having sufficient chairs in the garage for all of us.
Camping in the front yard for a night.
Kids playing baseball, football and lacrosse in the big front yard - endlessly!
A trip to Frankenmuth to the Adventure Park, a high ropes/zip line adventure course, then big chicken dinner at Bavarian Inn, and driving through the wind farms/windmills through the country side on the way back
Ice cream at the Chill Zone in Port Hope - twice (huge servings for cheap!)
A family "polar bear plunge" at Harbor Beach (the week was a bit chilly!)
Kayaking along the property's beach and biking on M25 (we brought our own kayak and bike)
Afternoon jogs/walks on the paved trail at Harbor Beach, also the Maritime Festival there
Sanilac Petroglyph State Park south of Bad Axe - a guided tour of the glyphs then beautiful hike around the grounds
Lots of puzzles, naps, reading, watching the kids run around, family meals

A couple of suggestions from my family were:
Perhaps a clothes line or drying rack available for swim clothes and beach towels
We loved the downstairs bedroom, but had hoped that the screened-in porch had open screens (there were windows nailed in place still from winter)
The dock was sagging; if we returned we would want to see it repaired (we all understood the crazy winter MI had this past year)
There was debris on the outside of the back of the house - bugs and cob webs, etc. Perhaps a power wash would help? (Although I imagine it builds up again fairly quickly..)

We had hoped to do a 2-3 hour kayak trip out of Port Austin, but the weather never cooperated. There is a longer trail by kayak to Turnip Rock, and I imagine that would be a great day adventure in that area.

Great getaway home!

  • 5 of 5
We had a group of about 20 people and the place was amazing. Everyone had a place to sleep and there was so much room in the front yard for activities and yard games. We had so much fun and would definently come back for another weekend getaway! Being by the water was nice and very refreshing. The only bad thing about the house is all the bugs and Mosquitos! But we understand we are up north and that will happen at any house! Overall this house is a great place and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in renting!

Beautiful views, beautiful home, wonderful hosts!

  • 5 of 5
We stayed with 14 people for memorial day weekend and had a wonderful time. The house is laid out well, and beautifully built and decorated. Very clean and accommodating, there are ample sleeping spaces for several adults or children. The kitchen is made to accommodate cooking for a crowd, never feeling cramped or insufficient.

The grounds are equally impressive, with a simple calming serenity and surprisingly private porches and patio. Watch deer graze through the birches in the front yard, or the sun rise over lake Huron in the back. Descending the steps toward the water yields a calm breeze and a truly park-like setting.

Lastly, Betsy was a terrific host. Her attention to detail and open communication made our vacation less stressful and more relaxing for sure. You will truly feel more like a guest than a customer, an aspect of our stay we will surely not forget.

WOW weekend

  • 4 of 5
We had a wonderful time at your house. The house has great views of the lake and was plenty big enough for our whole group. The rec room was excellent for us all to gather in and the kitchen was well stocked. You could use some ice trays though. The beds were comfortable and lots of extra blankets and sleeping bags if you need them. We will definitely consider returning next year! Al's restaurant in Harbor Beach had good food, and we always enjoy the Stone Lodge in Port Sanilac.

This is a fantastic property right on the lake. We were there in Winter, and the ice in front of the house was truly an experience to walk out to.
