Dear Ann and Lee,
We just arrived home from our vacation and we want to extend to you an enormous THANK YOU!!!!! We all agree that it was the best vacation we had ever had!
Your cottage was perfect in every way - roomy and spacious - a great fit for our family. We truly loved the feel of being steeped in history! The children all loved being able to choose a bedroom, and we were charmed by having a sink in each room (privacy for tooth-brushing - who ever heard of that??!!) And, of course, the porch! We ate every single meal out there! There was always someone out on that wonderful porch....reading, playing Scrabble and bridge, and watching the hummingbirds! We are really going to miss having our meals with Lake Michigan right outside our window!
We played volleyball, croquet, frisbee, cornhole (we brought a set with us on top of the van, under the canoe, which was next to the kayak and attached to the girls' bikes!!!), badminton, rode bikes on the long driveway, the girls played "house" with their animals on and next to the hammock.
The beach - goodness - what an artist God is, don't you think? Such beauty. Our first week was overcast with occasional showers. We loved it!!! We were outside every day and on the lake each day. This past week the weather was beautiful, and we did everything we could think of on the beach and in the water canoing, kayaking, collecting rocks, friends of ours who were visiting for a few days even went snorkeling! Of course we had a couple of fires in the fire ring Sat up late one night looking at stars and singing for an hour.
We attended Mass in Cedar, Suttons Bay and Peshawbestown. All different and interesting. We shopped and poked around in Sutton's Bay and Northport (loved Barb's Bakery)! Played tennis in Northport at Barron's Park (?) which was great. Found a gorgeous sandy beach up past Northport. I forget the name of the road off to the left before getting to the end of the point....I think the area is called Cat's Head Bay ? We spent a couple of hours there, walking and building sand castles and watching the sun set.
Finally, we left a small "creation" on the beach area near the campfire area. We found "true north" and built a compass rose out of beach rocks. The rocks are lying in patterns pointing to the four directions.
FYI: I tried to get as much of the towels and sheets laundered before we left this morning. I think there was only one more load to wash.
