Hello, my name is Villa Montalto and Joe and Cindy are my owners. I have been their dream for over 20 years and they finally brought me to life. They only get to visit me 5 - 7 days every 6 weeks since they have a bed and breakfast inn located in Gainesville Florida and that takes up much of their time and energy. When they come to stay with me, I know they are relaxing.
I have a gourmet kitchen that makes anyone who likes to cook drool with pleasure. Since Cindy and Joe know the hospitality business, they have thought of everything when furnishing and finishing me. They iron the sheets and supply you with lots of big fluffy towels. They also keep the kitchen stocked with spices and condiments including coffee set up so all you need to buy is your perishable and cook away. There is a 50 inch high def TV in the great room with a supply of DVD's and comfy leather couches. I have a spectacular view from everywhere you look. Joe and Cindy like to cook dinner and eat out on the deck and watch sunset. In the mornings, they wake up, make their coffee and take turns deciding which porch, deck or screen room to enjoy.
You see, when you come visit me, you never want to go anywhere. You may feel like a quick hike but mostly you just want to relax when you stay at the Villa! Come rest awhile...I know you need the break.

Joe and Cindy own and operate a Bed and Breakfast Inn located in Gainesville, Florida. They met on a blind date when they were 16 years old. Six years later, when Joe was attending The University of Florida, they married. After 15 years, they moved back to Gainesville and opened their Inn. Cindy runs the Inn and Joe quit corporate America and opened his own engineering office.
The Owner purchased this lodge in 2006
In the 1980's when all we could afford for a vacation was a camping trip, we received a brochure from Big Canoe inviting us to take a tour. We figured we were heading to the mountains any how and taking the tour would give us a few days out of the tent. We fell in love with the area and we bought 2.5 acres. We spent the next 20 years dreaming of the house we would built.
This is not your typical rental. Everything is high quality and much more than just furnished. We know hospitality and have made sure that you will know how to make the most of your trip.
I just wanted to comment on what an EXCELLENT home to visit and enjoy. Cindy was nothing but accommodating, easy to work with, and beyond helpful in all matters! We LOVED her house, it's location within Big Canoe, the privacy, the overly stocked kitchen and bedrooms...It was perfect! They even had baby gates (though for their dogs), what a pleasant and much needed surprise!!! Thank you so much Cindy for allowing us to rest and relax within your most amazing home. You truly do own a piece of heaven within Big Canoe. Thanks again!
We spent four gorgeous weekends at Joe and Cindy's beautiful mountain home in Big Canoe between the falls of 2012 and 2013. We can't rate their home highly enough -- it is gorgeous and comfortable as well as close to the amenities at Big Canoe. The stackstone fireplace is massive and spectacular and the views from the windows and deck are amazing. The next time we will return as friends -- we have purchased our own little cabin in the mountains!
If you love nature, relaxing, visiting adorable small towns and sampling the wines of the area, a little hiking, and seeing plenty of wildlife, this is the place for you. It's okay if you make believe it's your own house while you stay because you love it so much at first glance. Play board games or cards, do puzzles, watch TV and DVDs, play on your computer (free wi-fi), read, rent a boat and go out on the lake, enjoy a fire in the winter, sit on the porch and watch the world go by - the possibilities are endless. This is the PERFECT place to get away from it all but still have IT within a short drive if you miss it. But in this house, you won't miss anything!
Great location, very clean and spacious, whole family had a wonderful time. Would definitely rent from Cindy and Joe again!
Villa Montalto was simply amazing, wonderful and truly restful. A majestic mountain view with all the comforts in place to enjoy the R&R we were looking for. There are so many amenities in the area to enjoy (lakes, golf, hiking, fishing, shopping, et al.) or you can do absolutely nothing and soak in the sounds and sights of wildlife with all of natures' glory and peaceful surroundings in the North Georgia Mountains. A true getaway! Owner's indeed have thought of everything. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home and for making us feel comfortable and welcome. We are looking forward to a return visit in the fall.
This mountain lodge is PERFECT: beautiful and comfortable perched high in the mountains with great views. Very peaceful and quiet. Our stay was relaxing, yet just minutes from hiking, excellent tennis facility, great golf, beautiful pools, lakes and waterfalls. We can't wait to return to Villa Montalto and agree 100% - Joe and Cindy have thought of everything!
Gibbs Gardens is a wonderful 300 acre botanical Garden with walking paths, ponds, one of the largest Japaneese gardens and a wonderful little cafe. If you enjoy gardens, you will not want to miss this one. Mr. Gibb is a Landscape Architechet but he is a brilliant artist and his canvas is his land.
