This gorgeous Victorian Beach home was originally built in 1905, totally remodeled in 2003, but keeping its original charm. It is a 3 minute walk to the best beach in Santa Cruz--Twin Lakes Beach which has lifeguards and restrooms. It has over 30 stained glass windows and 3 porches. The two levels of the home are self contained--each with their own complete kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms. Perfect for large or multi families or those with kids who would enjoy the separation or privacy if so desired. It is furnished with comfortable period antiques and comfy beds. It has a beautiful formal dining room that seats 8 and an informal bar that seats 3. A 5 burner gas range and double ovens adorn the upstairs kitchen and electric stove / oven downstairs. The living room has a 50 inch plasna panasonic TV. There is wireless thru out the home and four TV's + two DVD players.

Gorgeous Victorian with 30 stained glass windows: The home sits on a corner with lots of parking available. Two cars in driveway and 4 cars on side and front of home. Each level has its own combination entrance for privacy if two or more families come to vacation. Perfect for families. Put the kids downstairs!!!. There is 4 televisions in the home, 2 on each level. There is also a Sony Play Station for the kids or young at heart. The backyard has a gas BBQ, jacuzzi and seating for 15 people. Washer and dryer also located outside. All linens are provided. Ice chests and beach chairs for your use

Sleeping accomodations: The upstairs level has 2 queen beds in each bedroom. There is also a queen sleeper sofa. Six people can be accommodated upstairs. Downstairs, there is 2 queen beds in separate rooms and two twin beds in a bedroom. There is also a roll away bed that can fit in Bedroom # 5. Comfortable mattresses. A 6th bedroom, the Harry Potter room is on the 3rd story. It is designed for kids, complete with the Harry Potter theme, two twin beds, two loveseats, TV, DVD player. It is carpet and has a large skylight and window There is also a chair that folds out into a bed perfect for ayone 5'5 and under. Due to the staircase going up, not suitable for children under 5.

Location: The home is within walking distance to 5 restaurants: The popular Crows Nest is two blocks away which is on the water and it serves lunch and dinner: Seafood, steaks, etc. . There is also 2 Mexican restaurants, a seafood restaurant, an Italian restaurant and an American Cafe which serves great breakfasts and has fantastic happy hours. These are all 2 blocks or closer to walk to. Tennis courts are 1 1/2 blocks away and the best beach in Santa Cruz is 1 1/2 blocks--Twin Lakes beach. It has lifeguards and restrooms. The world famous Boardwalk is a mile away. A quaint grocery store is down the street for any ice, groceries, cold drinks or any forgotten items. It also has great homemade sandwiches!

This home was not only beautiful and well stocked with all of the amenities, it had a fabulous location. A 3 minute stroll to the beach and lots of restaurants to walk to. The owners were helpful. Our three families had an awesome time!!

Wedding and family

A destination wedding has interesting challenges....renting the "Painted Lady" made many of these potential problems much, much easier to meet. Two families and the bride to be, (including 4 children, all under 8...) all thoroughly enjoyed the stay. 5 bedrooms, 5 baths....perfect. Beach close by...perfect, Store/deli across the street...perfect (for dad.....), location...ideal, hot tub for mom and dad in the evening...perfect. Like any vacation, there were some minor glitches but owners were quick to respond with whatever needed to happen. If you're looking for "modern" or brand new...this isn't for you but if your'e looking for convenience, great support from owners, a great family house, a unique, distinct, interesting, clean, and fun house.....this is the one. Will rent it again.

house for bridal party

We rented this home for my bridesmaids and their significant others for our summer wedding, instead of having everyone at different hotels. What a great idea! They all loved the home, it has plenty of different bedrooms so couples could get a little privacy instead of sleeping on a couch in the living room. The house was a great, fun place to have everyone together for the short weekend. The house is clean, well maintained, has plenty of rooms and bathrooms, has plenty of character and is in a great location. The owner was very easy and pleasant to deal with and everything was as advertised. I would definitely recommend this house to others. Our only regret was that we were so busy over the wedding weekend that we didn't get much time to just relax and enjoy the house. We wish we could have stayed longer to take advantage of everything this house and neighborhood offers.

The Good, the Bad, the Ugly

The good was really terrific - fantastic even. This is a really cool, funky house. Lots of great hide and seek places for the kids. Even a Harry Potter closet (walk in closet with window and twin bed) downstairs that the kids fought over. The kitchen and baths were well-stocked. I hate those houses where they give you one roll of paper towels and toilet paper and you have to scrimp - this is NOT that house. Dishwashing soap, cleaning supplies, plenty of towels, etc. It really is a short walk to the beach - I time three minutes walking by myself; it probably took twice that week with the kids. The beach was lovely - perfect sized waves for boogie boarding, nice sand and not too crowded. The jacuzzi was perfect for after beach or on cloudy days. We took lots of bike rides around the area. It's really close to a nice bike path going over to Capitola. The harbor nearby (3 blocks) has pelicans that were a major hit with the kids. The owners were very nice and gave lots of recommendations for places to eat and visit in the area. The bad was this home is on a pretty busy street corner, which could be noisy at night (this wasn't really a big deal to me, but good to know if you are a light sleeper). The ugly was there were mice in the house when we were there. The owners were very responsive and came over immediately to set traps, but given the extent of the problem and how much we paid to stay, it seems like they should have had a professional exterminator and should have given a partial refund for the inconvenience- which was considerable.

Owner's Response: We received a call from the lessee on Saturday regarding a rodent in the home. After awakening in the am, rodent droppings were found by some food left out. This was our first encounter with any rodents. We immediately called a professional exterminator. There were only 3 since we are in a small town. We reached 2, who were out of town and wouldnt be available until Monday. We never heard from the third one. Since they were unavailable for 2 days, they advised us of what they would do. We took their advice and expertise and immediately went to the home to set traps. We also looked for any openings which they might have squeezed thru. we found one and blocked it. We take great pride in this home as it was our personal residence for many years. We kept in communications with the lessee and she advised us when she would be out of the home, so we would come over during that time and check traps (so as not to disturb them). The lessee never asked for or discussed any reduction in rent. We were surprised that she thought a professional could do any better since we caught the culprits. Things do occur in nature that are out of our control, but we will take appropriate measures to solve any problems that may arise. We appreciate the positive review.

Wonderful location and comfortable house!

My family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this house - perfect location, comfortable beds and plenty of space! The beach and marina are very close by and there were plenty of parking spaces. The house itself has wonderful character - with the stained glass windows and fun floor plan. The owners were easy to contact and very friendly - gave lots of great advice for places to visit. We are hoping that we will be back soon!
