Overview

Palm Island House Rental Photos and Description

House, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-5)

Coquina Cove is your very own private tropical oasis in the sun. This wonderful, very well kept, two bedroom, two bath lagoon-front home offers great Gulf and water views from every room, warm Gulf breezes and your own private dock. Decorated in a tropical island style you’ll enjoy quiet walks down the beach with hardly a person in sight!

No crowds here, just miles of unspoiled, 100% natural Florida (the way it used to be!). World renowned shelling, fantastic sunsets, bird watching galore, kayaking right out the back door, dolphins, gopher tortoise, and a lively lagoon where fish jump all day long. Don Pedro State park is a short walk down the beach. You’ll want to capture the Island’s charm by traveling via golf cart, we rarely use cars here. Golf cart rental is available.

Bring your boat or rent one for the ultimate in Florida lifestyle. The private dock will accommodate a single boat up to 22 feet. Like to fish? Fish right off the dock or try your luck surf fishing or book a charter with one of the local guides for a thrilling day of sport fishing or backwater challenges. Trout, Redfish, Snook, Tarpon and Grouper are just a few of the many species that call our waters home.

Don Pedro Island (Palm Island) is a barrier island and a stones throw from the mainland. You’ll arrive via a short car ferry ride that takes about three minutes. Our island has a terrific resort that offers a casual restaurant, ice cream/deli shop, sundries store and a pirate show for the kids. The island is almost all single family homes so you’ll quickly find it has a pristine 'non-commercial” family feel. There are no large high-rise resorts, beach bars or traffic and noise. If you’re looking for that place in the sun that you can actually hear the wind whistle through the palms - you’ve found your place.

Off island you’ll be close to restaurants, shops, golf courses and world famous Boca Grande as well as other attractions. As we like to say... civilization is close but not too close. Boca Grande offers exclusive shopping, dining and sightseeing. By boat you can reach Cayo Costa Island State Park and Cabbage Key where Jimmy Buffet was inspired to write 'Cheeseburger In Paradise.' Do it all, or do nothing at all, that’s the “island” lifestyle. It’s laid back, always casual (leave your tie at home) and Florida at its best.

Sleeps four - five comfortably. No smoking. Pets allowed with owner's permission, additional pet deposit and $50 per pet fee. Fenced area for your convenience. Open floor plan. Fully equipped kitchen. Nice screened patio that opens into the living room. Master bedroom with private bath. cable TV, wifi, hammock, hot tub and more!

Don Pedro is an island experience like no other. Come to our island and see why so many have fallen in love with this little 'slice' of paradise!

About Julie

I grew up in Florida and as a child and teenager we would always head over to the Gulf Coast beaches for our recreation and vacations. It was a lot of fun and holds a bunch of fond memories for me. Back then, the Gulf Coast was less discovered and certainly less developed. Today, it's hard to find a beach with so few people and so underdeveloped. Quite refreshing to say the least. We chose Don Pedro Island (Palm Island) for the natural beauty and 'Old Florida' feel. This chain of islands just may be the last true Florida beach you can walk down (7 miles long) and hardly see another person. We also liked that there are no beach bars and high-rise buildings. It is the best of Old Florida, natural, unspoiled and a genuine paradise.

Julie purchased this house in 2003

Why Julie chose Palm Island

We bought here for the unspoiled beauty of the island and the area in general. Englewood is a low-key Old Florida 'beach town' that reminds you of how Florida looked many years ago, without the huge high-rise condominiums and massive hotels clogging the beach. There are plenty of local 'home-grown' shops and restaurants and the fishing is some of the best in world. The beaches are fantastic and the boating is world-class. If you are looking for a great family area that is close to everything, but far away from the congestion, traffic and noise, you'd be hard pressed to find a better place. The only way to get on and off the island is by a 3 minute car ferry ride. Having no bridge to the island allows for a semi-private atmosphere and keeps beach going traffic to an absolute minimum. The island is all residential other than the resort area at the north end of Palm Island which offers a quality restaurant, ice cream/deli shoppe and sundries store. Most all of the island traffic is by golf cart.

What makes this house unique

Staying on the island is not for everyone. If you like lots of places to shop, tourist attractions, beach bars and chain restaurants, this isn't the place for you. On the other hand, if you are looking for un-crowded and un-spoiled beaches, great kayaking, fishing and swinging in a hammock under some breezy palms, this may be just the place. It's for a couple or family that wants some serious down-time ... a place to unplug and recharge your batteries and enjoy some great family time. Our house is pet-friendly with tile floors throughout, a private outdoor shower (which is great for pets!) and one of the only island homes with a tasteful fenced in yard. We always travel with our pets and we know many of you won't leave home without yours either. After all, they're part of the family. There's an entertainment area under the house with a very nice gas grill, bar area, table and chairs and a hot tub. Out back, you'll enjoy a private dock overlooking the lagoon with dock lights and water. On the property you'll see plenty of Gopher Tortoise and native birds. Our landscaping is all Florida native and offers a very private environment.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a blast staying at Coquina Cove. It was super clean, well stocked and had a great location smack dab between the Gulf of Mexico and a wide peaceful lagoon. The beach was a short walk across a sand road and we could launch the provided kayaks right out the back door! The beach was never crowded which was hard to believe -- but true. Well decorated with nice furniture, not the rental furniture you normally see. Pet friendly and super clean which can be hard to come by. It was simply wonderful and we plan to come back soon! – G&H, Tampa

Our Little Piece of Paradise

  • 5 of 5

We've stayed at Coquina Cove a few times, and as soon as we get home we pull out the calendar to figure out how quickly we can get back. Don't let the short ferry ride or proximity to mainland fool you; you truly feel like you're on a private island in the middle of the Caribbean. Even during peak "Spring Break" season, the beaches were private and still very secluded. One of the biggest highlights of staying on Don Pedro Island, is Coquina Cove itself. It's not just a fantastic vacation rental, but it truly feels like it's a home we would live in. EVERY attention to detail has been paid, and I've not found myself wanting for anything. The outdoor shower, beach supplies, hot tub, kitchen amenities, comfortable beds, FANTASTIC A/C (you'll need it in middle summer months), and most importantly the attentiveness of Julie. The golf cart rental is nearly a must, as just cruising around the island is one of our key activities. Everyone is laid back and respectful that we've come across. If you're looking for a true getaway without all of the hustle and bustle, THIS is your place. We come back recharged and refreshed and truly satisfied after another wonderful stay at Coquina Cove.

Coquina Cove is a sweet place. Julie has done a fabulous job of keeping the place well equipped, clean, and easy. We have rented houses all over the world and have seldom come across an owner so attentive. The beach is a 2 minute walk away on a sandy 'road' and is delightfully unpopulated.

Wonderful "Quick" Beach Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I truly enjoyed our 'quick' getaway to Coquina Cove. The property was charming, clean, well-maintained, and had all the extras anyone could want. AND, it is Pet Friendly!

The owner, Julie, was so very helpful in answering all our questions, and I feel like I have a new friend. She is a delight.

We had a wonderful time, and will definitely be back for another Old Florida beach getaway.

Paradise

  • 5 of 5

We really did not want to leave. The owner Julie was an absolute pleasure to deal with and so helpful with information. The house is so thoughtfully set up, we honestly felt like we were borrowing a house from a friend. We’ve never rented a vacation house so beautifully furnished, perfectly equipped, comfortable, and clean. I recommend renting the golf cart, it was treat to take a quiet ride to dinner with beautiful surroundings. The beach was so beautiful and peaceful, we saw 4 people on the beach in 5 days! Even the short path to the beach is beautiful. We saw a gopher turtle in the front yard and all kinds of birds and fish from the dock. Our little dogs were in heaven too. The small fenced yard area was perfect to have a small break from the leashes. We will be back again!! Unless we win the lotto soon, then we’ll be neighbors!

Perfect!

The house was impeccably kept and the extra amenities were very much appreciated! From the kayaks, beach toys/floats, beach towels, beach chairs, washer/dryer and so much more this was the perfect beach getaway for our family of 5 (2 adults/3 kids). Julie was a wonderful owner who quickly answered any questions that we had. I would highly recommend this property!!

Perfect Beach Location

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is very accurately described and photographed. incredibly clean and well maintained too! The rental process is easy and lots of information provided in advance. I loved being so well informed. It was wonderful to relax in the hot tub while the dogs enjoyed the yard. The beach is beautiful and unspoiled. Golf cart is a must! We had one evening and whole day of rain, and were glad to discover the cottage was stocked with a good selection of movies. You couldn't ask for a more beautiful, peaceful setting to relax and unwind. We highly recommend!
