Biking, hiking, canoe, kayak, boating, swimming, skiing, snowmobile, sledding, horseback riding, antique hunting, fishing and sport hunting are just a few of the great things to do in the area. We are located right on the Clyde River with 35 Acres. Willoughby Lake is minutes away as are 6 other Lakes. Burke Mountain is 20 minutes away and Jay Peak is 45 minutes away. Call or e-mail if you have specific questions.
Winter Season: Vast Trail system for Snowmobiles connects every town in the Kingdom. Gorgeous snow covered trails that give you views that the ordinary vehicle can't. Trail access is about 1 mile away. Two mountains nearby offer great alpine skiing. Burke Mt. is only about 20 minutes south and is not usually so crowded, and Jay Peak with challenging trails and so much to do at the ski area with the indoor water park and indoor skating. There is ice fishing on the over 20 lakes and ponds in the region. Snowshoeing is getting very popular also along with the ever popular cross country skiing which you can do right from the back yard.
And last but not least - Don't forget sledding. There are many a hill that invites you to scale them with a toboggan or sled to take you quicker to the bottom. Spring there is the Sugaring Season and a must attend event is usually in March the Vermont Maple Producers have their annual Open House at nearby sugar houses.
Summer: With over 20 lakes and ponds in the area you are sure to find what you enjoy if it relates to water. Willoughby Lake is just minutes away which is the deepest (and probably the coldest) Lake in Vermont. Great fishing, boating & swimming. Island Pond is another close one with a community that really welcomes you. Lake Memphremagog is about 20 miles away and it spans over 33 miles which part of that is actually in Canada. There are many hiking trails: Pisgah that overlooks Willoughby Lake. Bald Mountain which on a clear day you can climb the tower at the top and are able to see a good share of the Kingdom along with Canada, New Hampshire and Upstate New York. Biking: Kingdom Trails is one of the best mountain bike trail systems in the world: Kingdom Trails. Farm visits are also available at different times, lots of great restaurants and site seeing.
There is a large open hay field down back that borders the Clyde River with a picnic table. The field has a mown path all around it for walking, running or taking the dog for a small hike.
Reviewed May 7, 2014 NEW The house was clean, well equipped, and accommodated our group of seven (with room for more) very comfortably. I only wish we were there in the summer so we could take advantage of the beautiful rear view and the huge back deck.
This is our second stay. We're an avid winter sports family who enjoy snowmobiling, ice fishing, snowshoeing, skiing and snowboarding. The house is ideally located about halfway between Jay Peak and Burke Ski mountains. It's also very close to many lakes (Seymour, Echo, Salem, Island Pond, Willoughby, Memphremagog, etc.) We were very happy to be able to snowshoe on the property which varies in terrain. There is also a short snowmobile access trail which connects to VAST junction OS15. Thanks so much Leslie for showing us the way. The double sided fireplace was great on some of those cold mornings (many overnights were in the minus teens) We'd turn it on from time to time just to take some of the morning chill away. The primary heat source is radiant floor heat so your feet are never cold on the wood or tile floors. A wood fired outdoor furnace heats the water and circulates it so the indoor temperature can fluctuate from time to time. Overall though we were very comfortable. We took walks on our snow shoes a few times to the field down behind the house and it was a great time. It was very quiet and peaceful and we even saw some deer. Just about every morning there was a fresh coating of 1-3, sometimes even 4" of snow, not to mention the several 6-10" snowfalls we experienced. The driveway was cleared when we had heavier snowfalls. As for parking, there is plenty of room! We were able to park our trailer out behind the house down a driveway that is maintained and our vehicles and snowmobiles were parked up front. Leslie, Gail's daughter who takes care of the house and who also lives here on the lower level was absolutely wonderful. She was a fantastic neighbor! She insisted we take advantage of the large yard and fields for us and our children to play in. She was very friendly, recommended some area dining and overall was a great person to be around. Our dogs even played together a few times. On the topic of dogs, Our 8 month old boxer came down with an eye issue about the time we arrived, think it started at home though. Leslie recommended a Veterinarian in Barton, about a half hour drive away, who was excellent. Got me right in and provided a very comprehensive evaluation on our dog. About 2 weeks after the end of our stay, as promised, my security deposit was returned with a very nicely hand written note of appreciation. Gail & Leslie were fantastic and we certainly plan to return.

I met Gail back in July of 2014 and had the opportunity to tour her house. I was very impressed, brought my wife back for a tour and shortly after visiting, we booked the house for the entire month of February 2015. Even before our February stay, we were so excited to stay there, we decided to book it earlier for Thanksgiving weekend of 2014. The kitchen is fantastic and having the double ovens made cooking our Thanksgiving dinner easy. The large dining room was perfect.

What a wonderful location and a beautiful clean house! Even with the hot summer days, the evening were cool and always a breeze. Having the river down the field was great! Would love to see it in the fall! Thank you Gail for sharing it with us!
What a beautiful peaceful place to stay. It is definitely a nice country setting with gorgeous views. The owners are very helpful and accommodating to your needs. The house is more than words than say. Just take a look at the pictures and imagine it being much nicer than that even! The master suite is a dream, not to mention the kitchen! Thank you Gaston, Gail and Nick for a vacation stay that we didn't want to end!
We arrived on December 22, 2012 and to our wonderful suprise the house was much more than what you can see online. We have rented alot of properties in this area, since most of our family still lives nearby, but this one by far takes the cake. We arrived a little earlier then expected and the house was still being cleaned, but the owner was very accomadating and allowed us to unpack our car so we could continue on our day. The house was beyond anything we have rented in the Northeast Kingdom. I'm not sure where to start from as far as the inside of the house. The gourmet kitchen which was wonderfully equipped including a full size dishwasher and garbage disposal, was perfect for our family gatherings. The gas fireplace set the perfect mood for watching the snowflakes fall outside. The entire back of the house is glass doors so that the vast view of mountains can be seen from every room. There is not enough space to be able to prasie this house enough, it certainly made our stay the most enjoyable, filled with many wonderful memories to be shared throughout the years to come. The owners and their family are quite possibly the best host in the area. Anything that was needed to make our stay enjoyable was thought of and waiting for us upon arrival. We definitely have found our new home away from home when visiting the Northeast Kingdom.

My father, friends and I really enjoyed our stay here. Gail was more than accommodating to any questions before and during our stay. The house was immaculate, there was firewood, and a brand new grill waiting for us. We spent all of our time in the kitchen or on the back deck where the views at sunrise and sunset were great. There is nice access down to the Clyde River with a picnic table right on the shore. I would definitely recommend this property to anyone looking for a relaxing time in the Northeast Kingdom. Reasonable price with great amenities and a fantastic owner. I will definitely be back.
Other Activities: Snowmobile Trails
Golf: There are four golf courses in the area: Barton is very affordable, open to the public and doesn't mind if you are an amateur. Orleans has been around for many year and is well groomed and open to the public with a restaurant/bar on site for casual dining. Newport is open to the public as well with an 18 hole par 72 course. There is an excellent Restaurant on site. The views from the greens are breathtaking. Island Pond has it's own newly opened course for the golfer that just wants to have fun without all the social status and very affordable - check it out!
Ski: Ski Mountains: Jay Peak with tons of natural snow is the highest peak in the Green Mountain Range. It borders Canada and is about 30 minutes away. They have a tram to bring you to the summit for alpine skiing or for sightseeing, and it is a sight to see. Burke Mountain is the second ski area nearby, which is generally a little less crowded but beautiful just the same. Great restaurant at the base lodge!
