You are alone to enjoy this spacious apartment of 190 m2 (2000 square feet) which occupies the two top floors of a canal house. The Vondelpark, Van Gogh and Rijks Museums are also easily reached on foot.

A diamond merchant constructed the building in 1900 and it is called a “royal apartment” due to the fact that it has extra high ceilings and wider rooms. Orientated on an east/west axis with large windows spanning the width of every room, it is a light and airy apartment, which is unusual for Amsterdam.

The central location gives access excellent public transport, parking and many local cafes, bars, restaurants and shops.

The apartment has a private entrance and is situated on the 3’rd and 4’th floor of a canal house. The apartment is not suitable for people with disabilities as there is no elevator.

There is contemporary stand lamp lighting throughout the apartment.

The first floor of the house has a spacious living room with high ceilings that runs the length of the building. At the front there is a canal view and balcony. The living room has a large dining table comfortably sits 8 people. A top of range 46' Samsung TV is connected to an audiophile level Marantz AVR amplifier & UK Sky satellite (Movie channels, BBC1-4, ITV1-4, Channel4-5 etc). The AVR is equipped with airplay and can stream audio from any apple device anywhere in the apartment (IPhone/IPad/IPod/Macbook etc) and it has a USB input for other audio devices. If you have a hard disk with movies you can connect it to either the TV or AVR receiver. There is also a region free DVD player.

On this floor there is a toilet (1/2 bath), a fully equipped kitchen and utility room with a microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and dryer. In the kitchen for your convenience and pleasure there is a Philips Senseo coffee machine with a supply of coffee pods and a latte/cappuccino milk heater and frother.

On the second level there are 3 bedrooms that feature architect designed & hand crafted furniture. The master bedroom is equipped with a king sized bed & Marantz AirPlay equipped amplifier. The smaller bedroom and the second has a double bed and wash basin. There is a large bedroom with a canal view balcony; it has twin beds that can be combined into a comfortable double. There is also Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelin music system.

The large modern bathroom has a deep vintage bath, separate shower, toilet and underfloor heating. On this floor there is also a second separate toilet (1/2 bath) with a wash basin. Towels and bed linen are provided. A crib/cot can be supplied on request.

On the roof is a 60m2 terrace with a garden table, benches and gas barbecue grill. The quiet terrace gets sun all day long and has incredible 360° views of the city. From here you can look out over all of Amsterdam.

All the main rooms of the house feature hardwood flooring. While all the rooms are non-smoking, smoking is allowed on the balconies and roof terrace.

The standard check in time is after 4PM, though it should be possible to drop your baggage at the apartment if you need to. Check out time is before 10AM. If there is no other booking on the day of your arrival or departure we can arrange an early check-in or late checkout on request.

Guestbook comments from the owner
I would definately recommend this apartment to anyone travelling to amsterdam. Our party of five found the place ideal for our extended weekend. Communication with the owner was quick and easy. The location was ideal, just outside the canal ring but within walking distance of Leidesplien, Anne Frank's house and Dam Square. It was very easy to locate and well serviced by trams. There is a supermarket/off-licence on the corner that stays opens late. The rooms in the aprtment were bigger than they appeared on the website and the place was in immaculate condition, even though there were other guests that checked out earlier that day. We were met there by a friend of the owner. She was very pleasant and spent some time showing us around the rooms, what was where and how to use the appliances etc. She even was kind enough to make sure that there was some milk in the fridge so that we could have a cup of coffee when we arrived. A nice touch! Our flight home was late in the afternoon. Thre was no problem making arrangements for a later checkout.

The stairs are a bit steep but that is to be expected. The views from the apartment are nice. On my next visit to amsterdam (with my family) I will definately try to book this apartment.

We love this area of Amsterdam & bought here before it became the new hip area of the city.. Its central for everything & has great shops near by and you don't need to bicycle or tram - you can just walk everywhere.

We have a child and there are many play areas and parks within minutes of the apartment.

Despite being over a century old this apartment feels truly modern as we have completed two major renovations in the past decade. It is the perfect place to stay while you explore our beautiful city.

ABSOLUTELY SPECTACULAR!!! BEST PLACE IN ALL OF AMSTERDAM.

  • 5 of 5
This was our 11th trip to Amsterdam staying in hotels, apartments, houseboats and castles, but this was by far the best place ever!

Dealing with the owner Feargal was a complete joy and although he could not be there in person to meet us, his associate Lena addressed all of our needs on both our arrival and departure, including calling us a taxi to the airport.

I can only echo the comments already stated but from my personal notes;

36 steep steps up to the front door! By the time I got both suitcases up there I thought I was going to die! You then walk into a foyer that leads to a restroom with toilet and sink to the left and the main house to the right. There is a door that leads into the large living and dining room along with a small balcony and the kitchen with washroom towards the back. Here you will find a sink, stove, fridge, freezer, microwave, dishwasher and washer/dryer. There is a TV, DVD player and stereo system in the living room along with a nice comfy sectional leather sofa. Going back through the door into the foyer leads to a staircase (17 steps) that takes you up to the bedrooms. To the right are two bedrooms, one with a sink, the other with a balcony much like that on the lower level while straight ahead is the master bedroom followed by the master bathroom which is equipped with a sink, toilet, stall shower and claw-foot bathtub. Just outside the door is another door which houses another toilet and sink. Behind one final door is yet another staircase that takes you up to the roof garden which is huge and I'm sure is quite nice but I'm not going back up there!!! The staircase is very rickety and Lena told us only one person can go up at once! Still, when you get up there it does offer nice views of the City, and it has a BBQ grill. Good luck getting your food from the kitchen up there though!

That was from my notes during our initial walk-through of the apartment.

All I can say we enjoyed the next ten nights very much indeed from the excellent location to the stunning canal view to the peaceful quiet at night. Everything seemed to be perfectly in place save for maybe a TV in one of the upstairs bedrooms, especially if you're not traveling alone which thankfully we were because as the person before me stated, there is only one bathroom with bathing facilities (claw foot tub and separate shower - very nice!) which could get a bit cramped I suppose after a few nights.

I would NOT hesitate to rent this place again if we ever return!!!

WONDERFUL TIME IN AMSTERDAM

  • 5 of 5
There are more bathrooms than indicated. There is the one modern, huge bathroom with separate tub and shower, but then there is another bathroom with a sink and antique toilet on the floor with the 3 bedrooms. There is a sink in the double bed room. There is another bathroom with a sink and antique toilet on the main floor. There are huge closets in the twin bedroom and master bedroom. These rooms are very large. We walked everywhere or caught trams from the corner.. There are grocery stores and wonderful restaurants very close. We recommend Sara's Pancake House, Bistro 't Stuivertje, Tin Pan Alley, and Mauder's. The owner was quick to reply by email to any questions and we had no trouble with check in or check out.

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION, A HOME AWAY FROM HOME… PERFECT!

  • 5 of 5
My family of 5 found this apartment after another Amsterdam rental had taken a turn for the worse. Because of the earlier experience I was a bit apprehensive about trying again to rent an apartment in this beautiful city. The owners were quick to put us all at ease, going out of their way to make our stay amazing. They were waiting at the apartment to greet us when we arrived after an early landing from the USA and conversed with our taxi driver when he tried to charge us 25,00€ more than he should have for the short drive from the airport (We paid 30,00€ rather than the 55,00€ he initially requested.). They showed us around the apartment and reviewed the operation of the various appliances, and even presented us with fresh hot cappuccinos (a real treat). Before departing they gave us maps and shared information on their favorite restaurants and places to visit. The apartment was very clean (shoes were left at the door as we do at home) and nicely furnished. The rooftop deck was an amazing place to enjoy a meal and watch the sunset. The kitchen was well furnished and the laundry was easy to maneuver with the directions provided.

During an evening out we ran into them unexpectedly and they were quick to introduce us to their friends and again go out of their way to make us feel welcome.

I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to friends traveling abroad.

PERFECTION IN AMSTERDAM

  • 5 of 5
After much research, we decided to book the Royal Canal apartment for two weeks this past July. I could never have anticipated what a great choice this was, the apartment far exceeded any expectations that I had. It is sunny, roomy and perfectly located in a quiet, residential area yet within walking distance to most attractions. It looks onto a lovely canal with nesting ducks and koets. It's also beautifully decorated and the beds are very comfortable. The roof terrace offers breathtaking views of the city, especially of the Westertoren.
Luckily, we had gorgeous, sunny weather for most of our stay and enjoyed taking day trips to other towns in Holland. The bus stop is about a block away, very convenient.
On the corner is a lovely upscale food market that also sells wine and liquor. The Albert Heijn is around the corner.
There are also many good restaurants in the area, our favorite was De Reiger in Niewe Leliestraat.
We very much enjoyed exploring Amsterdam, it's such an incredibly charming and friendly city that is easily navigable on foot or by tram. The apartment was a perfect place to end the day, to have a drink on the roof or to lounge on the comfy modular sofa which is big enough for a family.
I would caution anyone who has a problem navigating stairways against renting any apartment in Amsterdam, unless it is on the ground floor. Dutch stairs are notoriously steep and narrow and may constitute a problem for those with any disabilities. With that said, this and the number of bicycle riders in the city (there's delightfully little automobile traffic!) is probably why Amsterdammers are so fit.
In closing, I would not hesitate to recommend this lovely apartment to anyone, my teenage sons have said that this was their best vacation ever and I have to agree.

WARM WELCOME, EXCELLENT LOCATION, BEAUTIFUL HOME!

  • 5 of 5
I spent three nights with three other friends at this house in Amsterdam, and I wish we could have stayed for another week or more!! The large home is in a perfect location within walking distance of the center of town, and boasts large rooms, LOTS of character, and all the amentities you could ever ask for. In addition, the owner and all contacts were incredibly friendly and attentive! We are already talking about when we can plan our next trip! A real dream come true in beautiful Amsterdam!!

DUTCH TREAT!

  • 5 of 5
We stayed at the Royal Amsterdam Apartment with 6 people and LOVED it!

The apartment is comfortably furnished, beautifully decorated, and includes a well-equiped kitchen along with Washer/Dryer and Dishwasher. There is 1 "full" and 1 "half" bathroom on the bedroom floor, and 1 "half" bath on the main floor so a large group is easily accomodated. This is an upstairs apartment, but once we had our bags up the climb was nothing compared to the miles that we enjoyed perusing the city.

The apartment is conveniently located with shops, restaurants, and stores within a couple of blocks. We took a single tram from the Central Station to within 3 blocks of the apartment. We found that just about everything that we wanted to see could be reached with a tram-ride and a short walk. The museums are nearby, the "9 Streets" (shopping) is adjacent, and the canals are right across the street.

The owners are very friendly and professional. We enjoyed working with them and appreciated how responsive and available they were to help - not just to book the apartment, but also to make sure that we were able to get the most out of the apartment and the neighborhood.

We highly recommend this apartment and hope that it's available the next time we travel to Amsterdam!
