About The Owner

I moved to the Missoula area in 1986 to attend the University of Montana. I have always been drawn to the area because of the abundance of hiking, fishing, and skiing opportunities. Missoula is nestled within the Rockies and lies directly south of the Rattlesnake Wilderness. The climate is mild (most of the time) compared to the rest of the state, and we enjoy plenty of sunny days. It's been 24 years now, and I'm still here. I married my wife Jen soon after college and we embarked on the family journey together. After spending roughly 15 years in the AEC industry as a draftsman, IT director and CFO of Eclipse Engineering, in 2009 I decided to pursue a career in river and fly fishing guiding.

The Owner purchased this house in 1996

Why The Owner chose Missoula

I purchased this home 14 years ago because of the quiet neighborhood and abundance of activities in the area. I love to fish and the proximity of the Clark Fork River, Blackfoot River, and Rock Creek mean that I'll never have to waste time deciding where to fish.

What makes this house unique

One of the best features of this property is the mountain and woods behind the house. There is a nice view of the Upper Clark Fork River from above the property and you'll enjoy the beautiful garden. This house is newly remodeled and the bath/shower is tiled and has radiant floor heat. You are literally just minutes from both the Clark Fork and Blackfoot rivers and only a short 5 minute drive into Missoula.

Immaculate, Private and Quiet

  • 5 of 5
My wife had outpatient surgery and, her doctor wanted her to be less than 20 minutes from his office the first night in case there were complications (we live in Superior, Mt- about an hour from Missoula). We try to avoid motels, so I started searching for an alternative. My Internet search found the perfect lodging. Owners Mark and Jen were flexible and accommodating. The Trout Bungalow was immaculate, private and quiet. Visitors even have their own carport with a private entrance. My wife, in spite of her discomfort, enjoyed the stay. The cabin has been updated and is nicely decorated with a fishing theme. There is also a wall decorated with classical record album covers from the "good old days." As a music lover, I especially enjoyed this unique touch.

Very good value. Clean, quiet, comfortable, safe lodging. Everything clean, neat, & up to date. Bed was very comfortable. Only two minutes to I90, & ten minutes tops to center of MIssoula. Of course you are only minutes away from some of the finest trout fishing in western Montana...the Balckfoot, Clark Fork, Bitteroot, & our favortie, Rock Creek. I would recommend to anyone.

Best Montana Trout Fishing Experience Ever!

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I have had a fascination with fly fishing in Montana for years, and decided to take our first trip there this past Spring. We chose the Trout Bungalow because it was very reasonably priced, located centrally with regards to local trout streams (only 5-10 minutes from downtown) and the reviews were excellent. Though the place clearly doesn't look like a luxury accommodation from the outside, the inside is awesome! It has been remodeled with impeccable attention to detail and our favorite part was that it is totally decked out with trout regalia. We stayed for a week and were very comfortable there. It was clean, quiet and well appointed with everything you need.

We were also pleased to find out that owner, Mark, is an excellent fly fishing guide. I had intended to hire a guide, so having those services available in house was very convenient. I fished for a few days by myself and Mark gave me great advice on how to access local streams and flies to try. Mid way through the week, I hired Mark to take me to the Missouri River for a day of fishing on his drift boat. It was the most incredible trout fishing experience of my life! We fished for 8 hours and he put me on fish all day. I was pulling in one huge rainbow after another. He took lots of photos and sent them to me the same day so I could brag up my catches via email to friends back home. He also stopped at lunch time and cooked up a great meal. It was a day I will never forget.

The real strength of the Trout Bungalow is the service. It is truly amazing. Mark is pleasant, courteous and attentive. Before, during and after the trip, he was great. Prompt responses before the trip as we made our arrangements, checking in with us regularly to see if we needed anything, the Trout Bungalow hat that he gave me the morning of the drift boat trip, bringing us boxes and packing tape 5 minutes after I called him at 7pm and interrupted his family dinner (we bought too much Montana art and had to mail it home), and sending me a framed photo of one of me holding a huge "Bow", after we arrived back in Ohio. Mark really gets how important service and attention to detail is. It was one of the best travel service experiences we have ever had, and we travel extensively.

I cant recommend the Trout Bungalow enough. We will surely return when we go back to Missoula!

Great Accommodation, Great Hosts and Great Fishing! We'll Be Back!

Great Accommodation, Great Hosts and Great Fishing! We'll Be Back!
  • 5 of 5
My college buddy and I (we're in our late 20s) stayed at the Trout Bungalow for four nights in August 2012 and had a great experience. The accommodation was comfortable and had all of the amenities we needed for our stay. More importantly, though, Mark was an excellent host and fly fishing guide, who went above and beyond to make our trip a very memorable one (e.g. shuttling us between Bonner and Missoula). The days on the river were great, and we feel fortunate to have had Mark as our guide: he was easy-going, had a great sense of humor, and enabled us to hook into to some really nice cutthroat. All-in-all, I would recommend the Trout Bungalow for anyone looking for a great Montana experience with excellent hosts. We will be back.

We loved it!

  • 5 of 5
We enjoyed our stay at the trout bungalow very much. It was very tastefully appointed, fresh and clean. We particularly enjoyed the great kitchen and deck. There was a new gas grill on the deck, and a great seating area where we usually ate our dinner. It was wonderful to be able to sit and enjoy the Montana outdoors! We made good use of the washer and dryer (also brand new, I think). Even though we rarely needed it, we found that by turning on the air conditioner in the bedroom, it cooled down the whole place. We found the location to be very convenient to Missoula. We highly recommend the trout bungalow!
