My wife Karen & I have always planned on moving to Northern Michigan since we have been married, 34 years ago. While circumstances have kept us from moving, we decided to enjoy the beauty & peace that only Northern Michigan has to offer now. We have never looked back on that decision.

This was our first year visiting the Shelby Resorts. The cottages were great, Great fishing and boating location. We will be returning next year. Everything was very clean and well maintained. Great finding cottages with everything u need in them. (other than an electric hand mixer), needs one of those.:)
But other than that, we couldn't ask for anything better for rentals. Property managers were great and accommadating. any questions or concerns were addressed in a timely manner, always were available.

See you next year

Charming cabins, exceptional view!

Though we live nearby, we had never taken the time to visit or enjoy Hubbard Lake until our stay at the Shelby Resort. Wow! We have been missing out! We had such a wonderful, peaceful, and relaxing time there. We will, most definitely, return!
The cabins were clean and well organized. All we needed was food, linens, and paper products. Everything else was there; just like a home away from home.
Every morning we would grab our coffee and walk out the back door to the swing, or stroll down to the dock and watch the sunrise. It took our breath away! From sunruse to sunset we kept remarking to one another how blessed we were to be able to spend our time in God's great outdoors at such a beautiful location.
The lake was so clean and warm (even in September). Perfect for boating and fishing, which we did every day while we were there. Just be sure to BYOB (Bring Your Own Boat). The boat launch is just up the road!
Thank you to the owners and property managers for making our stay so enjoyable. They were very accommodating. We look forward to our return!

Enjoyed our stay at the cottage. The view was great from the inside of the cottage, as well as the outside. It was nice to have the use of a washer/dryer and a gas BBQ. The firepit on the lakeside was perfect for nightly fires. The couple who help manage the cottage were very pleasant and helpful.

Worst stay in the history of vacations!

This was by far the worst place we have ever stayed!

Do NOT stay here!!!!

To start parking is impossible and too small of an area for two resorts (ha, resorts that's not the right word at all, how about dumps). The whole driveway is angled so much we had to use our parking break. The back cottage was very old and dirty inside. As we walked in (after a long drive) we were greeted by a bathroom that had no toilet paper and carpet that looked like it was from 1960. The fold out couch had one long cushion with a 4 foot rip the whole length and the padding was coming out. The dishes that were there weren't washed, so we washed everything before eating (later deciding to buy paper plates and such to avoid the grossness).

The water at the lake is actually very clear and warm enough... too bad you have to be a trained mountain climber with a death wish to use it. Whoever wrote this place is family friendly must have stayed somewhere else. I have pictures of the so called water front on my cell phone that are nasty. The steps to the water are uneven, cracked and nearly unusable. My father fell on them carrying our 3 year old daughter and nearly killed both of them. The dock sways so much when you walk on it that you feel you can't use it at all or else you may not make it back up.

I could go on and on, but the bottom line is this is the worst place you could stay!!!! You will regret staying here as we do.
Owner's Response: This guest damaged property not only in their unit, but on their neighbor's unit as well. I took the cost of the damage out of their deposit. The husband called me on Fri, 8/9/13, screaming & swearing at me. I hung up on him, & replied via email on Mon, 8/12/13. He also threatened to post a bad review if I did not send the money that I charged him for the damage. There is nothing true in this review other than the fact that there may have not been any toilet paper. All of our guests are told when they make their reservation that the only items that they need bring are:Sheets, pillow cases, towels, & paper goods.
These guests had no complaints of any kind until they received their damage deposit back less the cost to repair the property that they damaged. We have property managers that are only 15 minutes away, & of course every guest of ours has not only the property managers number, but mine as well. neither of us had any calls during their stay.

All we can say is “people you have got to try Up To The North Resorts!” Your Hubbard Lake property was a little piece of Heaven. It is the break we “city folk” were looking for. From boating & fishing (bring your own), swimming in the sand-bottom water (right outside the door) to taking a bike ride (bring your own) or just enjoying the quite, there is something for everyone. A short drive into town & seeing the light-houses and other interesting locations was great too (loved the ice cream). The fire-pit at night was something that brought back great memories of family time. The sunset (or rise if you prefer) was beautiful from the swing in back. We did our laundry (bring a zip-lock of soap), so there was no reason to rush back home (nice bonus ? ). It sleeps six comfortably - this is the location is family friendly or a nice getaway with that someone special. And it is very affordable too! Up To The North Resorts is a MUST on our “where-to-go” Vacation list no matter what time a year it is.

Thank you for the new memories!!
