Perfect for skiing (just 20 minutes away), unsurpassed views, honeymoon, anniversary or weddings. Very romantic yet unlimited activities: hiking, biking, Red Rocks concerts, 4 wheeling, cross country skiing, snow shoeing, exploring Saint Mary’s Glazier or just reading a book if you can stop looking at the unbelivable views. This green home is located only 4 miles from interstate 70 and Idaho Springs or Central City on six acres of mountain paradise. Spectacular views of the continental divide and the 14,000 foot peaks viewed through the extensive south facing windows. Gambling is just a few minutes away in the city of Black hawk. Designed in coordination with engineers at National Renewable Energy Laboratories with construction of this very green home completed in 2009. The 2200sf luxurious off grid home has a zero carbon footprint without compromising comfort.

Remote location: Home is located three miles off Fall River (blacktop road) and is at 9600 feet in elevation. The last mile is not a county maintained road. Four wheel drive is strongly recommended during winter months.

About Mike Sowder

Diane is a native of Evergeen Colorado and Mike is from Kentucky. Mike moved here in 1983 fresh out of college and fell in love with Diane and the mountains. We fufilled our dream of building a carbon net zero (green) mountain home in 2009. Mike is a former employee of National Renewable Energy Laboratory.

Beautiful, Peaceful Mountain Home

What a great house. Stunningly beautiful. Such Peaceful surroundings. Great Mountain Views and centrally located to many attractions. Mt Evans, Red Rocks Amphitheater, Loveland Pass, Guanella Pass, many hiking trails, outlet shopping, many mining towns to explore. The best 2 weeks ever. Relax and unwind in this amazing green mountain home. I can't wait to go back. Two weeks wasn't enough time to do all there is to do. Such a beautiful area.
The owners are super nice people. Really want you to have a great time. Answer any questions you may have.
There's a hummingbird who would come and visit us each morning as we ate our breakfast outside. Quite a special moment.

What a spectacular setting! Owners met us at the bottom of the mountain and took us up to their home. They provided an excellent tour of the property and made sure that we had everything we needed. Perfect place to stay for our family of 5. Beautiful views, perfect seclusion and the house had everything we needed and wanted. Couldn't ask for anything better!!

What a wonderful home this is. Views, fire pit, kitchen is heaven and open layout so you can visit, cook, play, and enjoy outside as well as inside. You can feel the "welcome" the minute you walk in, Kids went hiking, and I took grand kids to the park in Idaho Springs and returned to have fun around the fire pit and eat dinner and smores! Beautiful soaking tub, bedrooms are private and quite. A beautiful place for special times.

Amazing!

This was our first time visiting the beautiful state of CO and renting this house made the trip that much better. It had everything we needed, and if we needed something the owner was great to deal with. The house is beautiful and you won't want to leave! The view is amazing, the pictures truly don't do it justice. We were busy everyday, there is so much to do in the area. We were out there for a mountain biking vacation, but also spent a day horseback riding and hiking up to St. Mary's Glacier. We would highly recommend the hike, it was beautiful at the top! We would certainly come back. However, we would know in the future to bring an all-wheel drive vehicle. The road up the mountain to the house can take it's toll on an unsuspecting mini-van.

Thanks for making our first trip to CO, unforgettable!

If you like the outdoors,the mountain,adventure,and the state of Colorado, this is the perfect vacation home. It offers all that is needed to enjoy sking,hiking,fly fishing,and wildlife viewing just to name a few.We found this home to be perfect in every way,beautiful,located in the mountain surrounded by pine and aspen trees,but close enough to town for dining and shopping. It comes highly recommended.
