Carmel is conveniently situated on the Monterey Peninsula between San Francisco (120 miles north of Carmel) and Los Angeles (330 miles south of Carmel) along the California Central Coast. The town of Carmel has been home to many notable residents including Clint Eastwood (who served as mayor from 1986-1988), John Madden, Charles Schwab, photographer Ansel Adams, and authors Beverly Cleary, Sinclair Lewis, and Jack London.
