NEW BRAUNFELS HISTORIC DISTRICT, WALK TO COMAL RIVER, SCHLITTERBAHN, LANDA PARK

New Braunfels Bungalow Rental Photos and Description

2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, sleeps 6

This is a beautiful old Sunday House originally built in 1914 & lovingly renovated to someday be our retirement home. Since we can't retire yet we'd like to offer it to you as your home away from home in New Braunfels. House is in downtown area a couple of blocks from tubing, downtown shops & restaurants, Landa Park, Landa Golf Course, Hinman Park, Schlitterbahn (voted the best waterpark in the USA!), Prince Solms Park & the Tube Chute, the Comal River (shortest in the world) & plenty of other attractions. One of our favorite amenities is the classic front porch where you can sit for hours waving at the friendly people walking, running, tubing & biking through this quaint old neighborhood. The kitchen has been fully updated with granite counter tops & modern appliances.

Suitability:
  • children welcome
  • wheelchair inaccessible
  • non smoking only

We were visiting from Dallas and we absolutely loved the house! We were here for my best friend's bachelorette party and we had a blast! Friday we made fajitas and sat out on the awesome patio. Saturday we floated the Comal twice!! Then we came back to the house & showered and went to eat at the Gristmill. It was delicious after a long day! Then we went to the Piano Bar which was a ton of fun. Thank you Mike & Diane for your hospitality. We enjoyed the wine, cheese & crackers : ) ! Your house is beautiful & we will be sure to recommend!

THE GOOD AND THE NOT SO GOOD

  • 4 of 5
My family (husband, wife and two grown children) stayed in the house for two nights in June 2014. There are many good things about the house. It provided comfortable accomodations for our group of 4 adults. The location is great - we were able to walk to restaurants and shops in downtown New Braunfels, as well as to the Comal River for an afternoon of tubing. The kitchen was well equipped; the air conditioning worked great; and we had no problems whatsoever connecting to the internet. There were, however, some things about the house that were not so good. Neither the house nor the yard were as clean and well-maintained as we expected. The back yard in particular was weedy and overgrown and not a place where we or our dogs wanted to spend much time. Also, we decided that the neighbors on the left as you face the house either have a lot of pets or are operating a kennel. Everytime we let our dogs outside, the barking started and did not stop until we brought them in. The neighbor dogs also barked off and on all night long which didn't make for an ideal sleeping situation. We could not find any tubes at the house and ended up purchasing our own. We didn't mind doing this as we will probably use the tubes again; however, the listing should be edited so that future renters will know that they need to bring their own tubes unless they plan to use one of the tube rental companies. Despite these issues we had a very good time and really appreciated the fact that we were allowed to bring our dogs along on our trip.

Definitely recommend

  • 5 of 5
I booked this one to spend the weekend floating the river and relaxing with a few friends. The binder (as mentioned in previous comments) was comprehensive, the amenities and location were all at least as good as described, and we particularly enjoyed grilling and the 0.2 mile walk to Texas Tubes. Unlike many places that sleep 6, there's a futon set up in a back room (connected to one of the bedrooms) in addition to the sleeper sofa, which means 4 single people can all sleep with some privacy. Mike was extremely easy to work with, and I would not hesitate to recommend this house.

Owner's Response: Thanks! We figure people want to spend their time relaxing and not trying to figure out the wi-fi password & such. We put all that info in the binder and keep adding to it as people ask questions or leave suggestions. Glad you had a great time.

Great house, great location

  • 5 of 5
The description of the property was true to form which was great--right down to the friendly people in the neighborhood who we encountered while walking and jogging. This property was cozy and a good size for our group of 6. The house was clean and ready to go when we checked in, as promised. The very first night of our three night stay we were glad for the grill in the backyard and the kitchen well stocked with cookware, so we were able to stay in and make our own meals.

Two of the main things that drew us to pick New Braunfels for our trip, the Comal River and Schlitterbahn, were within easy walking distance which was great. We did use the tubes provided and managed to have a great float on the river with a fun snapshot to prove it. Mike and Diane were good about keeping up communication and anticipating questions with their guide and suggestions. We had so much fun, everyone was ready to plan our next getaway!

I know our group certainly enjoyed our time there and I would definitely recommend this property to others.

PERFECT!!!

  • 5 of 5
This perfect home made for the perfect weekend. Mike & Diane thank you so much for allowing us to bring Bo. Your home has such personality! It is within walking distance to the river and Texas Tubes picked us up & dropped us off at the front door. We grilled steaks & shrimp and visited with family. Everything was provided for us from tubes to every kitchen item! Hope to return next year!!!

Owner's Response: Great! It really makes our day to hear that our guests enjoy spending time at our home in New Braunfels as much as we do. We try hard to keep it set up with the stuff we like to have on hand when we get a chance to stay there and we're always happy to have any feedback on things we might have missed. Especially glad to hear that Bo enjoyed his stay - dogs are such wonderful loving souls - can't imagine we'll ever not have a dog in our lives. See ya'll & Bo next year!

A little piece of Heaven

  • 5 of 5
Travelled with family who were going to watch the Grand Prix in Austin but we [my husband and I] decided to find somewhere to stay in New Braunfels for the weekend.

I'm happy to say that we were thoroughly delighted with our home away from home. We wanted for nothing, every amenity was provided, including really comfy beds, and we were within walking distance of the town centre with it's pretty shops and the park.

We were provided with all the information we needed in a folder, with regard to places to eat, visit, etc., which we found very useful.

The weather was really good during our visit and we had the added bonus of seeing the Christmas lights switched on in the square, plus I managed to stock up on my quilting fabrics from Oak Leaf Quilts.

Thank you Mike and Diane for letting us use your beautiful home and I hope that you will soon be in a position to retire to it. So get your bookings in now, before it is off the market. :-)

Notes:
Yes, the house has 2 front doors but this is NOT a duplex. The traditional 'Sunday Home' built by the German immigrants had two front doors. These homes were built by farm families that just came to town for the weekends to go to church & do their shopping. They'd rent a room to someone who had a job in town who'd maintain the place during the week. We've kept this feature intact for historical purposes. There are a lot of excellent restaurants, antique shops, bars & wine bars, etc available in walking distance downtown (2 - 7 blocks). Please call or e-mail if you have questions - this is a great location near downtown with lots of local amenities available! We love New Braunfels & are happy to share our experience with newcomers. We also enjoy running, geocaching & shopping at the outlet malls in San Marcos while we're in New Braunfels.
