As you enter the simple stone pillars you will have the opportunity to experience a wonderful vacation retreat and laid back mountain atmosphere. The winding drive will take you past two open meadows leading to our summer home which is nestled on the hill surrounded by 23 natural mountain acres. Enjoy the forested mountain terrain and Ravenswood Lake where you can fish from our shore. The lake is fed by our natural springs and children will love cooling off in the property's creek while catching crawdads.
Built as a rural summer cottage in 1934, the house has been lived in year round since 1945 by our grandparents and parents. Since 2006 we have used it for our vacation home where we have enjoyed the mountain climate.
The two-story house has a spacious living room with working fireplace, flat screen television, and plenty of seating for entertaining. The cherry paneled dining room has a table that seats 10-12 guests. The breakfast room which accommodates 6-8 overlooks the informal cutting garden and is the perfect place to start your day. A full bath with shower is on the main floor. The second floor’s master bedroom has a queen bed and bath with shower and across the hall there are two bedrooms, each with their own bathroom. The first of these bedrooms has a queen bed and the second has a ¾ bed and a twin. The fourth bedroom is an original sleeping porch, now enclosed, with wonderful windows overlooking the terraced back yard. There is a queen bed and a full bath which can also be accessed from the hallway.A well stocked library is two steps down with a queen bed. The sixth bedroom with 2 single beds has a small covered porch with a few rocking chairs. There are rear stairs leading back to the first floor.
The cozy guest house off the wisteria arbor has 2 bedrooms with a set of twin beds in each and a connecting full bath with shower/tub.
We hope you will enjoy our well loved mountain retreat!

What a blessing to spend five wonderful days with our children and their families at The Little Hill! It was great to have everyone together in one place.
When we arrived at The Little Hill on June 19, we found a warm and friendly home decorated inside and out with fresh flowers. The photos on this website showed a lovely property. The actual house and property exceeded our expectations in every way. A fully stocked kitchen with cookware, dishes, utensils, appliances, etc. made meal preparations a pleasure. Having a refrigerator in the kitchen and another in the gaming area was an added plus. The large dining room and breakfast area were the perfect sizes for meals together. The bedrooms provided privacy and were furnished with comfortable beds and linens. Plenty of towels were provided for bathing and for use in the kitchen. The large living room was the perfect gathering place for nightly conversations, games, movies, and music performances.
During the day, we enjoyed the large property and all its amenities. The children enjoyed playing on the trampoline and in the large outdoor areas. The creek was a pleasure as the children looked for craw dads and went wading and the adults joined them to play or to watch. We made a daily walk to the small lake to visit the ducks and geese. The gaming area provided lots of fun and a place for friendly competition during ping pong games and Wii video games. The property was fully and beautifully lighted at night. There was plenty of space for parking multiple cars.
The Little Hill is in a very convenient location with grocery stores, drugstores, restaurants, shopping, and many attractions close by. We felt very safe during the day and at night and we appreciated the presence of a caretaker on the property to address our needs.
Patty Adams, the owners’ representative, was so pleasant to work with and so helpful. She answered all our questions before we arrived and gave us advice about our concerns.
We highly recommend this property. We will definitely return to The Little Hill. In fact, we’d like to make it an annual destination for our family!!
"The best time ever" is a quote from most of the 30+ relatives we had visit your lovely home for a reunion. 9 of us stayed in the home --- VERY COMFORTABLY --- and the rest enjoyed the estate --- kids loved "falling" into the lake, climbing trees, trampolining ---- and along with the adults loved the bonfires, pit fires, playing cards by the fireplace. Every imaginable dish, glass, pot was available for anything we wanted to fix to eat!!! Loved the number of towels available for us to use! My Mother celebrated being 90, and everyone had a place to "hang" after the Birthday dinners. Would do it again in a minute!! THANK YOU. Carol Risley
This was a wonderful location for our family to gather from AL, OH, & NC for Christmas. We loved and enjoyed the warmth & character of this lovely old home. There was plenty of room for everyone even though we were virtually "snowed in" for 3 days. It was lovely. The roads were all scraped and clear. The kids were able to get sleds at the local hardware store and enjoyed sledding down the "Little Hill".We want to come again in warmer weather to see more of the local sights. Thanks for sharing your wonderful home so full of history with us. It was GREAT! !!
First time to Flat Rock and enjoying every minute of it. The Little Hill is an outstanding property with all the amenities one could hope for, including the wireless internet I am using right now and the flat screen TV for the PGA Championship! Just picked my two kids up from camp right near Flat Rock and decided to add The Little Hill on as an added vacation. The property is located perfectly in central Flat Rock with plenty of restaurants and stores near by. When we first arrived we took a complete tour of the property and we were able to see both houses (Main and Guest), the great view of the lake from the house, the rustic chicken coop, and my kids favorite- the lake just down the hill from the house. The interior of the house is amazing and has a great old-time feel with a modern touch. My kids and a friend are staking their claim in the guest house which is there own "fort house" while my wife and I have our choice of a few amazing bedrooms in the main house. My wife is outside reading in the hammock and we are about to eat dinner under the outside porch. Then we are on our way to play horseshoes just out back and get the campfire started very soon. Can't wait for next summer to make the same trip!
Just got back from The Little Hill a few days ago. I had a birthday party with 8 of my closest friends and we couldn't have had a better time! We spent our days at the lake and our nights around the campfire singing and dancing. We went into Hendersonville for dinner one night at El Paso and it was FABulous. We also got to climb Glassy mountain which was just a short walk from the property! We hiked to the top and had a picnic for lunch while enjoying the beautiful views. I've never been to such a comfortable and "home-y" house, we felt so welcome and everything was ready for us- wonderful beds and linens, lots of towels and a well stocked kitchen! We cannot wait to get back there and make this an annual get together!!!
I met with six college friends at the Little Hill. We had the best time...so much to do!
We hiked and had a picnic at Dupont State Park. We saw the beautiful waterfalls and scenery.
We stopped by Bevard to shop at a lingere outlet and had a yummy lunch at the Soda Shop.
We loved the Flat Rock Playhouse, where we saw a fabulous production of The Producers.
Great friends, great accomadations, great atmosphere...we will be back!
We are in the center of Flat Rock! Walk across the street to The Village Cafe,The Wrinkled Egg Gift Shop with the Flat Rock Bakery, and Hubba Hubba Barbeque which was featured in Southern Living last summer for the best BBQ around. It is a short walk to the historic Old Post Office(c.1848) which houses the Book Exchange and serves as headquarters for historic Flat Rock, Inc. Continue your walk to Carl Sandburg’s Connemara which is a National historic landmark and hike up Glassy Mountain for a scenic view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. On your way back, visit the Flat Rock Playhouse for the matinee or stop off for a movie at the local cinema! On a hot summer day, head down the mountain for tubing and kayaking on the Green River which is just 30 minutes from our home. For an incredible hiking experience, head northwest to DuPont State Forest which is a 25 minute drive and you will enjoy swimming under fabulous waterfalls. Our home in Flat Rock is also conveniently located in the center of western North Carolinas extensive summer camp programs and down the street from Bonclarken Presbyterian Assembly and Kanuga Episcopal Assembly. Take a day trip to Asheville (30 minute drive) and visit the Grove Park Inn for a fabulous meal and the best Spa in the area. Brevard is also just a 30 minute drive and the Brevard Music Center is a must. The best musicians from all of the world will entertain you.
