ENCHANTING PRIVATE VILLA IN THE CHIANTI ROLLING HILLS/POOL /EXCLUSIVE ESTATE

We resided at il Poggio for a week in July 2012 and had a wonderful time. We are a family of 5 and we had more that enough space for all of us. The site is splendid, located in a vineyard in the Chianti region, close to Siena and plenty of other villages that deserve to be visited (San Gimignano, Volterra, Montepulciano, Montalcino).

After a long day of sightseeing, we appreciated the calm of the house, its pool that was refreshing in the hot weather and the lovely terrace where we could enjoy a glass or two of Chianti and a delicious meal.

The house is well equiped with everything we needed to cook nice meals and the basket of food and wine that was waiting for us at our arrival was more that welcome. People over there took very good care of us. The owners provided us with a cell phone and they, as Barbara, were always available to answer any of our questions.

We really enjoyed every aspect of our stay at il Poggio and would highly recommend it to anyome looking for a spacious, quiet and well located place to stayt in the Chianti region.

Our group of 6, two families with 2 children , had the pleasure of stay at Il Poggio the first week of November .
When choosing the villa ,we relied heavily on the reviews and owner responses posted and before booking we were immensely grateful to the owners for having answered all our questions in great detail.
It lived up to all our expectations and more. We were delighted with our holiday at il Poggio, as others have already said , the villa and the surroundings are even more beautiful than the pictures.
The views from the property are stunning, looking over the olive groves, vineyards and watching the wildlife with the beautiful changing colors of fall.We were fortunate enough to enjoy the Italian " Indian Summer " with lovely mild temperatures , 60-80 °F.
After sight seeing days in Siena, Arezzo and Florence which are all within easy reach, we loved to go back home and relax sitting in the gorgeous terrace with a glass of Chianti , gazing at the star filled sky.
There are many pleasant walks inside Villa Arceno Estate especially the one to San Gusmè and the one that leads to the scenic cypress alleys with a stop for wine tasting at the Villa Arceno Cellar.
The villa is restored in respect with traditional tuscan country style and its
environment , is very private , spacious and airy and well furnished.
We mainly used the large kitchen, well equipped with all the amenities for us to stay together and cook delicious meals with excellent local food. The kitchenette was very handy early in the morning for great Italian coffee while glancing out the window watching pheasants strolling on the lawn .
The house is kept very well and the cleanliness of a very high standard, manager Barbara, who speaks perfect English, is very friendly and helpful .
Attention to details like the more than appreciated welcome basket, the IPod docking station, the newly installed wifi system which works perfectly, many books and games , made us and our kids fully satisfied, even in a full day of rain when we stayed at home most of the time. Thanks to the ping pong and varius board games we did not get bored at all.
The memory of our Tuscan holiday will be with us and our kids for ever : the villa a perfect place which we are glad to recommend.

What a lovely villa!! Met every one of our expectations. Very private, but great location for taking day trips to see the surrounding area - Siena, Florence, Pisa, Umbria - all within easy reach. We did not find the walk to San Gusme a problem - it was nice to have two small towns within easy reach. The owners of the Bar Centrale in Castlenuovo Berardenga were very accomodating when we needed to have internet access - just order a coffee and they were fine with us sitting awhile - they have a very nice patio you can watch the townspeople.
The upstairs area was perfect for my husband and myself for the two weeks we were alone, but when our three adult children joined us for a week, the downstairs was like their own little apartment, so there was plenty of room. The house is very well appointed, clean and well maintained. We were there for three weeks, so it was nice to have the washing machine. The outside area and grounds were beautiful. The pool was nearby but who has time to sit by the pool with so much else to do!! We enjoyed drinking wine on the patio at dusk and watching the flocks of pheasants come out of the vineyards, crossing the yard to their roosting spot for the night. Barbara does a wonderful job preparing our little goodie basket on arrival - and her directions to the villa were spot-on.
There were enough lovely restaurants in the immediate area, that you did not have to go more than 10 minutes to reach. San Gusme has two which was surprising for such a small town. Try the rabbit at Porta Chianti!! Sira e Remino also was a nice casual spot for a good meal. Even little Villa Sesta has two restaurants worth visiting. Be sure to make an appointment for wine tasting at the estate vineyard - Tenuta di Arceno, and drive around the estate property - truly beautiful. Another nearby winery to stop in is Felsina, along with the many others in the area.
All in all, a great vacation spot. Roberto and Marina are truly lucky to have such a wonderful home, that they so graciously share with us!!
