KENAI RIVER HOUSE

Soldotna House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms + Detached Unit, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

This home is situated 34 feet from the bank of the world famous Kenai river. It is located 200 yards downstream from the confluence of the Kenai and the Funny river. It is situated in a prime fishing area on the Kenai river and it is yours to enjoy. Fishing for reds and silvers can normally be done immediately in front of the home from the waters edge with hip-boots.

Kings can be fished by boat upstream and downstream from the home during the season. A huge cedar deck, with benches, chairs and a picnic table fronts the property and runs along the river. Enjoy the peace and quiet, sit and watch the river, the wildlife, or others in your party fishing. Enjoy your own private fire pit in the evening while you relive the day's events.

The home is located in a small subdivision 11 miles from Soldotna. It has a quiet secluded atmosphere especially since the entire opposite bank of the Kenai is undeveloped. A golf course, open to the public, is less than 1 mile away.

If you just want to 'mellow out', enjoy the lower deck with the tranquility of the river flowing inches away, or if you are looking for a base of operations, then this is the place. This home is centrally located on the Kenai Peninsula; 15 minutes from Soldotna, 30 minutes to Old Town Kenai, one hour to either Deep Creek/Ninilchik or the Russian River and an easy two hours to either Homer or Seward.

My wife and I spent 20 years in the military with a three year assignment to Alaska from 79 to 82. We retired in 1985 when an opportunity arose to return to Alaska and pursue a position in Anchorage. We lived in Anchorage, with frequent trips to the Kenai Peninsula for another 24 years. Our three children attended high school in Anchorage and then colleges outside. They are now outside with their families but we are still here. During our years in Anchorage we were always going 'South' to the Kenai /Soldotna area for recreational purposes. We found this home in 1996 and have enjoyed it ever since. It is now available for you to enjoy!

Tom & Lois Mushovic purchased this house in 1996

We purchased this property with the intention of eventually using it as our retirement home. In 2007 we started building a log home on an adjoining lot. It was completed in 2009 and we moved To Soldotna, We are now offering the listed property as a vacation rental. We love the area, the closeness to the riv,er and the frequent opportunities to observe the abundant wildlife. We love the opportunity to fish with family and friends without the crowds so common elsewhere. You will too!

We enjoy the seclusion and the many recreational opportunities in the immediate area. The fishing is great and the opportunities to observe the local wildlife are frequent. During the summer the gulls and eagles are ever present and we enjoy watching them scouring the river for a treat. Moose, bears, lynx, wolves and caribou also frequent the surrounding area.

Our July home past two years!

  • 5 of 5
I can't say enough about how much we loved staying here. The house is very comfortable and has everything we need. We usually have a couple friends come in during the month but plenty of room for family. We have enjoyed the familiarity of being with friends each year. Tom & Lois are readily available without intruding and always have information to offer on what's going on in the area. Whether that means it's BINGO night or that wildlife has been spotted in the area. Our family enjoyed the close proximity to the water and the convenience of not having to fight the crowds. We would definitely recommend this property to anyone that wanted a home away from home!

Visit to MARC

  • 5 of 5
We were visiting MARC at the Soldotna airport for a couple of weeks and needed a home for four adults and two small kids.
We found the home to be impeccably clean, well maintained & well equipped for cooking, bedding, etc.
The online pics don't do the home justice. It's very spacious, has a fantastic view of the river (which really is just a stones throw from the porch), and is quite accommodating for families.
All of the amenities worked properly, to include outdoor grill, showers, stove, oven, etc.
Tom and Lois were very accommodating and flexible, and even went out of their way to find a pack-n-play with bedding for our 1 year old.
Tom promptly answered questions prior to arrival and during our stay.
Tom was also gracious to provide some fishing/clam digging equipment and local knowledge of where to go.
The home is about 15 min from Soldotna which makes runs to the store a bit long, but Tom & Lois are happy share what they have to save a trip to town. Though, if you do have to go in, the drive is scenic.
I'd happily recommend the home to couples and/or small families.

Alaska Adventure

  • 5 of 5
Very nice accommodations in a stunning location. Great fishing in the area...we caught three different species right off the property. Tom and Lois are very accommodating and do a great job keeping the property clean, comfortable and very homey. Would recommend to anyone interested in a first class Alaska experience.

Great Place to Stay

  • 5 of 5
My husband, myself, my brother and his wife stayed at this property in late August. Our main purpose was to fish and enjoy the scenery. This place was wonderful! The location was perfect, right on the river, not too far from town, but not too close. The house had everything we needed. It had lots of room so 4 adults neve felt cramped in. It was nicely decorated and had such a comfortable feel to it. The hosts, Tom and Lois, were so helpful. They gave us fishing tips and advice on the area. It was so nice having them next door. We would all recommend this property! This is a 5 star property!!

Great location and a great place to stay. We enjoyed are time here very much and the house had everything we needed. It's quiet and away from town, but not too far. There is also a handy convienence store about a mile down the road near the golf course. Tom and Lois are fantastic hosts. Hope to return and stay again.

Home Away from Home

  • 5 of 5
My husband, mother-in-law and I stayed in this house for a little over a week. We had went shopping prior to checking into the home. I knew right away that we had over bought for this home. It has everything!! Kitchen was very well stocked with pots & pans, dishes, cleaning supplies, etc. As we went around the house, we discovered the pictures on VRBO did not do it justice. What an AMAZING view!! the rooms were so spacious and the beds were very comfortable. The house was spotless and it didn't take long to see that Tom & Lois took excellent care of their home. They were so hospitable and offered their assistance in anyway possible. We were able to see a lot of wildlife along the road to Soldotna. Tom & Lois, thank you for making our 10 year Anniversary one to remember! You home was such a blessing to us and allowed us to travel all over an view Alaska. It was the perfect hub to go and play during the day and come home and fall into the bed. I definitely would stay here again and recommend anyone that is looking for a great house in a very convenient location to consider staying in this beautiful cabin. We went shopping, fishing, cruising, hiking, sightseeing and took plane rides to see Alaska. You can do that and so much more!! Awesome owners and awesome place to go. Thanks Tom and Lois for sharing your home. It truly was our home away from home.
