BEAUTIFUL LACKAWAXEN RIVER HOME - FISHING WITH VIEWS AND HOT TUB

I wanted to send you a short note to thank you and your wife for allowing us to spend a great holiday weekend in your home. We had great weather, plenty of food, fun, and beverage. The home and property were exactly what we hoping to find , spacious, quiet, and private. Needless to say, we all enjoyed our stay tremendously. Thank you both again... maybe we can do it again next year ?

Our 3 generation family of 8 rented this house for a week this summer based on a number of very positive reviews. Unfortunately, I did not feel quite as positive as other renters – perhaps we are more fussy.
The pros: lovely location across a road from the river; wonderful great room with floor to ceiling windows overlooking the front yard; large dining table to comfortably fit all of us; nice hot tub to enjoy at the end of the day; tubes to use for river floats.
The cons: most notably the river access. I tried to get a clear picture from Michael about this ahead of time and perhaps I misunderstood, however…..to get to the river required a scramble down a steep and often slippery/muddy trail. It was a problem until we installed our own rope from the guardrail at the road to assist young and old alike to get down the trail and pull ourselves up again without falling. (We are NOT feeble or out of shape!). Once down to the river there was nowhere the whole gang could sit or even stand to ‘hang out’ as a group. We had to stand in the river itself because there was literally no bank and any big rocks were under water all day. Totally inconvenient for family time and, in fact, we never brought the littlest one down because it seemed too risky for an adult to carry him in one arm while attempting to slip down the trail grasping at the rope. I understand the owner has installed stairs since our visit so that might alleviate problems for future guests.
The other con was that the house had some minor imperfections that we all felt should have been addressed before we arrived - nothing that warranted a phone call to the owner to 'fix',
just a general lack of attention to detail in the care and maintenance of the property. We have rented a substantial number of homes from VRBO and have never given a less than stellar review. Knowing how folks rely on these reviews makes me want to be honest about our experience.

We had a long "boys" weekend stay for 8 people (four cars - parking was not a problem) for fishing, golfing, rafting, poker and hanging out. The central living area of the house comfortably accomodated all 8 of us for dining and the screened in back porch/sun room was perfect for our card game. The house has an easy laid back feel to it. There is a large upstairs area with a game room (pool, ping pong, board games, video games) and big screen TV. Most of our folks slept up here, so at night, the main living area was quiet. When it wasn't, the upstairs folks were not bothered by the noise. Parking was easy and accomodating.

The river was teaming with fish at dusk and the fly fishing was great. After a few hours in the river, the hot tub in the backyard was a great place to hang out. We spent a few hours riding the river on inner tubes (owner had four of these available for our use) disembarking right in front of the house on the embankment. We were accompanied in our float by a large eagle that was soaring up and down the river. He eventually landed on a tree close by and we were able to get some great photo's.

The yard is huge (both front and back) and was well kept, with a large stone fireplace in back that was perfect for a late fire and cigar smoking. We saw rabbits, some deer and lots of fireflys.

Although the photo's in the ad show a road out front, you barely notice it's there. We spent the mornings hanging out in the living room, drinking coffee and checking out the view of the river. Very peaceful.

Ultimately, we were close to anything we needed, but felt miles away from everything.
