I have nothing but good things to say about this place and Amanda .it was hard for me to pick someplace on the Internet so far away with only trusting what I read, but I am so happy I picked it! It's huge clean, and beautiful. Great neighborhood. Felt very safe.locals so nice, and the beach so close and the most beautiful beach I've ever seen. Amanda is very nice and I will hope to be able to go again someday.we had our family with us for my daughters wedding and my sister and her son stayed in the downstairs unit. It was perfect! Thank you Amanda . Dianna
Lived in Hawaii for several years & our oldest son is still living in Kailua. Other son and I visited for Christmas. The first impression when we walked in was - "very Hawaiian" and very large! There was plenty of room and the location was great for us. Kailua is a very nice, non-touristy town. Short walk to beach and you can hear the ocean at night. Amanda and her family are excellent hosts - mostly leaving us to our own travels.
Two things that are a bit of a negative: There are younger children there and older guests at times, so the "limited noise after 10:00 PM rule" is necessary. So it is not for party seekers.
The other thing that was an issue is the limited parking. Someone came to pick us up the first night we were there and pulled in as we came down. Because our car was in our parking spot, our friend had to turn around in someone else's as the owner pulled in. Our first interaction lacked any "aloha" and we were pretty concerned that we didn't make the right lodging choice. After that night, though, we tried not to violate any rules and everything was perfect. The location was great, Amanda & her family were great and we loved the size and amenities of the rental. The pictures on the website do not do it justice, because it is wonderful.
Our 1st time in Oahu and we debated about where to stay - initially tried to find a reasonable price in Waikiki without luck... Kailua was our 2nd choice but am glad that's where we landed. Definitely a much, much more laid back vibe than Waikiki (think residential beach town - not yet spoiled but potential is on the rise). Experience wouldn't have been the same in a high rise condo off Ala Moana Blvd. I'd trade sounds of traffic any day to the sounds of the ocean surf and birds, but only 25 minutes away from Waikiki and conveniently close to the H3, Pali Hwy and Rt 830 -- the gateways to rest of Oahu. Served as great base from which to get to North Shore via scenic 830. 5 minute walk to the beach via pathway parallel to Pueohala St just down the street. Close proximity (4-5 minute drive or long walk) to cafes (Kalapawai Cafe - great orecchiette w/ chorizo), bakeries (Agnes Portuguese Bake Shop - great malasadas) and grocery stores (Safeway, Whole Foods). Was concerned that w/out A/C we would be uncomfortable -- but despite higher humidity due to recent tropical storm Iselle it cooled off nicely overnight with ample ceiling fans plus an extra fan that owners supplied w/out our asking. All in all a great experience for us!!
Amanda was very helpful. The rooms were clean and well maintained. A little problem with the rust on the locking sliders, as you had to work it to get the doors to lock. The view is great.
The parking is tight, but seems to work. There are dogs on the premises and they do bark when people drive up. Otherwise pretty quiet. THIS IS NOT A HOUSE. It is an apartment complex and it appears that there are several long term tenants. The only real problem we had, was that the person who slept in the back room where the kitchen is could hear the people in the other unit talking at night. If they stay up late, that could be a problem if you don't have ear plugs. However, the beds are comfortable and other than the neighbors, no really loud noises at night.
What a wonderful experience! The suites were spotless! Didn't see so much as a tiny ant the entire week which is very unusual for these parts. Will be back!
Took a 5-day girls trip to Oahu and decided to stay at Amanda's condo in Kailua. It was the perfect distance from downtown and my favorite beach- Lanikai Beach! Not only was Amanda and her son great hosts, but the condo we stayed in was so great and spacious! I actually think it's better than it was advertised. The 2 rooms were extremely spacious and clean. The beds were comfortable and then kitchen amenities were really helpful. Also, it was great that linens/towels were provided and she even had beach gear for us to use for the day. Her son was also extremely sweet and made sure we were always having a good time and had everything we needed. Their property dogs were super friendly too! "Thanks so much, Amanda!"
This suite is very centrally located--it is 20-25 minutes from Honolulu and 45 minutes from the North Shore. It is just a few minutes drive from Kailua town, and Kailua Beach is only 300 yards away. You can drive along the coast to the South and within 25 minutes get to Seal Life Park, Mokapu Beach, Hanauma Bay for snorkelling. Many of my guests have commented that they found the location perfect as it is so central to everything.
