Judy of Boston is not describing the Mansion we rented, example- thermostat in all bedrooms-FALSE, one in hall. We Rented the mansion for one week, end of Aug. 2014, for family get together. Many problems with the house were very hard to deal with and all phone #s for help went unanswered all week. Mansion is very cute and old BUT needs LOTS of work! Center of house is collapsing, floors on first and second floors are ramps. New washer & dryer (very dirty) on second floor have a 2X4 under front feet to level, shows the floor 2” out of level in the 3ft span Equates to 8” down across 12ft room and it shows it.
Electrical wiring hanging loose everywhere, romex cable on outside of walls! Plumbing leaks, hall bath upstairs leaks thru dish cabinet in kitchen. Parking for 40 cars IF we all park in the yard (there's actually a diagram for this).NO legal way down to the lake, we were chased for trespassing by resort across street.New A/C second floor not adjustable, one room 45 another 80. Pool table felt loose, bumps. I do have pic's of all this- Be careful! Btw-lots of mice in kit. Cabinets, really!Bringcontainers.
My four sisters and I hosted Thanksgiving for our immediate families: four generations ranging in age from 2 to 83. Somewhere in Time was the perfect venue and exceeded our expectations in so many ways. First, many of us arrived Wednesday amid the snowstorm and the driveway was kept plowed. Upon arrival, the grandness of the home is rivaled only by its rich history, conveyed through murals and authentic period furnishings augmented by modern comfortable furniture in key areas to sit and talk in smaller groups. Facing leather sofas around a spectacular and rugged metal and glass table before the "grand" fireplace was a personal favorite as was the comfy sectional before a state-of-the-art media center (with step-by-step instructions conveniently provided for those of us challenged by remotes. WiFi was strong, too!). The gas fireplaces--in the dining room, biliards room, and living room--were easy to use (click click) and added ambiance and warmth. Six bedrooms each with its own thermostat, three with their own baths, were beautifully appointed and made up with luxurious bedding. The opportunity to also rent the adjacent carriage house gave us plenty of room for our whole family to stay and enjoy each other's company for the holiday weekend. The homeowner was responsive, a delight to deal with, and answered dozens of questions since I had all sorts of anxieties about bringing together our large family to a home we had never visited for Thanksgiving dinner. We appreciated, too, that the kitchen was updated with new appliances and had everything we needed to prepare an elegant sit-down Thanksgiving feast for 38. I cannot say enough about how well appointed and beautiful this house and its setting are. We struggled to leave on Sunday and look forward to returning next year. Thank you, John, for the loving and thoughtful restoration of a truly magnficient and special house.
The moment I arrived at Somewhere in Time, I felt I was home. It was decorated and furnished exactly the way I would have chosen. I wanted to move in! The premises were perfect for a family gathering. Thank you John for making a place to go, that accommodates our family, comfortably.
We just spent Thanksgiving at this wonderful property. We rented the entire house with the guest house. We sat 42 people for dinner. The property was magical. felt like home as soon as walking through the door. Tastefully decorated, plenty to do of all ages. Has a wonderful open floor plan that offers 3 different seating areas with comfortable furniture. Never felt cramped or to noisey. Bedrooms were all lovely and comfortable. Was lacking nothing. The owner John was wonderful, very personable and accomadating from the first day we spoke to him. Our entire family spends every Thanksgiving together and hands down this was our best Thanksgiving to date. See you next Thanksgiving John.
We rented this property to bring our family together for the Thanksgiving holiday. We could not have asked for a more perfect place to be. The photos while stunning cannot portray how amazing this house truly is. It had everything we could possibly need or want and John (the owner) could not have been more pleasant and accommodating to deal with. The house was impeccably clean and decorated in a true Victorian manner. Each of the bedrooms had a distinctive decorating style. I kept walking through the house saying, "I can't believe that I am actually staying in a house like this!" The huge gas fireplace in the main sitting room was a cozy gathering space for our family to sit and talk or to play games. The pool table was a huge hit with all of us. The housekeeper was pleasant and very welcoming to us when we arrived. I would recommend this property to anyone. We had fun shopping in the nearby Lake George outlets and also a cute restaurant/gift shop called the Silo. Although we didn't rent this property for a wedding, the grounds are absolutely beautiful (even in late November) and cannot imagine how stunning it would be in the spring and summer months. We hope that we can come back sometime in the summer to enjoy the outdoor gardens, sitting areas and the pool. I also wanted to mention that we had a toddler with us and she had a ball toddling through the house from room to room visiting with everyone. Highly recommend! Outstanding property.
I fell in love with Somewhere In Time the first time I saw it. So much so, I never even looked at any other wedding venue locations. My wedding was everything I ever wanted, but mostly because of the intimate, beautiful, yet comfortable location. My guests fell in love too. I will rent Somewhere in Time again for our anniversary, for Christmas, ski trips. Loved it. The house has everything you need and then some.
This B&B is available for weddings and events if you book all the rooms in the mansion for that!! You may also rent the private home as well, making room for everyone to stay on site.
