Secluded Riverfront Farm Cabin-Spectacular Views
Tired of the big city lights and traffic? Come enjoy the peace & quiet in the heart of the Smokey Mountains. The majestic, mature forest and utter serenity make this a perfect weekend get-away or week long vacation spot for those looking for true quality time. It’s perfect for those needing peaceful relaxation or the outdoor adventurer.
No matter what the occasion, the Seguin farm provides a great retreat for you and your family. Breathtaking views highlight this secluded mountainside getaway with one half mile of frontage on the French Broad River located 1.5 miles from the Appalachian Trail. The 120 year old recently renovated farm house is situated on a 39 acre working farm.
The house, although old, has been recently renovated and has all the comforts. It has air conditioning. It has a full, modern kitchen with washer/dryer, microwave, full sized stove and refrigerator with ice maker. We have an iPOD docking station and AM/FM radio as well as a phone and a TV with DVD player and VHS player. We have satelite TV provided by Direct TV and high speed internet access.
Take a step back in time and experience what life was like on a farm in the Appalachian Mountains. Relax on the rocking chairs on the porch that extends almost the entire length of the house and watch the trains go by. If you are a railroad buff then you will love this pastime. There is a working railroad track that passes through the property and several trains go by each day.
Take a walk through the hay field to the river and try a little bass fishing. Watch the farmer working the field. Launch an inner tube or raft and take a lazy float trip 4 miles to the take out at Murray Branch. Or you can just relax and read a book in a hammock along the banks of the river.
The town of Hot Springs was established in 1788. The town has had two very large hotels located on the French Broad river at the hot springs that have since burned down. This has become a destination spa for those nature enthusiasts that want to enjoy a natural setting while bathing in the mineral rich waters of a natural hot mineral spring. The Hot Springs Spa also offers a full menu of traditional spa services.
If hiking is what you are after, this is the place. The Appalachian Trail passes through town and you can take a day hike in either direction or you can head northeast and go all the way to Maine. There are many other opportunities in the area and the outfitter in town, Bluff Mountain Outfitters will be able to tell you some choices. One particular hike that we like is the hike along the Laurel River to the French Broad. It is an easy hike of about 8 miles round trip and you can walk for as little a distance as you want or you can do the entire hike.
If fishing is your favorite pastime then the choices are endless. You can fish for bass or muskie in the French Broad River. If trout is what you are after, you can try a little fly fishing in Spring Creek or the Laurel River where you will find wild and hatchery fish in abundance.
The choices for things to do are endless and whatever you have in mind for your vacation from shopping in Asheville to relaxing on a farm or hiking the Appalachian Trail you will find it here.

We love the outdoors and we are avid hikers and rock climbers. Our two sons, Anthony and Mitchell have grown up spending a part of their summers here and have a love of the outdoors as well. We hope that you will come and experience the beauty and tranquility that our little natural haven can offer.
The Owner purchased this farmhouse in 1986
I have owned this farm for 23 years. We live in Florida and we originally bought the place so that our two sons would be able to learn to love the mountains and the outdoors as we do. Our plan worked. Our oldest son, Tony is a Fire Fighter and an avid fisherman, mountain biker, hiker and outdoor enthusiast. Our younger son, Mitchell is studying agriculture at the University of Florida and he is also an avid fisherman, white water kayaker, sky diver and rock climber. We still come up and stay several times a year and the boys come up occasionally too so we have tried to make it comfortable and homey and we hope that you will enjoy it as much as we do.
The thing that I was drawn to on the farm is the natural beauty of the mountains and the river. It is the most peaceful place that I have ever been to. Our clearing along the river is like having your own park with no one else allowed in. Imagine a beautiful, cool fall day with the Pisgah National Forest in full color on the opposite side of the river while you relax in front of a camp fire and do a little fishing in the river.
Another thing that we have enjoyed immensely is the Hot Springs Spa. People have been coming here, literally, for centuries to bathe in the mineral rich waters of the springs. Another huge draw is the hiking on the Applachian Trail as well as the many other trails in the area. Since the hot springs has opened up again in 1999 the town has been able to support more restaurants and shops so there are a number of good choices. The white water rafting and kayaking choices are many and the area is less than an hours drive from Asheville.
It truly is a place where you can experience the beauty of the Smokey Mountains with all of the comforts of home.
Hi, I stayed here for my annual birthday getaway and what a treat! Very cozy home, very inspiring for my writing. I enjoyed being away from it all... with only a short drive or hike to town. Very comfortable and exactly what I was looking for! I enjoyed the train going by... only 3 times during my 2 night stay... I would have enjoyed seeing it more! The river access is a real plus. Very nice fire pit and picnic area. Very private and peaceful. I will definitely come back! The hot tubs at the Spa were so relaxing. Town very friendly. I think everyone knew it was my birthday by the time I was leaving! :0) The house is very clean and I just thought it was a blast to drive along the tracks to get there. So close...but so far. Have a great journey .... until next year! peace, Deborah :0)
The cabin is exactly as described - rustic, restored, peaceful and quiet. My daughter, her two sons and I spent a very relaxing weekend in the cabin. The boys are still talking about that trip and we plan another trip soon. The river, the picnic area, the peace and quiet are all magical! The house is comfortably furnished and we had everything we needed. The trains are wonderful - not disturbing, relaxing to sit and watch them pass or hear them in the night. We fell in love with not only this cabin but the town of Hot Springs. Small town Americana with friendly people, hikers with their dogs and beauty everywhere!
My husband and I was looking for a place that was away from it all and that's EXACTLY what we got!! We wanted river frontage we wanted to do some fishing and relaxing - got that too!!! We had dinner at the pavilion by the river and watched the life on the river go by. We utilized the fire pit and lounged on the wonderful porch. We went into town for some groceries and to have breakfast at the diner which was just a short drive. I cannot say enough good about our stay. The house was comfortable and nicely decorated. All of the luxuries were there. I want to share this place with everyone yet I want to keep it all to myself. My experience with the owner was pleasant and I appreciate the experience. We will definitely be staying here when we visit Hot Springs from now on!!! Thanks, again!
My husband and I had the opportunity to stay at this quaint farmhouse at the end of October. It was just what we had been looking for. It was quiet and secluded. It had everything we needed. We loved seeing the trains. At one point two trains were passing right in front of the house and one stopped for a while. The nice thing was that they weren't loud or disruptive to sleep. The river was beautiful. Look forward to returning in warm weather so that we can hopefully take advantage of the river. It was a very comfortable house and we enjoyed our time there. Unfortunately our trip was cut short by an emergency at home, but we will be back.
We had such a great weekend at this house. It was comfortable and clean and had everything we needed...cooking supplies, comfortable beds, lots of pillows, blankets and towels, fans. The front porch is a beautiful place to sit and watch the trains go by. Our daughters (ages 12 & 8) loved counting the cars and getting the drivers to blow the horn. We really did not hear them at night. The best part was the spot on the river. We played in the water, grilled and had an awesome campfire. We wandered in to the busy little town of Hot Springs where the Appalachian Trail runs right through. We felt like we were in the middle of nowhere, yet we were so close to music, restaurants and great little shops. The stars were amazing. We walked to the left to visit the cows and to the right to drop our tubes in and float down the river. Such fun! It was exactly what we needed. Thank you for sharing your beautiful spot with us and for making it so comfortable.
My family and I love the mountains, and on the advice of a dear friend, decided to vacation in Hot Springs this year. Outside of tremendously enjoying the quaint town of Hot Springs, our stay in this cozy farmhouse was fabulous. We had a minor issue with the phone, but the owner was immediately available and quick to ensure a timely fix for us. Our boys loved the freedom to run, climb and explore the river and mountainside. You have never experienced fireflies until you have spent a few hours on a moonless night gazing at the mountainside behind this farmhouse! This was a fantastic experience that our children haven't stopped talking about; in fact, they were planning our return trip before we left!
