Unbelievably good value. Thank you Alvy!
We stayed at three properties in PR and this was by far the cheapest, yet also the one we enjoyed most. The apartment is a nice size and my kids could each have their own sofa to sleep on while we had the bedroom. The views from the balcony are amazing and the beach in front of the building is very pleasant and safe. Less than a mile drive is an even better public beach that is well worth the $4 entry fee. The Luquillo kiosks are also just up the road. Not much further from there is El Yunque, and in the other direction is Fajardo with a lot of shopping and water excursion opportunities.
As I said, we were very comfortable in the unit and Alvy is excellent to work with. We spoke several times on the phone before the rental as she wanted to be sure we knew where everything was and that our needs would be met. The apartment is not glamorous but it has everything you need to be comfortable. There are so many utensils and pots and pans in the kitchen that some of the drawers are hard to close! The TV is big, HD, plenty of channels. The building is very quiet, the neighbors we saw all looked to be retirees, they were pleasant to us as well. The area of town looks a little questionable but we never felt unsafe, and the apartment and parking lot are very secure.
Just so this review doesn't seem completely over the top in praise, I will mention three drawbacks to the unit: 1. No in-unit laundry - you need to have quarters and go to the building laundry machines. 2. If the A/C is on, the hot air blows onto the balcony, so if someone is sitting out there they might get hot. 3. We did not enjoy the pool. There was no shade at all, and the water was an odd color. After about an hour there, someone in an official-looking inspector uniform came and told everyone to get out because the water wasn't safe to swim in. All things considered these were minor problems and wouldn't keep us from staying here again.
Two tips: 1. The grocery store across the road from the apartment is not very good. If you drive about five minutes south into Fajardo, there is a much bigger and better grocery store there. 2. There are some really cool restaurants in the area. We went to El Rincon del Sabor, just a couple minutes drive, and had a wonderful and memorable meal.
Again, I don't think you can do better in the area than this unit. The combination of price, comfort, the view, and the very communicative and thoughtful Alvy make this a five-star property.
