Holmes Harbor Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cabin, 1 Bedroom + Den, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2 to 3 people only)

New (2010) cabin nestled among Douglas Fir trees and mature landscaping. Verde fire granite countertops and real hardwood floors throughout with big picture windows make this vacation home feel as if it is part of the natural setting. Trails around property and to the beach. Private barbeque and outdoor fireplace to sit, relax and share a glass of wine.

Horses, sheep and goats frolic in nearby pastures while two Golden Retrievers will gladly show you the way to the beach trail and stairs.

Bring your boat (up to 16')or kayak and launch it at our private community boat launch on generally calm Holmes Harbor. Crabbing and fishing are great!

Bicycle riding is a must on Whidbey as well.

About The Owner

Steve and Laura Strehlau have owned their property on Whidbey Island since 1989. Their log home has been featured in local magazines and their garden has been on the Whidbey Island Garden Tour in 2007 & 2011. This newly built cabin (800 sq ft) is located on the six acres on which their log home is situated. They share their time between their home on Whidbey Island and their home on Maui. They also love to travel and meet new people throughout the world. Animals are a big part of their lives with sheep, goats, a cat and two Golden Retrievers sharing their home.

The Owner purchased this cabin in 2010

Why The Owner chose Holmes Harbor

With over six acres of forest and beach, we wanted to share our land with others who want a bucolic setting for a vacation. Our vacation rental has just been completed (spring 2010) and is landscaped and ready for more guests. The home is bright and airy though it is located in a stand of 2nd growth Douglas Firs and Western Red Cedars. It offers both the woodlands and the beach, making it an ideal vacation rental. The setting is extremely private and quiet for a retreat like atmosphere. Trail and stairs meander thru huge evergreen and fern filled forest to our secluded beach.

What makes this cabin unique

Beach walking, crabbing in season, salmon fishing and picnicking are just some of the many outdoor activities here. We have even been awakened by barking sea lions and viewed grey whales in the Harbor on occasion. Bald Eagles fly on currents and deer are regular visitors. Being close to Seattle and Everett, Whidbey Island is an ideal getaway for anyone looking for a tranquil weekend or longer vacation. Our village of Langley offers excellent restaurants, shopping, art and entertainment and is only six miles from our door.

Your own private beach

This place was perfect. It has all you need for a weekend getaway. There was no coffee when we got there but hey those things happen. We just drove into town for one in the morning. It had its own video and cd library which was great after a walk on the beach to be able to snuggle in the cutest den ever to watch a movie. I will most definitely recommend. We drove around the whole island all the way to deception pass and back stopping at all the quaint little towns.

What a treasure! A perfect weekend getaway.

  • 5 of 5

I spent untold hours/days looking for the right place to take my husband for a surprise birthday weekend. I was impressed with the photos and reviews for Heron's Roost--but could it really be as good as it sounds? No. It's better! A delightfully decorated cottage surrounded by forest foliage and whimsy. There's everything you need and then some. In just a short time I could see work stress dissolve completely from my husband's face. It was the perfect choice for a weekend away. The stairs down to the beach access are an adventure all their own. Two beautiful golden retrievers were very welcoming. And it's quite a treat to visit the special goats and sheep. This is SO much more than renting a cabin in the woods. Dave, the caretaker, is kind and helpful; and there was great communication with the owners, Laura and Steve.

I've already told friends to plan a trip here. We'll certainly be back!

Thank you!

Lauren

Fairytale cabin for a getaway with the kids

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a short getaway with the kids (ages 4 and 7) and the dog. When we arrived at the cabin it was like walking into the pages of a fairytale. The cabin was cozy and had everything you could need. But the outside grounds were a haven for the kids and dog. We must have scrambled down to the beach 8 times in two days and even watched a bald eagle pick up a crab and eat it within 50 yards of us. The quaint signs, the sheep and goats, the colorful chairs and gazebo - the kids loved it and we won't forget it! It's simply a magical retreat!

Cozy Cabin in Serene Setting

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful getaway in beautiful wooded setting with beach access. "Cozy cabin" is a perfect description of this newer one bedroom cabin. Very clean with all the comforts of home. Owners take care of the cabin and are nearby if there are any needs. Pet friendly so we were able to enjoy having our dog with us. Enjoyed nearby double bluff beach and walks through nearby towns of Freeland and Langley. Be sure to get homemade pies at nearby Greenbanks farms. Looking forward to staying at this cabin again!

Perfect retreat to rest your mind, body and soul.

  • 5 of 5

Having had a very busy year last year, with a move to BC from WA and back to WA, a change of jobs for both my wife and I, and no real time off since the summer of 2013, we were very much in need of a rest and a break from our daily routine. The Roost was the perfect place for that, where the only sounds we heard form within the cabin were the rain and the wind in the trees. Outside the cabin was tranquil too with the chirping birds happily enjoying the natural ecosystem around the property, and the abundance of native landscaping and wee trails through the forest down to the beach made stretching the legs a pleasure everytime. Laura and Steve were quick to respond to any question and Dave the caretaker was so friendly; bringing us kiln dried cedar to have a fire on the second day we were there. I have too many good things to say about it but the best way to give it the thumbs up is to say we'll be back there as soon as we can!

Quiet and beautiful resting place

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect place to celebrate a Valentine's Day Birthday. The floor plan has been well thought out to accommodate different activities simultaneously, i.e. reading, TV, sleeping, games, enjoying the view. Being able to enjoy the huge trees from every window, the extensive patios and professional landscaping just thoroughly enhance the beauty of the well appointed décor. The kitchen is gorgeous and functional and supplied with beautiful table settings. This is a top of the line place for rest and reflection.
