Overview

Glen Ellen Estate Rental Photos and Description

3 bedrooms, 3 full bathrooms, sleeps 10

Newly landscaped and 23 trees felled for expansive views east and north across the Valley of the Moon, south and west from the hot tub to the wooded hills. Sitting atop a bluff, this 3 bedroom, 3 full bath home, divided into three separate pavilions affords everyone sleeping privacy, but brings everyone together in the gourmet kitchen and dining area adjacent to the Great Room, with grand fireplace, a Steinway baby grand, vaulted ceilings and loft. Surrounding the pool are terraced gardens, 21 rose bushes, seven fruit trees and two vegetable gardens, above sits the hot tub. Magnificent views and complete privacy are found on the wrap-around decks from 8 sets of French doors. Radiant heating/cooling throughout the slate floors keeps temperatures perfect.

Just added! A new Viking Pro 6-burner stove top in the Main Kitchen! We hope you love to cook as much as we do!

Secluded Luxury Custom Built 3,000 sq. ft.Paradise: Built in 1994-97, this custom built 3 bedroom/3 full bath home sits atop a bluff affording magnificent 360 views, from north to south Valley of the Moon, to the terraced landscaped gardens and eastern hills. No visible neighbors and lush gardens create true intimacy and privacy. Radiant heat/cooling lies below slate floors throughout, black Brazilian granite counters, extensive custom iron and wood work, ceiling fans. Each of three pavilions is separate and private. 8 sets of French doors open onto wrap-around decks. The architectural designs were specific to natural light and openness, based on Polynesian structures for outdoor living-big decks and generous overhangs. The Great Room-massive fireplace, loft and Steinway Baby Grand. Home is WiFi, and wired for complete or room-specific stereo (inc. pool area), the Master Pavilion has a new 42' LCD TV with Direct TV. The gourmet state-of-the-art kitchen has two large double sinks, center butcher block. Guest Pav. has complete kitchen. We have just added two new Queen beds to both the Guest Room off the great room and the Cottage unit.

Outside the home: One of the 2 owner-builders, a landscape contractor devoted a lot of energy and inspiration to the extensive gardens, the pool area and the entire property. On a hill in the middle of 3 acres, no visible neighbors and lush growth all around creates an extremely private paradise. The terraced gardens are on computer drip systems, including 21 rose bushes, 4 fruit trees (apple, pear, apricot and plum-all incredible for the picking) and two vegetable gardens (1, behind the hot tub). There is also an enclosed dog area. The lap pool (50'X8'X3'-4 1/2' in depth) has a unique feature-'the Wave'; a plastered series of three undulations designed for stretching the back, water covering the ears, but not the face-perfect for zoning out. Magical manzanita and madrone trees intermix with various oaks and wild plum. Each of the massive decks affords different views. The winter rains create a cascading waterfall and pond below the Master Pavilion terrace. Loose yourself in nature and luxury.

The Neighborhood: Glen Ellen is in the heart of the Valley of the Moon, called so for the magnificence of it's moon glow, the hills keeping out the surrounding communities' lights. There are 28 wineries in the near vicinity, some close and safe enough for bike trips. The Valley has numerous festivals devoted to wine, food and the good life. Glen Ellen is just off highway 12 connecting Sonoma with Santa Rosa, both great for shopping/dining/movies, etc.A rich history is provided by Jack London (author of 'Call of the Wild'), including museums, a state park and various saloons and eateries that bear his name. For the bike enthusiasts, there are numerous trails and roads. For the hard-core, a trip over Trinity Road into Napa! The Sonoma Coast is 45 mins. due west. The surrounding Glen Ellen area is a hiker's paradise (Sugarloaf Mtn. State Park, Jack London State Park, etc.) Napa, Healdsberg, the Anderson Valley, the S.F. Bay are close by. San Francisco is an easy hour's drive-combining the best of all!

Absolutely Perfect House for Our Group!!!!!

  • 5 of 5
We had a group of six heading to California from the East Coast for a few days of wine tasting, and we stumbled across this rental during our lodging search. We could not have made a better choice.

First, the location is excellent. The house feels (and is) completely secluded, offering you an escape from the world, and daily encounters with the deer that live around the property. I saw more humming birds than I have ever seen in my life. However, the house is conveniently located near the town of Glen Ellen. Dinning and shopping options are very close by.

Further, the owner was always very pleasant and easy to deal with.

The house is very comfortably furnished -- you really feel as if you are a guest in a friend's home rather than a short term renter. The kitchen has everything you could possibly need, which was great.

I would not hesitate to stay here again!

Loved this gem

We loved staying on site here. The house is very secluded and peaceful and the amenities are wonderful -- hot tub, pool, decks overlooking Sonoma valley. Just incredible. We had just a great time.

Great wine country retreat

  • 5 of 5
Our party of six had a wonderful time in this lovely and comfy home. The house is attractively furnished and decorated, the the views of the Valley of the Moon from its two decks are spectacular. The house is also exceptionally well-located with respect to the sights in the Sonoma and Napa Valleys, Healdsburg, and the Pacific Coast. The owner of the house was a pleasure to deal with. My only two quibbles are 1) that the bedroom off the living room is on the small size and lacks adequate drawer and closet space, and 2) the master bedroom has no doors into either the room itself or its bathroom. But these were minor inconveniences at most. I would definitely recommend the house to anyone interested in visiting the wine country.

Owner's Response: I am very appreciative of my clients reviews. It helps me to make this a better place. Case in point, this last review, I have ordered a new cabinet for the smaller bedroom off the Great room and have cleared closet space.

Because of the design of the house, there are no doors on both the entrance to the Master Suite and the bathroom. This was done intentionally to create a feeling of openness throughout the house. The Master Suite is at the end of a hallway, lying at the bottom of a short staircase, separating it from the rest of the house. But as per this request, I am going to install curtains in both doorways (hallway entrance and bathroom). Thanks treasured clients!

Tasteful and comfortable with amazing views

  • 5 of 5
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this gorgeous and tastefully decorated home. The owner was a pleasure to deal with. I highly recommend this house. We had a great time and made good use of the piano (a Steinway baby grand with great sound!) the fireplace and the hot tub. The pool even got some use (for about 30 seconds, even after sitting in the hot tub it felt glacial, it is February after all ;) But what we enjoyed the most was the feel of the place, and the decoration. The view was spectacular and the location perfect for hiking and wine tasting.

Glen Ellen is in the Valley of the Moon called so for its brilliant night skies as all surrounding city lights are masked by the Sonoma hills and is in the heart of Sonoma Valley known for its wineries (50+), state parks with incredible hiking trails and some of the world's best restaurants. Situated between Sonoma and Santa Rosa we are one hour north of San Francisco. The ocean is an easy one hour's drive away. Explore Point Reyes, head south to the Marin Headlands or north through Bodega Bay ( Hitchcock's 'The Birds' location) to Mendocino and beyond. Just east of us is Napa Valley (our rival and for good reason), Calistoga (the mud baths!), and yet another world of fine dining and wineries. Notes:
As there are no visible neighbors and complete privacy, feel free to roam around the pool and gardens in the all-together. The pool goes from depths of 3' to 4 1/2'. Non-swimming children must be accompanied by an adult. A pool monitor can be provided. The two complete kitchens (the full Guest Pavilion and the Main Pavilion gourmet kitchens) makes it perfect and easy for entertaining large groups. During the rainy season, with the metal roofs and grand fireplace, the Reader's Loft is the perfect cozy hideaway. The horseshoe pit is located east of the Great Room terrace, past the wishing well/fountain. The house is up a steep hill (security gate) from Henno Rd., a paved country road, great for biking to and from Glen Ellen (0.6 mls.). Wellington Winery and others are 0.5 mls. in the opposite direction. Henno Rd. is also great for long walks and running! The hot tub is dormant, but could be activated 60 days prior to stay.
