'The place is lovely, obviously the nicest cottage on the beach, thanks Tim & Cathleen', Jane & Aldo.
Blue Heron Cottages have been described as adorable, charming and nostalgic.
Originally built in the 1940's we restored our cottage #6 to create an oasis for your vacation, nestled on the beach in the classic beach town of Indian Rocks. Just recently we have replaced the kitchen and added granite counters, a full sized refrigerator and a new range, painted the interior, added new furnishings and of course we renew all our linens regularly. We also have added a HD 32' TV and of course we have wifi for your pleasure
Guests return year after year to enjoy the serenity, the sun and the sand and most love to be away from the surrounding more commercialized beach vacation destinations.
Our cottage has 2 bedrooms consisting of a queen bed and 2 single beds, sleeping up to 4 people and we maintain it lovingly.
The kitchen has all one needs to prepare a feast however; we have some of the finest award winning restaurants on the Gulf Coast, including Guppy's, Salt Rock Grill, Keegan's, Crabby Bill's, The Pub and Villa Gallace. From family dining to seafood dining to casual sand in your shoes dining, we have it all within walking distance.
The grounds of the Cottage are impeccable and just a few paces along the shell path takes you to the heated pool with endless views of the Gulf of Mexico. Listen to the waves, the call of the gulls and marvel at the site of Dolphins playing and Pelicans diving for fish.
Indian Rocks Beach is just south of Clearwater Beach for those who want more activities and we are only 40 mins to Tampa Airport and short hops to many golf courses. Theme parks are all within 45 mins to 1 1/2 hours drive.
Founded in the early 1800's Indian Rocks Beach and developed mainly since the 1940's, Indian Rocks Beach is a thriving community that has maintained most of its original character, and supports a lively mixture of recreational activities. There are many annual events such as the popular Arts and Crafts Festival every November and April. and the Holiday Boat Parade where lighted and festively decorated boats will cruise down the Intracoastal Waterway.
Indian Rocks Beach has many parks and Kolb park is one of three Pinellas County parks to open a “skate park” which is located across the street from City Hall. Besides the skate park, there are other amenities such as tennis courts, a playground, and baseball field for others to enjoy. We also have a Nature Preserve Park with a winding boardwalk that will take you on a tour of some of the most beautiful natural settings along the Intracoastal Waterway.

Cathleen is a Florida native and Tim is English. We have been involved in the community of Indian Rocks Beach for over 30 years
Cathleen and Tim Shears purchased this cottage in 1996
It is our home away from home; we only live 5 minutes away.
Cute, clean and WE look after our cottage. NEW KITCHEN, new furniture, new fridge, new range, new tv this year, 2014, and we pressure wash all the tile regularly to insure cleanliness.
I just wanted to let you know that we were delighted with the cottage. Frank loved it too. The saddest part was having to leave and the vacation-honeymoon was over. But I have a feeling we will be back. We had beautiful weather. It wasn't too hot and no rain. The sunsets were absolutely beautiful. Thanks so much.
We love our vacations down to Florida and this area is one of our favourites. I was impressed with the pictures on vrbo last summer when I first contacted Cathleen. The cottage is absolutely true to the pictures. Quaint, modern, beachy and clean! We could see that Cathleen and Tim take pride in their cottage and work hard to keep it looking A+. This was not lost on us at all. My 6 and 10 year old daughters were in love with their cozy room with the smaller television. The living area has leather couch and chair with a big screen t.v. The kitchen looks brand new and spotless. The cottage has everything one would need for their stay. Loved the shelled lane leading to the pool and past that, the ocean. Less than a minutes walk from cottage to ocean. Pool is warm and plenty big and again, clean. This is really important to me. People in neighbouring cottages are friendly and polite. Lovely to meet and share a quick chat. Indian Rocks Beach is peaceful with plenty of things nearby to visit. 10 minutes to Winter and Hope at The Clearwater Aquarium. Our drive from Disney World was about an hour and a half. 15 minutes to Pass-A-Grille in St. Pete's Beach.....and on and on. Great places along Gulf Blvd. to have a nice dinner and drink on the water. ...Or let the hours disappear on the beach and grill back at the cottage! Can't go wrong here and can't beat that sunset. A great vacation! Thanks to Cathleen and Tim!
We have been regular visitors to Indian Rocks Beach since 1998 and considered it our beautiful secret since all of our friends were unaware of this lovely little hamlet on the Gulf coast. The cottage we leased for many years was sold and no longer available for rental so we looked in the immediate vicinity for comparable accommodations. We could not have been more please with what we experienced at Blue Heron #6. It is immaculate, comfortable and a mere fifty steps from the fabulous Gulf of Mexico. We will be returning next year...in fact we will be returning more than once per year contingent upon its availability. Thank you Cathleen and Tim!
Once again our annual trip to your cottage was FABULOUS. The weather was PERFECT and the ambiance was great! The girls and I enjoyed our stay immensely! We already cannot wait until returning next year!
We just finished a fantastic week at the beach. The owner makes it so easy to have a carefree and relaxing experience. With the addition of the full-sized refrigerator, one trip to the market was all it took for our F&B needs. As always there were beach chairs, an umbrella, and beach towels available for our use. The cottage is so inviting and always so clean, you feel right at home when you walk in the door. There is a wide variety of restaurants in the area, several that you can walk to. We especially enjoy going for ice cream and watching the sunset each evening. The time passed so quickly, but we're already looking forward to another trip in 2015.
My family and I stayed here a second time this last October. Our first visit was last year, same month. Feel free to check out my first review. We are a family of 4 (with two children 12 & 7), and stayed in cottage #6 for 3 weeks from the end of September until Mid-October. The owners of the cottage were easy to deal with & very friendly. They promptly returned my emails during our initial correspondence, as well as our deposit after our trip was finished. There is a caretaker we could contact if we needed anything while staying at the cottage, but we've never had to reach out to her. The cottage was clean and smelled fresh.
There are 2 bedrooms. One has a queen sized bed and the other has two twins. There is ample closet and drawer space for all of us. The mattresses are clean and comfortable, the pillows were a little less so this time around, but that didn't hinder our terrific experience. The kitchen is well supplied with utensils, pots, pans etc. The cottage is very clean, very comfortable & tastefully decorated. There are two decks with chairs and tables to enjoy the night sky, sound of the surf, and terrific florida weather. There is a grill, a stand outside for your wet bathing suits, a hose with shower to wash off the beach sand, and plenty of beach gear in the shed behind the cottage, including chairs, umbrellas, pails, shovels, nets and water noodles. The pool is clean, fun and perfect for families.
The beach is a short stroll down the shell lined path, just over the private sand dune. The ice in your drink won't even have a chance to melt by the time you get there. The beach is clean, the fine white sand is soft under your toes and there's enough space to stretch and take in the view. We had many days where all we did was play in the surf, make sand castles, and take naps on the beach. Other days we hung out at the pool, and sometimes we did both. Long walks along the beach was one of our favorite family activities. Renting bikes is also an option. Stopping at the ice cream shops and cafes along the way is a must. Sea shells are plentiful.
The cottages are easy to get to from Tampa (45 minutes from the airport), and conveniently located to great restaurants and fun things to do along the gulf. We did 3 day trips into Disney, which is only 90 minutes away.
We're a gluten free/dairy free family and installed the app "Find Me Gluten Free" on our phones. There are an outstanding number of restaurants in the area that we could enjoy, as well as
We enjoyed our stay here very much. The cottage was very nice, and had plenty of room. The beach was just steps away. It was nice and quiet at this location. It was within walking distance of many places and there are trolley stops very close. The only disappointment was that there was only a mini fridge in the cottage. I had expected a full size fridge. Other than than, it was great.
