smaller and not as good value as expected,

Stayed at the Carretas apartments in September of 2010 (3 single people sharing). Although nicely renovated, I would certainly not classify it as "luxury" and too expensive for what it is. The apartment is not well designed, and it appears much larger than in the photos, when in fact it is rather small. The main bedroom with the double/queen bed is a decent size, the other bedroom with the single beds is very cramped – the beds barely fit in the room and there is absolutely no room for anything else. The location is steps from the centre of the city - Puerta Del Sol, which is as central as you can get - very close to everything, but the street is very noisy. However, the bedrooms face the interior so it is not much of an issue for sleeping. The person who checked us in couldn't get away fast enough, he was very unhelpful and not friendly. When asked about how to operate the appliances and the absence of essentials such as extra toilet paper and dish soap, he remarked that it was the renter's responsibility to supply their own "basics". A “luxury” apartments should not let your worry about running our of toilet paper. Unless you have to be at the centre of everything, for the cost I would not recommend this apartment.
