Guestbook comments from the manager

We love to camp & fish & sun, so this is the perfect place! One of my daughters said it was like camping & being in a lake cottage all at the same time (with a comfortable bed at the end of the day). The girls fished a lot, swam & enjoyed the boats. Thank you!!!

A Lovely Paradise

  • 5 of 5
The two of us, and our two dogs, enjoyed our stay so much...our only problem was that we should have stayed longer. The farmhouse is just wonderful...so well-kept and with everything anyone could possibly need. We were greeted with a vase of Michigan wildflowers on the dining room table and the breeze from the lake came into the open windows. I loved it! The lake itself is ideal for swimming, boating and fishing, and the hike down to the lake, plus the swim out to the floating raft, were some wonderful fitness tools for my sixty-year old body. I have not felt this relaxed for decades! The whole nearby area is a vacation paradise, too, with lanes to walk down that were strewn with plants and wildflowers, and even deer at dusk. The Irons Cafe has the best homemade sauerkraut soup I've ever had anywhere, and the store in nearby Dublin is a place you can find anything and everything. The Sweet Fern Emporium is a wonderful place to buy pretty handmade gifts. All in all, I enjoyed this more than I can say and can't thank the managers enough for their kindness in helping to find our crazy dogs when they ran off for a bit. This was an absolutely wonderful vacation!

5 bedroom farm house on the lake

  • 5 of 5
Our family had a wonderful time. The place was clean and ready for us upon arrival. We called the next day for firewood and it was delivered within 2 hours. Some well seasoned red oak (bring a splitting tool) for a decent price. The floating dock was a hit with all. The water was clean and warm. The local bait shop had all we needed and the store in Dublin (10 minutes away) had about anything you needed from marshmellows to ammunition.
The fishing was good and the paddle boat, fishing boat, and canoe got used a lot. The hill down to the lake was a bit much for me and a handrail would have helped. I'm overweight and weak knees so the trip down was worse than going back up but I enjoyed myself up top and the younger ones used the water. It was an excellent week with only one rainy day which the board games in the entertainment center got used a lot. The owner was very accommodating and helpful. The house was complete. All you need is your food and clothing. A#1

Wonderful place for our family

  • 5 of 5
Our family of 9 (ages 18 mo to 66 years) vacationed for a week this summer. The farm was great for the kids to run around; we rented kayaks and paddled through all the connected lakes; had campfire every night; did a little fishing; had ice cream multiple times at the emporium . . . it was peaceful, relaxing and beautiful! We'll return again!!

Owner's Response: So glad you enjoyed your stay! The seclusion of the Farmhouse is one of it's attractions for families, especialy with little one's like you're blessed with! Really appreciate the "heads up" you provided for the minor problems you encountered. It's difficult to spot leaky faucets when clenaing! Looking forward to hosting you again any time, it was a pleasure to meet you! Rose & Jim, Mgrs.

Perfect for Families

  • 4 of 5
Towering trees, rustic out buildings and plenty of room to romp inspired lots of creative play during our week at the farm house cottage. Four generations (ages 2-72) had a great time.
Beautiful clear lake with great fishing. Our little granddaughters loved swimming once they got used to all the nature (little fishies, crayfish, oak leaves, turtles) they were sharing the lake with! We pitched a small tent so they could "camp", complete w/ s'mores at the fire pit. Did day trips to Ludington and to Dublin General Store for their incredible selection of home made jerky. The cottage had everything we needed but was simple and basic - perfect for an active family with small children. New Queen Bed downstairs - Thanks Rose! The managers are awesome, very helpful and the property was clean and well supplied. The location is lovely, private and quiet. We were very comfortable but would recommend the owners consider installing A/C for summers that aren't as moderate as this one.

Peaceful Retreat

  • 4 of 5
We had a large group of 6 adults and 8 kids under 8 stay for a week. The 5 bedrooms are nice. 4 of them are large enough for a pack n play to go in the room. One of the rooms is too small for that. The kitchen was stocked well (except for muffin tins and a few more baking dishes could be added). The living room is small, but we moved the coffee table and there was plenty of room for the kids to play on the floor. The two bathrooms on the first floor were adequate. The yard space is amazing. We ate almost all of our meals on the deck at the two picnic tables. The kids had plenty of green grass to play games and run around on. There was always shade and sun available at some spot in the yard, which was fantastic for different needs. The kids had fun riding their bikes along the circular gravel driveway. The lake is a steep climb down, but the water was cool and the swim dock was enjoyable. We brought kayaks and were able to kayak through the chain of lakes to 4 different lakes. The first pass through under a bridge is narrow and you have to duck. I would think attempting it in something other than a kayak would be difficult.

We did have water issues at the house. One issue was a water pressure issue. We weren't able to run two water things at once without losing pressure at one of them. The washing machine would have to be stopped to take a shower and we couldn't take two showers at the same time, which made evenings tricky. We also noticed the decrease when we had the hose in the yard running and water in the sink running. We did have a large group though. There was also a leak in the bathroom with the tub that made the shower unusable. Using the shower caused a lot of water to get on the floor, which meant more cleanup and towel usage. The managers were aware of the problem and were working on fixing that issue, but it was a pain while we were there. There are also dead limbs and trees on the property that should be cut down. We had a tree fall in the yard during a huge storm at 5 am one morning. It crushed our picnic table and was pretty close to hitting the house. The managers arrived within hours and were quick to clean up the tree so that it would not be in the way. The same storm system knocked out the power, and again, the managers were quick to arrive and tell us it should be on soon.

A store within 5 minutes has beer and ice cream. Ludington is close. It was a peaceful week.

Owner's Response: So glad you and the children enjoyed your Farmhouse vacation. It is unique in the space & solitude it offers! Please accept our offer of 10% off any future visits for the inconveniences you experienced with plumbing issues & Mother Nature's fury!!
Again, we apologize for the plumbing inconveniences experienced while you were there. The pressure issue has been resolved (had to replace the deep well screen, have loads of pressure now, and the shower leak in the second bath has been repaired). The steps down to the lake can be a bit of a challenge, but are part of the beauty of the setting at the Farmhouse. The observation deck was added to increase the safety of watching children when enjoying the lake. So sorry for the "storm" experience - you never know what Mother Nature will offer when in the North Country! Thanks you for the review & do hope you'll visit us again soon! Rose & Jim, Mgrs.

I'm grandma & great grandma. I was able to spend 3 days with my daughter & her family on their family vacation. Everyone had a place to sleep. It is a beautiful spot & we enjoyed the decks & fire pit too. I enjoyed the nature walks and sandy beach. My grandsons said the fishing was good.
