Had a great stay!
I would absolutely recommend this rental unit and stay there again if we ever find ourselves headed back to Laguna Beach. The proximity to the beach is so wonderful... you just walk a block or so down the street, and then take the steps to Victoria Beach. It was great to be able to walk to the beach and not worry about parking, traffic, etc. We were there in the winter, but it was still a fun beach for playing in the sand, exploring tidepools, walking to a lighthouse, and more.
As previous reviews have stated, the upper and lower units are connected through outdoor stairs. However, the lot is completely fenced and we felt comfortable putting our two children to bed downstairs while the adults socialized upstairs. As the site description says, it really does work well for large groups or multiple families who want to stay together yet have a bit of privacy at the same time.
Sandy, the property manager, is very accessible and accommodating. You can count on her to address any of your questions or concerns instantly. She returned our full security deposit within days, and even took the time to mail some jewelry that one of our party had mistakenly left in a bathroom. She also purchased some board games for the unit that our family really enjoyed... when we visited the unit had cards, checkers, chess, etc.
The kitchen is small but functional, and the owners do ask that you discard any unused items before you leave. We've rented other units before where previous renters have been allowed to leave spices, condiments, etc. I understand the reluctance there, but it felt so wasteful to throw those items away upon our departure. I would recommend bringing little bags of spices if you plan to cook much. The kitchen is stocked with pots, pans, plates, utensils, etc... but anything that is disposable will need to be purchased upon your arrival.
It was nice having tile floors throughout, as it was much easier to keep clean with the sand from the beach. The downstairs shower leaked a bit, but with tile floors it was easy to mop up with a towel.
You really won't find nicer people to deal with out there - the owners are local and will really go out of their way to make your trip special. Between the customer service we received, the proximity to the beach, the easy travel from John Wayne Airport (skip the LAX congestion!), and the 3 separate bedrooms... we would absolutely rent this unit again.
