We moved to Washington state in 1999 from Il, Mi, and Ca., and love it. We are retired and thought renting a cottage to people from around the world would be fun, and we were right. It is rewarding to expose guest to the great northwest and help them have a vacation never to be forgotten. We look forward to your visit.
Sharon and Jerry Kania purchased this cottage in 2003
We love Port Townsend with all its festivals, Blues, Jazz, Fiddle, Film Fest, Wooden Boat, etc. We built the cottage as a place for all our family and friends to stay when they came to visit us. When it is not being used by family and friends, we decided to share it with guest that want the best possible home away from home.
A comfortable home with all the amenities and entertainment so close by. You can walk out the front door and two blocks away you can stroll the beach or hike the many trails at Fort Worden. Enjoy tennis courts, nite lighted, launch your own or rent boats or just sit and admire all the beauty of the Olympic Peninsula.
What a find! Bird Nest is a lovely place, spotless, beautifully decorated, and full of luxurious touches to make a stay comfortable. We spent the first 30 minutes exclaiming over things: the beautiful view, the wonderful kitchen, the fresh flowers, the luxurious bed, the luxurious bath and shower, etc. The place is sited for complete privacy.
It's especially nice for a family with disparate tastes: lots of nearby hikes, great shopping close by, fresh local food in bakeries, farmers markets and restaurants, and all the comforts of home, including wifi and cable for our teenager. I can't imagine anyone who would not be delighted with their experience here--and the rates are very reasonable too.
The hosts are extremely gracious but also very respectful of privacy--you can have as much or as little company as you like. All in all, the best place we've stayed in a long long time.
We recently spent three months at the cabin and loved the location near Fort Worden. Gary built a Redfish kayak and attended an ongoing evening boatbuilding workshop at the new Northwest Maritime Center twice weekly. We enjoyed walking, trying out the many interesting restaurants in the area, exploring and learning to geocache, taking the ferries to Whidbey Island and to Edmonds, and seeing movies at The Rose Theater and Uptowne Theater. Owners Jerry and Sharon make every effort to ensure that you have what you need for a great stay. We would highly recommend this property.
Port Townsend has so much to offer........ The ambiance is awesome......... The Birdnest Cottage is a true delight with ALL amenities and comforts of home. The ocean view, the walk on the beach, the back-yard herb garden, rasberries, fresh flowers, the passing deer, the quaint downtown district with its specialty pubs and restaurants, even a playhouse theatre! The HOSPITALITY of the proprietors. One would like to ask
"WHEN CAN I MOVE IN??"
It is everything the ad claims and more. They had a better furnished kitchen than I do at home! Deer eat in the yard on a daily basis and you can sit on the porch and watch the ocean. I felt like I was staying at a mini version of the Ritz Carlton, can't wait to come back. There is always something going on in that town. You never get bored!
