Jamestown-Williamsburg Area, Surry Va. A unique cozy Beach Cottage. Awaken to the sun rising over Jamestown Island--the birth of a nation. Sip coffee and walk the sandy beach. Enjoy the panoramic expanse of the James River. Retrace Pocahontas’s travel to Jamestown Island now enjoyed on a 20-minute ferry crossing with your car. Arrange a romantic dinner at the river prepared by a local chef or order a massage by a professional masseuse…just some of the possible pleasures at the 'Rivah' Cottage. Jamestown (3/4 miles), Colonial Williamsburg (5 mi), and Yorktown offer multiple days of enjoyment. In Surry, Smith’s Fort (2 mi), Bacon’s Castle, and the owner’s favorite, the beautiful 265-acre Chippokes State Park (a Plantation Home and working Farm) on the James River not to be missed. Shopping delights, restaurants and golf courses are advertised in a book full of maps and experiences to help you plan your day…or not! Beach chairs, novels or yoga make relaxing alternatives.

Option #1: A local Chef, Jane, offers an array of sumptuous menus (emailed upon request). Services range from Breakfast-in-Bed, picnics to go, meals dropped off or cooked on site. Jane worked for many years for Fetzer Vineyards in California before opening her very own 'Dish Cafe and Wine Shop'. Since moving to Surry six years ago, she has worked at area restaurants in Williamsburg and for caterers providing meals for special events. Consider treating yourself to one of her many selections or custom order your own menu.

Option #2: Enjoy an afternoon being pampered and order a massage in the privacy of the cottage for $70/hr. Contact the Owner for arrangements.

Option #3: Enjoy a motorboat ride down the James River ending with a meal at a river-marina cafe. Also, the State Park near the Cottage offers morning and evening canoeing, fishing providing bait and rods, fossil walks hunting for sharks' teeth, whale bone and the state fossil, Chesapecten Jeffersonian. There is also a guided River House tour by candlelight.

Wonderful

We spent a fantastic week at the cottage. The photos do not do it justice. We have been holidaying in the USA for the last 12 years and this is by far the nicest home we have ever stayedin. Thank you Carol and John.

It is spotlessly clean and the decor is like out of a magazine. The little extra touches provided by Carol are really welcome, especially the welcome sign outside the door and the bottle of champagne and chocolates that await your entrance into the kitchen.

The views from the cottage are great and we didn't even have to get out of bed to watch the sunrise over the river, just lift our heads off the pillows. It was also nice having our own beach at the bottom of the garden.

We ate out a couple of times and also had BBQ's - you don't get the same views in a restaurant as you do from Carol's dining room.

We really enjoyed catching the ferry over to Jamestown - a very pleasant way to travel.

Would most definitely recommend this to friends and if we ever come back to Virginia would hopefully be able to stay at the cottage again.

WHAT a beautiful place!

My daughter and I needed to get away a few days to refresh as she is an RN student so we decided to do a 'stay-cation' and just travel a short distance so we could spend our limited time relaxing. We discovered this GEM on the internet and decided to take a chance. What a NICE time we had! Not only was it close but it seemed like we were out in the middle of nowhere, yet we were less than 30 miles from home. The natural beauty of this place was breathtaking! It was spotless in every way and well cared for. Everything you can think of was included, except food, and even a few things we didn't think of were there. We lounged around watching the moods of the river change hourly. We observed eagles and hawks soaring above us. We watched butterflies frolick around the bushes. We slept like babies in the quiet, secludedness of the surroundings. Our days were spent in utter restfulness and peace. The welcoming champagne and chocolates made this a very special time for us both. The owners, John and Carol, have gone FAR out of their way to make this river cottage a veritable "dream come true" fairyland! Thank you so much for such a special stay.

We were able to stay for 5 nights in this delightful location in July. The house was immaculate, the kitchen well furnished (I love to cook), the washer/dryer was a great addition (no clothes to wash when we got home), the view was amazing, and the beach was perfect.

It was very HOT the week we were there - but there must have been a 10 degree difference between the yard and the beach. The provided beach chairs were very comfortable and made for great river front reading.

It does what everybody says it does.

What a wonderful place. The bungalow is in the most idyllic location,it is so stress free all you want to do is enjoy the scenery and wildlife.
The description of this bungalow is accurate as are the photos, everything you will ever need is provided by the owners Carol & John.
This was the best week we have spent in the USA, Virginia is a beutiful state and would advise everyone to visit.
Can't say enough about this property and the owners (only problem would be that it becomes to popular and we may not be able to go again)
